~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

IFC is upping its comedy quotient and star power. The cable network has greenlit two new series. First up: The Spoils of Babylon, an epic spoof from Funny or Die and executive producers Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Matt Piedmont, and Andrew Steele. “This is a crazy and maybe even a stupid idea,” said Ferrell of the project. “IFC is either really courageous or really stupid, which makes them the perfect partner for us.” The series will have an ensemble cast and is slated to air in 2013. IFC is also moving forward with the new scripted sketch comedy The Birthday Boys, executive produced by Ben Stiller and Bob Odenkirk. The show originally began and found success with viral videos on online.

E!’s Fashion Police will salute the fashion-conscious men and women of professional sports with the month-long celebration Fash Fabness, premiering Friday, March 8 at 10p. A wide range of sports-related celebrities, from boxer Laila Ali to Super Bowl champion Dennis Pitta and NASCAR great Jeff Gordon, will visit the show throughout the month as Joan Rivers and her style posse count down the 16 most fashionable athletes of the year. Fash Fabness will culminate with the announcement of the most fashion-forward athlete on March 29 at 10p.

Parents convinced their child is the smartest on the playground will want to check out ABC‘s new game show, Bet on Your Baby. Hosted by Melissa Peterman (host of ABC Family’s Baby Daddy), the competition features toddlers performing various challenges from stacking cookies to cleaning up toys. The parents guess their child’s next move in hopes of winning money toward their college fund. The show debuts Saturday, April 6 at 8p.

~ LEGAL AFFAIRS ~

Current TV and owner Al Gore have been sued by media consultant John Terenzio. Terenzio alleges it was his idea to sell Current TV to Al Jazeera and create Al Jazeera America in order to secure U.S. distribution. He also claims it was his PowerPoint presentation that was made by one of the Current investors to Gore. In the suit, Terenzio contends there was a breach of an implied agreement and that he was not compensated following the sale. He is suing for at least $5 million in compensation.

Broadcasters have won a legal victory in Europe. The European Union’s Court of Justice has sided with ITV Broadcasting, Channel 4 Television Corporation and others ruling against TVCatchup, a service that allows consumers to watch TV on their computers, phones and digital devices. The European court examined whether online streaming of television broadcasts is a communication to the public, requiring the consent of the copyright owner. Broadcasters got the preliminary ruling they wanted as the judge confirmed the public nature of streaming.

~ RETURNING SERIES ~

Get ready for more feline madness. Jackson Galaxy will continue to take on the most hellacious cat cases yet in the new season of Animal Planet’s My Cat from Hell. The show returns with 17 new episodes on April 6 at 8p. This season’s gamut of calamitous cat cases includes kitty turf wars, mood swings and a ferocious feline that does severe damage to its 95-year-old owner.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. has announced a multi-year distribution agreement with the National Cable Television Cooperative. Under the pact’s terms, Turner’s portfolio of networks, including CNN, HLN, TNT, TBS, Cartoon Network/Adult Swim, Turner Classic Movies (TCM), truTV, CNN International, CNN en Espanol and Boomerang, will continue to be carried by NCTC’s nearly 1,000 independent cable operator members nationwide. NCTC members will also have rights to carry a myriad of entertainment, kids, news, sports and young adults programming, as well as on-demand content that is available across the Turner networks. This includes news and information from CNN, sports programming such as the NBA and NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship, TBS’s Conan and TNT’s Rizzoli & Isles and Falling Skies, and Cartoon Network’s Regular Show and Adventure Time.

Starz Worldwide Distribution, the global licensing and content syndication arm of Starz, has announced that the comedy series, Party Down, is coming to the new Esquire Network beginning in April 2013, following the exclusive licensing of its U.S. broadcast rights. Starz retains select on-demand and online rights to the show during the license period. “Party Down, with its smart and irreverent brand of humor, is a perfect fit for Esquire Network’s new lineup,” said Matt Monos, Esquire Network’s head of programming and acquisitions.

~ CASTING NEWS ~

Judge Reinhold is joining the cast of the CBS pilot Beverly Hills Cop, the drama, described as a continuation of the movie franchise. Reinhold will reprise his role as Axel Foley’s partner, Billy Rosewood. The project will reunite Reinhold with Eddie Murphy, who’s also set to resurrect his role as Axel.

Hope Davis, last seen on In Treatment, has landed the female lead in the CBS political thriller The Ordained. The series centers on Tom, a former priest who becomes a lawyer to prevent his politician sister from being assassinated. Davis portrays that sister, Patricia, a tough New York City mayor, who’s seeking re-election.

Omar Epps, formerly of House, has been cast in a lead role in the ABC drama pilot, The Returned. He’ll play Martin Bellamy, an agent with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
