A new primetime telenovela, Teresa debuts on Univision next Wednesday at 9p. The plot centers on beautiful Teresa (Angelique Boyer) who is driven by ambition and greed to cheat and lie her way out of poverty instead of working hard to achieve her goals. The cast also includes Aaron Diaz, Sebastian Rulli, Ana Brenda Contreras, Cynthia Klitbo, Silvia Mariscal, Juan Carlos Colombo and Margarita Magana among others.
Frosh drama series Lights Out was not granted a second season by FX and the network said it will air the last two episodes the next two Tuesdays, March 29 and April 5 at 10p.
Showtime’s docu-series, The Franchise: A Season with the San Francisco Giants officially opens July 13 though the premium network is offering viewers a 30m preview of the series on April 13 to tie-in with the new baseball season. The Franchise gives viewers an up-close look at the players, coaches and team staffers.
Staying around for another two cycles, animated series Futurama was picked by Comedy Central through 2013. Futurama renewed for two more years with 13 episodes per cycle. Comedy Central opens new episodes of Futurama this June.
High-end interior decorators working for wealthy, famous and demanding clients in the Los Angeles area are profiled in Bravo’s new docu-series Million Dollar Decorators launching early this summer. The eight-episode series highlights five in-demand decorators as they share stories and exchange advice among their competitors whose clients expect perfection. Goodbye Pictures produces the series for Bravo.
Period spy thriller series, The Hour, created by Abi Morgan, will launch this summer on BBC America. The six-episode drama series is set during the 1950s behind the scenes at the BBC’s news room in London with a competitive love triangle woven into the plot. Dominic West, Romola Garai and Ben Whishaw star in the series distributed by Shine International. The series is a co-production between BBC America and Kudos Film and Television for the BBC.
BIO Channel unleashes a second season of My Ghost Story, the series featuring real people who captured their paranormal experiences on camera.
The series’ sophomore season, detailing more terrifying stories of poltergeists and apparitions, opens April 2 at 10p. Mark Phillips Philms & Telephison produces the series for BIO Channel.
John Salley, the former co-host of Best Damn Sports Show Period switches to pop culture and film topics as host of Game On! With John Salley debuting on Reelz Channel April 10, reports THR. The new weekly show features Salley discussing current pop culture stories and how they connect with movies. Salley also is a correspondent for Reelz for the network’s Red Carpet shows and other events for its Hollywood Dailies.
24-hour television-based multimedia network, HRTV immersed in the world of horse racing made a deal with Horse & Country Television to bring weekly programming from the UK and Ireland. HRTV will air an exclusive weekly two-hour block of programs under the umbrella, Horse & Country on HRTV, the Best From Across the Pond on Saturdays at 9p starting this weekend with encore airings on Sunday mornings, Mondays in primetime and Tuesday afternoons. The variety of programs from “across the pond” will feature horse sports coverage and documentaries about horses and the people who work with them.
Yesterday, Gravity Collection, Inc. purchased Clarity Media Group as a wholly-owned subsidiary. The transaction will allow Clarity Media Group to offer its action sports content to a broader audience with its assets including print media, clip videos and more.

MIPTV 2011:
Echo Bridge Entertainment premieres the tenth season of Degrassi at MIPTV. The series transforms into a telenovela-style format with 44 eps/30m or 22 eps/60m featuring episodic cliff hangers.
FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) added the drama thriller The Reckoning produced by TXTV for ITV1 (2 eps/60m or 1 ep/120m) to its MIPTV lineup. The Reckoning is expected to debut in the UK during second quarter this year.

“Absolutely” crazy Edina Monsoon (Jennifer Saunders) and Patsy Stone (Joanna Lumley) re-introduce themselves to US audiences as Logo picked up the complete five-season series of Absolutely Fabulous. Logo premieres the British cult comedy with a weekend marathon starting April 16 at 2p. “Ab Fab” will air on Logo in its regular time slot of Thursdays at 10p.
Muse Distribution International, the distributor of the eight-hour miniseries, The Kennedys said the historical drama is licensed in more than 50 territories globally for launches this year. ReelzChannnel will premiere The Kennedys in the US on April 3.
David Gordon Green, consulting producer on Eastbound & Down is working on a new comedy pilot for Comedy Central called Black Jack. The plot is about a former special ops agent who tries to adapt to normal life after being decommissioned. Green’s company Rough House will produce along with Danny McBride, star of Eastbound & Down. Michael Starrbury is penning the script and Rough House’s Jody Hill and Matt Reilly will serve as executive producers.
HBO’s original movie project Game Change snagged Ed Harris to play John McCain in the story about the senator’s presidential bid in the 2008 election. Previously, Julianne Moore was cast as Sarah Palin. Playtone and Everyman Pictures are producing the project based on the book Game Change by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin.

National Geographic Channels announced several promotions and a new addition to its team in Washington, D.C. as well as the establishment of a new West Coast Development Office:
- David Lyle will head the company’s new Los Angeles office on an interim basis and he will work closely with Bridget Whalen Hunnicutt who has been upped to SVP/Global Development and she will report to Steve Burns, EVP/Global Content.
- Charlie Parsons was added as VP/Global Development and Michael Mavretic and Shannon Malone were elevated to Directors/Global Development.
Madison Square Garden (MSG) tapped Alex Diaz as SVP/GM for the Arena where he will oversee all operations for the entire facility including the Theater at Madison Square Garden and the MSG Training Center.
Mary Beth Garber joins Katz Radio Group (KRG) as EVP/Radio Analysis and Insights. Mary Beth is hired to gather and produce research and other materials with the goal to educate groups from major advertisers to media, sales professionals and market analysts based on the continuing power and value of radio. Mary Beth will report to Mark Gray, President, KRG. Most recently, Mary Beth was President of the Southern California Broadcasters Association.
Adam Gerber appointed as VP/Sales Development and Marketing at ABC Television Network, reporting to Dan Longest, SVP, Disney-ABC Unlimited. In his new role, Adam will supervise a team whose goal it is to support the ABC sales force in the areas of audience positions and developing advertising solutions for marketers across all ABC platforms. Adam joins ABC from Quantcast where he served as CMO.
Full-service marketing communications agency Wing added Holly McGavock in the new position as Senior Planner. Holly will be based in New York and has responsibility over strategic planning efforts on the Eli Lilly account as well as other key company accounts. Holly reports to Andrew Speyer, VP/Head of Strategy, Wing.
Todd Schoen, with 25 years of experience in the areas of cable and broadcast television as well as entertainment and sports, is founder of Schoen Marketing. The new company offers an array of services and focuses on B2B for programmers and distributors with an emphasis on distribution marketing.
Wasserman Media Group shared the news it hired Stephanie Rudnick as VP/Marketing and Communications. Previously, Stephanie worked for Momentum Worldwide, a McCann Worldgroup Agency and part of the Interpublic Group of Companies. In her new position at Wasserman, Stephanie will lead external and internal communications efforts in addition to social media, brand development and athlete public relations support activities.
