Television; and Happy Endings is from Sony Pictures Television, Fan Fare Productions and ABC Studios.

New game show, Million Dollar Mind Game premieres on ABC October 23 at 4p.  The show sports teams made up of six people who all know each other (co-workers, friends, teammates, etc.) and are challenged by a series of logic-based questions.  The more questions the team answers correctly, the more money they will earn towards a grand prize which is potentially $1 million.  British TV presenter Vernon Kay is the show’s host.

On Monday, RLTV, the cable network offering information and entertainment to adults aged 50+, is airing a preview of new series Danger Zone at 7p.  The one-hour series, hosted by former US Ambassador, Richard Carlson, intelligence expert, Bill Cowan and battlefield psychologist, Renee Garfinkle serves up the real stories behind covert missions, counterintelligence operations and historical events that have made news in the last century.  Danger Zone will premiere on RLTV in January.

New five-part series Trashopolis debuts on Smithsonian Channel November 6 at 8p.  Narrated by comic book writer and rocker Jesse Blaze Snider, son of Twisted Sister lead man Dee Snider, Trashopolis takes a look at five different cities that grew and flourished because of its garbage.  Episode one explores New York City and subsequent episodes delve into Paris, Rome, London and Cairo.

Kansas City-based Newport Television, LLC signed an agreement to sell KTVF-TV, the NBC affiliate licensed to Fairbanks, AK to Chena Broadcasting, LLC also based in Fairbanks.  The deal is pending approval from the FCC and is expected to be complete within the next 90 days.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

A four-year licensing deal was forged between CBS Corporation and Warner Bros. Television Group with Netflix.  The agreement allows US Netflix subscribers to instantly watch previous seasons of scripted shows from The CW from its present schedule through the 2014-2015 season.  The four-year output deal gives Netflix the rights to stream more than 700 hours of previous-season episodes of The CW dramas as well as future programs.  The rights deal extends for four years after each series, current or future, ends its broadcast run on The CW.  The network’s content can also be accessed through traditional syndication windows, electronic sell-through services and on a partial-season basis through authenticated cable providers.  Programs from The CW available to Netflix members include the eight dramas on the network’s 2011 schedule: frosh series Ringer, Hart of Dixie and The Secret Circle as well as returning shows The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, 90210, Supernatural, Nikita and the midseason series One Tree Hill.  Starting October 15, previous seasons of The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and Nikita will be available for instant watching while previous seasons of Supernatural and 90210 will be available in January 2012.  Episodes of all scripted series airing on The CW currently will be available to Netflix members in Fall 2012.  All future episodes of the scripted series on The CW through the 2014-2015 season will be available via streaming from Netflix through an upcoming window.

New talk show Steve Harvey was sold by NBCUniversal Domestic TV Distribution to the NBC Owned Television Stations for a Fall 2012 launch.  Steve Harvey is a one-hour talk show starring TV personality/comedian/radio show host and author Steve Harvey and is produced by Endemol USA.  The 10 NBC O&Os airing Steve Harvey include WNBC/New York, KNBC/Los Angeles, WMAQ/Chicago, WCAU/Philadelphia, KNTV/San Francisco, KXAS/Dallas-Fort Worth, WRC/Washington, D.C., WTVJ/Miami, KNSD/San Diego and WVIT/Hartford.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

After a bidding war, NBC was the victor on Ryan Murphy’s new comedy at 20th Century Fox Television.  NBC gave the untitled project a put-pilot commitment with a high penalty and details on the plot are kept secret for now.  Murphy will serve as EP and will write along with Glee co-EP Allison Adler and Glee EP Dante Di Loreto.

NBC gave a script order to Serial Killer Whisperer, a one-hour drama project loosely based on the life of traumatic brain injury survivor Tony Ciaglia about a man whose major brain injury makes him incapable of judging or feeling repulsion and he becomes a confidant to convicted serial killers.  Ciaglia’s story was told in the book by Pete Earley The Serial Killer Whisperer: How One Man’s Tragedy Helped Unlock the Deadliest Secrets of the World’s Most Terrifying Killers and Simon & Schuster’s Touchstone unit will publish in January. Judith K. McCreary, who has worked on NBC’s Law & Order: SVU for the last eight years as co-EP, writer and supervising producer will adapt the book; Universal Television is producing.

ABC okayed an untitled project from Craig Kilborn which has the former late-night talk show host serving as writer and star.  The single-camera comedy is part of Kilborn’s development deal with ABC Studios and is about him playing an eccentric mystery writer who finds his life turned upside down when he meets the woman of his dreams.  Mark Torgove and Paul Kaplan will pen the script and serve as EPs along with Kilborn.

A drama project is on tap at ABC titled Two Crowns from writer Andrew Chapman (Pocahontas) who will write and serve as EP on this project.  Brillstein Entertainment Partners’ Joanne Alfano is on board as EP. ABC Studios is producing this drama about two powerful families who battle for control of the country.

Ellen DeGeneres also has a project in the works at ABC, a comedy titled Weitz & Wong.  ABC gave it a script order and the plot centers on a mixed race Jewish-Chinese couple and their two kids who try to create their own identity amidst very different extended families.  DeGeneres is producing through her A Very Good Productions company at Warner Bros. Television.  Alex Herschlag, the former writer on Ellen will write this new comedy.

ABC further continues its working arrangement with Gossip Girl producer Alloy Entertainment for two more comedies, per THR. The first is multi-camera comedy called Late Bloomer’s Revolution based on a memoir of the same name by Amy Cohen about a father and daughter who are both in the dating world after the passing of their respective wife and mother.  Cohen (Caroline in the City, Spin City) will write and serve as EP with Michelle Nader, Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo.  The second project is an untitled half-hour family comedy from British comedian and writer/supervising producer Laura Solon about three adult siblings whose lives are changed when their mother decides to move to the city where they all live and wants to become an active presence in their daily lives.  Alloy’s Morgenstein and Girolamo are on board as EPs.  ABC gave this comedy project a script plus penalty order.  Both comedy projects are from Alloy in association with Warner Bros. Television.

truTV approved a pilot for the new series, Guinness World Records Gone Wild and Jamie Kennedy was tapped as host for the pilot.  The series features ordinary people who attempt to get in the famous record book by doing extraordinary feats such as the fastest time to jump over three oncoming cars, highest dive into 12 inches of water, most live cockroaches held in the mouth and much more.  High Noon Entertainment is producing.

Global entertainment company Lionsgate continues its foray into non-scripted fare by signing a three-year joint television deal with Banca Studio, the company recently established by producer Roy Bank (Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?) and former President/Television for Merv Griffin Entertainment (MGE).  The deal also allows Lionsgate to purchase the production slate and development projects Bank began while at MGE including NBC’s summer game show It’s Worth What?, Bloomberg Television’s The Mentor and the soon-to-debut Million Dollar Mind Game opening October 23 on ABC.  Furthermore, Brian Veskosky is joining Bank at Banca Studio as EVP to supervise all aspects of the business.  Bloomberg TV’s The Mentor is also in production on eight new episodes for season two.

British hit period drama Downton Abbey once again makes the news as Executive Producer and MD of UK production for NBC Universal International TV Gareth Neame said the series could easily eclipse three seasons as long as viewers want more and ratings remain successful cites THR.  This follows a report yesterday that said Downton Abbey’s creator/writer Julian Fellowes had conceived plots and settings for three seasons.  Currently, Downton Abbey is airing its second season in the UK on ITV following the UK version of The X-Factor.  Season two will debut in the US on PBS January 8.

Prolific producer Dick Wolf is partnering with HBO on an untitled 1950s period drama set in Santa Monica about a RAND-like think tank mission to prevent the launch of a nuclear bomb, cites THR.  Wolf would serve as EP and Boardwalk Empire writer/supervising producer Howard Korder is on board to write the project.  Allen Coulter was tapped to direct.

Soon after her talk show stint ended on CBS’ The Talk, Holly Robinson Peete remains with CBS in a multi-episode gig on comedy Mike & Molly.  Peete will play a love interest for Mike’s dating-challenged partner Carl (Reno Wilson).

Former Battlestar Galactica star Tricia Helfer landed the lead role in TNT’s new pilot playing opposite a dog.  Scent of the Missing is based on a book by Susannah Charleson about a woman who volunteers with the K-9 Search and Rescue unit.  Gerald McRaney was also cast as the father of Helfer’s character.

In the next season of FX’s Justified, Arlo Givens will return, per THR. Raymond J. Barry will reprise his role as Arlo Givens, the father of Timothy Olyphant’s character, Deputy US Marshal Raylan Givens.  Barry agreed to a multi-episode run for the series’ third season which debuts in January.

Casting Call: Doron Ofir Casting is looking for the nation’s top professional matchmakers to star in a new television series project.  The matchmakers should be experts in all fields of love, relationships and dating.  Interested matchmakers who think their abilities are top-notch and are ready to share their love and dating wisdom on television should send an email to: [email protected].  People can also nominate someone they know who is a professional matchmaker.
