An eighth season is on tap for FOX’s drama series Bones. During the next new season, Bones will reach its 150th episode. Seven more episodes of Bones rejoins FOX’s schedule starting next Monday.
TLC and actress/author/designer Tori Spelling are teaming to highlight the nearly $30 billion crafting industry in the new competition series Craft Wars. Each episode watches as three new, everyday craft enthusiasts go head to head in various challenges participating in different types of crafts. Spelling will host the series as well as serve as an executive producer. Super Delicious is producing the 10-episode series which began production in Los Angeles last week. TLC will debut Craft Wars on June 26.
New reality series Dream Machines debuts on Syfy April 10 at 10p and the two-part premiere episodes will feature rapper/actor/entrepreneur 50 Cent. The series is set in Florida and follows brothers Marc and Shannon Parker, owners of Parker Brothers’ Concepts. The Parker brothers and their crew take imaginative vehicles seen in movies, comic books and TV shows and turns them into real-life vehicles. Dream Machines is produced by Triage Entertainment.
UPFRONT 2012: Food Network & Cooking Channel
Food Network and Cooking Channel, both part of Scripps Networks Interactive, offered up their 2012 lineups of new and returning series with a total of 22 new series and 35 returning series between the two networks.
Food Network new primetime series:
- Meat Men is a previously-announced series highlighting well-known New York butcher and meat purveyor Pat LaFrieda. Premieres April 9 at 11p.
- Cupcake Champions pits 16 of Cupcake Wars’ best and most memorable winners against each other in a competition to name the top cupcake champ. Premieres May 13 at 8p.
- Invention Hunters follows Steve Greenberg and Patrick Raymond who are “invention scouts” as they search America for the next great kitchen gadget invention. Debuts May 14 at 9p.
- Mystery Diners shadows a group of undercover operatives as they go into restaurants, bars and food service establishments with hidden cameras to find out what is really going on when the boss is not around. Premieres May 25 at 10p.
- The New Anne Burrell Project (wt) sees Anne putting four executive chef candidates through the toughest job interview of their lives with the goal to see which one is ready to run the restaurant. Premieres in June 2012.
- Bobby Flay’s Opening Night (wt) has Flay offering advice to first-time restaurateurs to help make their crucial opening night a success. Debuts July 2012.
- Chopped: Grill Masters goes to the Arizona desert where 16 grilling pros are pitted against each other in this five-part tournament series. Premieres July 22 at 10p.
- $24 in 24 Hours (wt) in this new series Jeff Mauro (Sandwich King) visits cities across America to show viewers how to experience great food by spending only $24 in one day. Debuts August 2012.
- Undercover Critics follows Alex Guarnaschelli (Chopped), Troy Johnson (Crave) and Simon Majumdar (Next Iron Chef) as they go undercover as restaurant critics with hidden cameras to reveal the good and the bad of established restaurants. Launches September 2012.
- Sugar Dome follows three teams comprised of three artists working in different mediums battle to create never-before-seen food art masterpieces. Premieres October 2012.
- Blind Dinner Party is hosted by comedian Margaret Cho where seven strangers of diverse backgrounds join together to break bread and see if they can reach common ground through food. Debuts October 2012.
Food Network new daytime series:
- Trisha’s Southern Kitchen is a previously-announced six-episode series featuring country music superstar and cookbook author, Trisha Yearwood as she prepares favorite meals in her own kitchen. Premieres April 14 at 1030a.
- Home for Dinner with Jamie Deen features Paula Deen’s son as he creates family dinners. Debuts June 16 at 1030a.
- Sunny Travels (wt) follows Sunny Anderson traveling the country to find the best home-cooked recipes. Debuts July 2012.
- The New Sandra Lee Project (wt) features Sandra Lee offering her fans a new take on her cooking and entertaining tips. Premieres fall 2012.

- The Culinary Adventures of Baron Ambrosia features Baron Ambrosia, the self-styled “Culinary Ambassador to the Bronx” as he travels beyond the Bronx to discover culinary delights in other cities. Debuts June 1 at 10p.
- Eden Eats follows Eden Grinshpan who travels throughout America discovering the global culinary scene in each new US city within a 24-hour period. Premieres August 2012.
- Cheap Bites is hosted by New York City chef and food writer Eddie Huang as he locates the best food deals in different Americas places. Debuts August 2012.
- Eat the Street discovers in each city the single street where one can find restaurant after restaurant with host Chuck Hughes. Premieres September 2012.
- Man, Fire, Food features Roger Mooking (Everyday Exotic, Heat Seekers) as he explores cooking at its most basic. Premieres September 2012.
- My Grandmother’s Ravioli is hosted by Mo Rocca who, though he is a foodie, doesn’t know how to cook. Mo will discover treasured recipes by visiting America’s Grandmothers and Grandfathers. Debuts fall 2012.

On Monday, Oxygen debuted new series Brooklyn 11223 at 11p attracting 624,000 total viewers. Combining an encore of the premiere episode at 1a, Brooklyn 11223 delivered a cumulative audience of nearly one million viewers (994,000) for the night. Then on Tuesday, Oxygen premiered new series Best Ink which drew in 469,000 total viewers and combined with the encore of the episode at 11p, the series tallied 817,000 for the night.
Veteran actor Warren Stevens who appeared in a number of films including Forbidden Planet and The Barefoot Contessa and many television series, died Tuesday in Sherman Oaks, CA at the age of 92. Mr. Stevens starred in the mid-1950s NBC TV series Tales of the 77th Bengal Lancers as well as the 1969-1970 NBC TV series Bracken’s World. Mr. Stevens’ career was defined though by his numerous guest starring roles in such classic TV Westerns as Gunsmoke and Bonanza to such sci-fi series as the original and the 1980s The Twilight Zone versions, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Land of the Giants and Star Trek to crime and spy dramas like The Untouchables, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Mission: Impossible and Ironside. Mr. Stevens’ final TV appearance was in a 2006 episode of ER.

Pre-MIPTV 2012:
Multi-channel Pan-African content provider M-Net is representing its first format at MIPTV, the Afrikaans series Piano Piano. The 13 half-hour episode series is inspired by the ragtime piano players of the late 1890s who would compete in piano playing duels. Each episode watches as a musical competitor challenges another to take part in a piano duel.
Zodiak Rights is taking several series and documentaries from UK independents Bedlam Productions and StoryVault Films to MIPTV after signing a new first-look development deal with both companies. The first projects from Bedlam Productions include the one-hour WWI Top Gun Revealed; the one-hour The King’s Speech Revealed; the series Object of Desire with 6 one-hour eps; the one-hour pilot Bulk Buy Britain; and the series The Book Show season 6 with 36 one-hour eps and season 7 with 26 one-hour eps.
Endemol has sold the drama series Black Mirror from Zeppotron to 21 territories prior to the show’s international market debut at MIPTV 2012. Endemol Worldwide Distribution holds the worldwide distribution rights to the series and has sold it to SBS Australia, Hot Vision Israel, SVT Sweden and both Turner and Mediaset in Spain. A pan regional deal is also being finalized for the series in Central and Eastern Europe giving 15 CIS territories access to the program in Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary. An additional commission in China is in the final stages of negotiation. Zeppotron is part of Endemol UK.

Classic British series, Yes, Prime Minister gains a revival in the UK as the British pay platform UKTV’s comedy channel Gold has commissioned six episodes. The new Yes, Prime Minister will focus on main character the Rt. Hon. Jim Hacker as the PM and leader of a coalition government. The original writing team on the 1980s original series, Jonathan Lynn and Antony Jay will return as script writers giving the series a modern-day setting. BBC Productions is producing for Gold.
Former MTV’s Total Request Live host Quddus was tapped as emcee for ABC’s summer music competition series Duets. Quddus joins previously announced Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Nettles, Lionel Richie and Robin Thicke. Duets is produced by Keep Calm and Carry On Productions.
Daniella Alonso (One Tree Hill) was cast in a recurring role for the third season of USA Network’s Covert Affairs, cites TVLine. Alonso will play Suzanne Wilkins, a therapist for the CIA.
