~ IN THE NEWS ~

Get ready for more outrageousness. Miley Cyrus is slated to perform live at MTV‘s European Music Awards in Amsterdam on Sunday, November 10. 

The countdown to The 47th Annual CMA Awards on Wednesday, November 6, begins with For the Love of Music: The Story of Nashville, airing Sunday, November 3 on ABC. The documentary details the rich history of Music City as told through the eyes Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Kris Kristofferson and more.

Vatican TV celebrates its 30th anniversary on Friday, October 20. In honor of the milestone, the church-owned broadcast network will air a special symposium at Rome’s Foreign Press Center, including messages from Pope Francis and Italy’s president Giorgio Napolitano.

Speaking on the New Network Panel at the Cynopsis Future TV Summit, Joel Kliksberg, chief strategy officer for Fusion, promised a big surprise for the net’s October 28 launch.

Lifetime‘s Project Runway and Tide Pods joined forces in the season 12 finale of the design competition for a multi-platform sponsorship, including in-show integration, a custom washable challenge, custom content and a digital sponsorship. It’s part of the brand’s latest fashion-focused initiative: Tide is partnering with the Council of Fashion Designers of America to introduce a Washable Fashion Program.

A set of overindulgent 20-somethings are the focus of the upcoming E! series Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, premiering January 2014. The show documents the lives of five friends living in a world of extreme wealth, who have achieved social media infamy by documenting their lavish spending, lifestyles and high priced drama on Instagram and Twitter.

~ COMING UP ~

Lady Gaga is collaborating with a few new artists. Namely, Kermit, Miss Piggy and company.  The singer will appear on the 90-minute ABC special Lady Gaga & the Muppets’ Holiday Spectacular on Thursday, November 28 at 9:30p.

Discovery Channel‘s one hour special JFK: The Lost Tapes explores the assassination of President Kennedy through newly released audio recordings and testimonies from those on-site in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963, including secret Service agent Clint Hill. The show airs Thursday, November 21 at 7p.

Struggling houses of worship get a “faith lift” in National Geographic Channel‘s Church Rescue. The new series focuses on three business-savvy ministers who help religious leaders make practical changes that free them up to spread the good word. The series premieres Monday, November 11 at 10p.

~ PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT ~

Breaking Bad‘s George Mastras has signed a two-year overall deal with HBO to develop new projects for the network. Mastras is also in talks to join Mick Jagger, Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter for HBO’s upcoming rock ‘n’ roll drama.
 
CBS
is adapting The Never List, based on the international best-selling novel by Koethi Zan about four kidnapped girls, to series. A.M. Homes (The L Word) will write the script and executive produce.

Adaptation rights to the Norwegian thriller Mammon have been picked up by 20th Century Fox Television from independent distributor DRG. The U.S. version of the series, which centers on an investigative journalist, will be executive produced by Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope  for Chernin Entertainment.

FOX has given a 13-episode series order to Hieroglyph, a fantastical action-adventure show produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Chernin Entertainment. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2014.

~ RETURNING SERIES ~

ABC has ordered three additional episodes of The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife. The freshman sitcoms are part of the net’s new Tuesday line-up.

Emmy-winning series Dan Rather Reports returns to AXS TV on Monday, October 21 at 8p. The premiere episode, Gone To Pot, takes looks at illegal marijuana growers in Northern California.

Tall trees, high stakes, big adventure… the rugged men and women of Ax Men will soon be back. The logging series’ seventh season premieres on Sunday, November 10 at 9p on History.

~ CASTING NEWS ~

Victor Garber has been tapped to guest star on season five of CBSThe Good Wife. He’ll play a strict judge ruling over a double jury trial on the show, airing Sundays at 9p.

There will be three new additions to The Real Housewives of New Jersey, when the Bravo reality show debuts its sixth season. Twin sisters Nicole and Teresa Napolitano and their pal Amber Marchese are joining the cast.

Laura Donnelly has been cast as Jenny Fraser in the upcoming Starz series Outlander. The show is currently filming in Scotland and is slated to premiere in 2014.

~ INTERNATIONAL HAPPENINGS ~

British TV and radio talk show icon Terry Wogan is set to host a 90-minute special compilation episode of The Ed Sullivan Show. Premiering on Turner Classic Movies in the U.K. on Sunday, November 10, it will feature insight into the show’s artists and its famous host.

Keshet International has signed a deal for its hit singing competition show Rising Star with Sony Pictures Television Group‘s Italian production company, Toro. It marks the fifth acquisition of the show in just over a week.

Call for Submissions: Cynopsis is producing its annual Holiday Programming Guide, which comes out on November 26 and will be sent to all Cynopsis and Cynopsis Kids subscribers. If your network has holiday-themed programming airing from November 27 through December 31, please send your listings to Lynn Leahey at [email protected] no later than Monday November 18. ~ RATINGS ~

ABC‘s Toy Story of Terror! premiered with big numbers. The Halloween special was #1 among Total Viewers (10.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.0/9) and gave the network its best  performance in the time period in nearly 2 years.

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis: ABC won the night among the A18-49 viewers at 2.6/7, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, ABC’s Toy Story of Terror was #1 at 3.1/10, followed by CBS’ Survivor at 2.5/8. CBS’ Survivor claimed the top spot at 8:30p at 2.6/8. FOX’s MLB ALCS Game was a close second at 2.5/8. At 9p, ABC’s Modern Family reclaimed the lead at 4.1/11. CBS’ Criminal Minds was second at 2.7/7, but moved into first at 9:30p at 2.8/7. FOX’s MLB ALCS Game trailed at 2.6/7, but took over the top spot at 10p at 2.4/7. CBS’ CSI followed at 2.0/6.

Mike Hopkins has been named CEO of Hulu.A Hulu Board Director since 2011, Hopkins has served as President of Distribution for Fox Networks Group, a division of 21st Century Fox, since 2008. Andy Forssell, who has served as acting CEO since March 2013, is leaving the company.

Neeraj Khemlani and George Kliavkoff have been promoted to Co-Presidents of Hearst Entertainment & Syndication. Both will continue their current management roles with Kliavkoff overseeing Hearst Ventures and Khemlani heading the Digital Studios.

Revolt TV has named trends expert Jake Katz its Vice President of Audience Insights and Strategy. The music network founded by Sean Combs is set to launch on October 21 on Comcast and Time Warner Cable in top markets nationwide.

Time Warner Cable has named Jeffrey Painting as Senior Vice President and Chief Sales Officer, Business Services.  Painting last served as President of Business Sales and Care at CenturyLink.

Media veteran Cheah Chee Kong (CheeK) has been appointed Head of Content, Creative and Marketing of Asia Pacific for Scripps Networks Interactive, Inc. CheeK was a founding member The Group Entertainment and Executive Vice President of Creative.
