NBC is the second network to cancel a rookie show from the fall broadcast season as Animal Practice is exiting off the network’s schedule and is being replaced with the second season of Whitney beginning November 14. Until this date, Animal Practice will continue to air in the Wednesday 8p time slot. For its most recent airing, Animal Practice delivered a 1.0 rating among A18-49. CBS was the first network to cancel a new show, pulling the drama Made in Jersey.
Tonight, HGTV debuts new series Home Strange Home and the network will continue production on the series for a second season with eight all-new one-hour episodes. HGTV also renewed You Live in What? and Extreme Homes for a second and third seasons respectively with eight one-hour episodes each. Home Strange Home, hosted by comedian Chuck Nice, tours eccentric and bizarre residences from a modern-day Peter Pan’s Neverland to a home made out of animal bones. Extreme Homes currently airs on Thursdays at 9p and offers an up-close look at some of the most spectacular houses ever built. Season three of Extreme Homes will premiere in first quarter 2013. You Live in What? goes inside the homes of people who live in outrageous abodes and season two will be back on HGTV’s schedule in early 2013.
A sweet new competition series debuts on Food Network when Sugar Dome launches November 25 at 8p. The weekly series watches as three teams of artists from different disciplines enter the Sugar Dome to battle it out and create food art masterpieces. Cake designers and sugar artists work with professional fruit carvers, graffiti artists, sand sculptors and more in this competition where the champ earns a title and a $15,000 prize. David Bull hosts the series and is joined by judges pastry chef and cake designer Paulette Goto (Unique Sweets, Jacques Torres Chocolates) and pastry chef Pichet Ong (Sugar & Plumm) as well as a rotating judge including actress Monica Potter, Motocross champion Nate Adams and costume designer Randall Christensen. Sugar Dome is produced by Super Delicious.
Syfy debuts season two of its unscripted competition series Total Blackout on October 30 at 10p followed by the network’s newest competition series Viral Video Showdown at 1030p. Jaleel White hosts Total Blackout which averaged 1.2 million total viewers during its first season. FremantleMedia North America produces the international half-hour extreme game show where contestants battle each other and their fears in various rounds of challenges while in complete darkness. Viral Video Showdown is hosted by Kevin Pereira and follows two teams as they create a video that best captures that week’s theme and wows the viral video judges including Adam Sessler, Brittani Taylor and Sandeep Parikh and guest judges. Total Blackout was created by Henrik Nielsen who is an executive producer along with Scott St. John and Noah Bonnett is a co-EP. Viral Video Showdown is produced by 495 Productions with SallyAnn Salsano (Jersey Shore, Tattoo Nightmares) and Pereira serving as executive producers.
This Sunday, BBC America airs the first season finale of Copper and late yesterday the network announced it has renewed its first original scripted series for a second season. BBC America has re-commissioned the drama with an upped order of 13 episodes from Cineflix Studios. Since its premiere on August 19, Copper has been the network’s highest-rated drama ever, delivering more than a million total viewers each week. Copper, set in 1864 New York City is a Cineflix (Copper) Inc. production in association with BBC America.
Here TV is set to premiere a new anthology series titled Because of an Earlier Incident beginning October 26. The opening episode will feature nightlife and fashion guru Amanda Lepore and rapper, DJ Cazwell and will debut exclusively on Here TV and Here TV Online, the network’s premium online subscription video player at http://premium.heretv.com/. Because of an Earlier Incident offers an exclusive day-in-the-life look into the lifestyles of New York City artists. Other artists featured in episode one include Bill Coleman, Marco Ovando, Nomi Ruiz and Jessica 6 and future episodes highlight Sherry Vine, Joey Arias, The Ones, Johnny Dynell, Justin Vivian Bond, Roxy Cottontail and Chi Chi Valenti among others.
Docu-series Teen Mom 2 rejoins MTV’s schedule on a new day, Mondays starting November 12 at 10p. The third season continues to follow the emotional journeys of four young mothers, Chelsea, Jenelle, Kailyn and Leah as they face bigger challenges when their children enter into their “terrible twos” while they juggle their own lives.
FX’s new miniseries American Horror Story: Asylum launched Wednesday and over multiple telecasts (10p premiere and encores at 1105p and 1a) attracted 5.79 million total viewers; 4.17 million with A18-49; and 2.7 million among A18-34. For the 10p premiere episode, AHS: Asylum delivered 3.85 million total viewers; 2.78 million A18-49 viewers and a 2.20 rating; as well as 1.78 million with A18-34 and a 2.63 rating.

Celebrity and pop culture magazine publisher, American Media Inc. is partnering with Unconventional Partners and Big Fish Entertainment LLC to syndicate a new daily half-hour entertainment news TV format, OK! TV slated to launch in fall 2013. The show will utilize American Media’s flagship media property, OK! Magazine. OK! TV will focus on pop culture, gossip and celebrity lifestyle offering a new perspective with exclusive content from newsmakers and celebrities to regular people who make headlines. The daily strip show will also access content from OK! Magazine’s sister brands including Shape, Men’s Fitness, Star, Country Weekly, National Enquirer and Soap Opera Digest. The TV show is a co-production between Unconventional Partners and American Media is being created to air in all day parts including access, Monday through Friday with an added weekend show.
ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITV GE) inked a new deal involving the format The Audience created by independent The Garden. The format is being commissioned by Corus Entertainment’s W Network with production company Force Four Entertainment developing the one-hour six-episode series which will air in 2013. ITVS GE picked up The Audience as part of its first-look deal with The Garden. The Audience launched in Denmark with four 50-minute episodes produced by Blu and the format is also in production by ITV Studios France with 3 70-minute for TF1. ITVS GE has additionally sold the format to RTL4 in the Netherlands.

Rock star Bret Michaels was tapped to host the new original series Rock My RV with Bret Michaels on Travel Channel. The network forged a talent deal with Michaels to host the eight-episode half-hour series that has been approved for production beginning next month. In the series, Michaels will lead a team of skilled, custom RV designers and fabricators who transform ordinary RVs into over-the-top mobile mansions. Rock My RV will premiere in 2013 and is produced by BCII Productions for Travel Channel.
Comedy Central is moving forward with a weekly half-hour animated series titled Triptank which is a collection of comedy shorts in different animation styles including 2D, stop-motion and CGI and will feature stand-alone pieces and recurring themes. The pilot will spotlight shorts from Bob Odenkirk, Larry David, Zach Galifianakis, Kumail Nanjiani, Brett Gelman and Kyle Kinane. Triptank is set to premiere next fall and is executive produced by ShadowMachine’s Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico who also produces Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken.
The Mummy star Brendan Fraser was cast to star in TNT’s drama pilot Legends from executive producer Howard Gordon (Homeland). Legends is about a deep-cover operative named Martin Odum who has an extraordinary ability to transform himself into a different person for each job. Gordon, Jeffrey Nachmanoff, Alexander Cary and Jonathan Levin developed the project based on the book by Robert Littell. David Semel will direct the pilot and be an executive producer along with Fraser who plays Martin in the pilot. Fox 21 is producing.
Saturday Night Live alum Andy Samberg landed a role in an untitled FOX comedy pilot from Parks and Recreation co-creator Mike Schur and executive producer Dan Goor. The single-camera project is about a diverse group of detectives in a precinct located at the edge of New York City. Samberg will play the lead investigator.

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis: CBS won by a narrow margin Wednesday with 2.8/8 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. For Survivor: Philippines at 8p, CBS posted the winning number of 2.8/8 while ABC’s sitcoms The Middle and The Neighbors were second at an average of 2.2/7 and Univision’s Por Ella Soy Eva came in third at 1.8/5. ABC pivoted into first place at 9p with its comedies Modern Family and the season premiere of Suburgatory at an average of 3.8/10 (Suburgatory delivered a 2.8/7 at 930p) and CBS slid back into second place with Criminal Minds at 3.1/8 and FOX’s The X Factor was next at 2.5/7. CBS was back in the #1 spot during 10p with CSI at 2.3/7 and ABC’s new series Nashville was #2 at 2.0/6 with Univision’s Amor Bravio in third at 1.7/5 and tying for fourth place was NBC’s new series Chicago Fire and FOX’s extended The X Factor at 1.5/4 each.

Effective October 22, Cameron Blanchard was elevated to SVP/Corporate Communications at NBCUniversal. In her new role, Cameron will execute the development and implementation of NBCU’s media relations strategy and will serve as a primary corporate media spokesperson across the company’s networks and business divisions. Cameron succeeds Kathy Kelly-Brown in this position who was recently named to manage communications for the entire NBCU News Group. Cameron will report to Adam Miller, EVP, NBCUniversal.
Local multimedia company, LIN Media is growing its digital operations on the West Coast and as a result is opening a new office in Los Angeles. Jamie Elden, RMM’s SVP/Sales and who dually is Head/Entertainment for LIN Media’s digital operations and Heather Wetzler, RMM’s West Coast Sales Director are heading new efforts targeting the entertainment industry to further enhance LIN Media’s current digital media offerings.
Kate Schumaecker joined Universal Cable Productions in the role as VP/Development and Current Programming where she will oversee the development of drama and comedy series for the studio to air on USA Network. Kate will manage such current series as Psych and Fairly Legal. Kate reports to Richard Rothstein, SVP/Development and Current Programming, Universal Cable Productions.
