NBC gave a limited back order to its first season comedy, Guys With Kids.  The Jimmy Fallon-produced sitcom received four additional episodes.  In its most recent airing, Guys With Kids averaged a 1.3 rating with A18-49 and 3.8 million total viewers.  These added episodes bring Guys With Kids up to 17 total episodes.

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Yesterday, FX renewed its anthology series, American Horror Story for a third run with 13 total episodes bowing in fall 2013.  Jessica Lange will return for the third installment of the Ryan Murphy/Twentieth Century Fox Television production.  The title and plot have yet to be revealed.  Currently, the series’ second season, American Horror Story: Asylum is up +19% both in total viewers and among A18-49 over the first season, averaging 5.23 million total viewers and 3.88 million with A18-49 on a Live+7 basis.  The second season finale will air January 23. 

On Monday evening in New York City, two-time Academy Award winner and two-time Emmy winner, Jessica Lange, star of FX’s American Horror Story will present the 2012 International Emmy Founders Award to Ryan Murphy at the 40th International Emmy Awards.  In turn, Ryan Murphy will present the 40th Anniversary Special Founders Award to television veterans Normal Lear (All in the Family) and Alan Alda (M*A*S*H) and other awards.  Regis Philbin is hosting the event held at the Hilton New York.

The Style Network will premiere the next installment of its Big Rich Texas franchise when Big Rich Atlanta debuts January 20 at 8p.  Big Rich Atlanta is set inside the exclusive world of an Atlanta country club where over-the-top wealthy mothers and daughters do whatever it takes to stay on top of the social scene.  Big Rich Atlanta is produced by Fly on the Wall Entertainment.

Also in January, E! debuts Kourtney & Kim Take Miami, the latest series in the Kardashian reality franchise.  The new series is produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions and Bunim/Murray Productions and follows sisters Kourtney and Kim as they make the beach city their home base for several months to open their DASH Miami boutique. 

Weekly topical series The Burn with Jeff Ross received a second season renewal order from Comedy Central.  The series will have six all-new episodes kicking off season two on January 8.  The series is executive produced by Ross, Mike Gibbons, Chris McGuire and Tagline Television’s Willie Mercer and Amy Zvi.

Science Channel picked up the series Fringe and is airing all five seasons in 2012 and 2013.  The network will kick off with a premiere of the two-hour pilot and first episode on November 20 from 8-11p with season one continuing with back-to-back episodes on November 23 from 1030a to 11p and also on November 24 from 1130a to 11p.  Fringe will then settle in its Tuesday night slot from 8-11p beginning November 27 with season two.

The second half of season six return of Hardcore Pawn on truTV last Tuesday drew in 1.4 million A18-49 viewers as well as 3.1 million total viewers.  Hardcore Pawn, produced by Zodiak USA airs Tuesdays at 9p on truTV. 

Programming Note: This weekend, the PBS science series NOVA, produced by WGBH will present Inside the Megastorm, an original one-hour documentary that follows the progression of Hurricane Sandy moment by moment.  The documentary airs on Sunday at 7p on PBS (check local listings) which will serve as a lead-in to the new two-part, four-hour Ken Burns documentary series, The Dust Bowl at 8p to form an Extreme Weather-themed television programming block on PBS this Sunday night.  An encore airing of Inside the Megastorm will air in NOVA’s regular time slot on November 21 at 9p on PBS (check local listings).

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

REELZCHANNEL announced Muse Entertainment Enterprises has acquired the rights to the book, After Camelot by J. Randy Taraborrelli which recounts the personal history of the Kennedy family from 1968 to the present.  As a result, REELZ has made a co-development deal with Muse Entertainment Enterprises to produce a miniseries based on After Camelot.  Muse Entertainment Enterprises will handle the production and the international distribution for the miniseries.  Keri Selig of Intuition Productions brought the project to REELZ and will serve as EP.  This new project marks the third collaboration between Muse Entertainment Enterprises and REELZ which includes the miniseries The Kennedys and the WWII-era drama series Bomb Girls.  Over Thanksgiving weekend, REELZ will air The Kennedys miniseries in its entirety twice on November 22 with all eight hours airing back-to-back starting at 8a.  In between, REELZ will air the film JFK at 4p followed by another airing of The Kennedy’s at 8p. 

FOX’s Touch has added Mykelti Williamson and Frances Fisher in recurring roles when the second season returns February 1.  Williamson will play LAPD Detective Lang who has seen it all and possesses a keen sense for the truth while Fisher will play Nicole Farington, the ultra-organized head of Astor Corps.

STARZ revealed the addition of new cast members for the upcoming original pirate series, Black Sails from Michael Bay which takes place 20 year prior to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic Treasure Island.  Australian actor Luke Arnold will star as John Silver in the years before his fame and glory.  Zack McGowan will play Captain Charles Vane, a rival pirate captain to the brilliant and feared Captain Flint played by Toby Stephens.  Hannah New will play Eleanor Guthrie, a beautiful young woman who runs the smuggling operation on New Providence.  Rising star Jessica Parker Kennedy has been cast as Max, a young prostitute who seeks the dark side of New Providence; Hakeem Kae Kazim will play Mr. Scott; Toby Schmitz will play Rackham; and Clara Paget has been cast as Anne Bonny, a female member of Captain Vane’s crew.  The eight-episode first season is slated to premiere on STARZ in 2014.  Michael Bay serves as EP on Black Sails along with his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.  The series is created by showrunner and EP Jon Steinberg and co-EP Robert Levine.  Production will begin later this year at Cape Town Studios in Cape Town, South Africa.

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis:  FOX was in charge Wednesday delivering a 2.9/8 A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. FOX’s The X Factor topped at 8p with a 2.9/9 followed by CBS’ Survivor: Philippines at 2.6/8 while on NBC, a new season of Whitney debuted posted a 1.4/4 at 8p.  During 9p, ABC’s sitcoms Modern Family and Suburgatory dominated with an average 3.5/9 while CBS’ Criminal Minds and FOX’s The X Factor tied for second place at 3.0/8 each.  Then at 10p, CBS had a turn at #1 with CSI at 2.5/7 with ABC’s Nashville second at 1.8/5, Univision’s Amor Bravio a close third at 1.7/5 and CBS’ Chicago Fire nipping in fourth at 1.6/5.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Patrick Vogt has been appointed President of The Weather Company’s (TWC) International Division.  Patrick joined the company earlier last summer when TWC acquired Weather Central where he served as CEO.  In his new capacity, Patrick will head all international business including TWC’s digital and professional products and services.  All sales, marketing and operational units within the international regions will report to him.  Patrick will be based at TWC’s London office reporting to TWC Chairman/CEO David Kenny.

Vancouver-based Rainmaker Entertainment Inc. named Michael Hefferon as President/Executive Producer.  The announcement was made by Craig Graham, the newly appointed Chairman/CEO of the CGI animation production studio.

Effective immediately, NBCUniversal unveiled several new roles within the company’s ad sales organization.  Dan Lovinger, EVP/Advertising Sales and Integrated Marketing for Telemundo Media was promoted to EVP/Cable Ad Sales, NBCUniversal.  Dan will add sales management of several additional cable networks to his current duties.  Mark Miller, SVP/Ad Sales for USA and Syfy has been upped to EVP/Ad Sales, NBCUniversal News GroupPeter Naylor, EVP/Digital Media Sales has been named EVP/Ad Sales, NBC News DigitalTrish Frohman joins as EVP/Ad Sales Strategy and Alison Tarrant also joins in the newly-created role as EVP/Client Solutions for NBCU’s Cable Entertainment networks.  All five executives will report to Linda Yaccarino, President/Ad Sales, NBCUniversal. 

Zodiak Rights, the international unit of Zodiak Media revealed a new management structure to its London and Paris based distribution businesses.  The structure will have five divisions: Non-Scripted Programming, Scripted Programming, Kids, Digital & Publishing and Clips.  Beginning January 1, 2013 all Non-Scripted Programming will be sold out of London and all Scripted projects sold out of Paris with all other divisions based out of London.  As a result of the restructure, Jane Millichip, Managing Director Zodiak Rights London has opted to exit the company at the end of January 2013.  Zodiak Rights is currently in the recruiting phase for a new non-scripted division head and will announce the new hire soon.  Furthermore, Zodiak Rights created a new role of COO and has appointed Sara Wookey to the position. 

CMT hired television industry veteran Joe Livecchi in the newly-created position of SVP/Development.  Joe will have responsibility over multiple development teams in addition to all external and third party productions.  Joe will be based at the Viacom Media Network headquarters in New York and will report to Jayson Dinsmore, EVP/Development and Programming, CMT.  CMT’s West Coast development team comprised of Claire McCabe, Melanie Moreau and Eliot Goldberg will report to Joe Livecchi.

The Sponsorship Group for Public Television (SGPTV), sales organization for PBS programming added Brian Granath as National Sponsorship Director.  Brian will be based at SGPTV’s New York office.
