~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

FOX has put new comedy series I Hate My Teenage Daughter on extended hiatus and will expand American Idol to two hours on Wednesdays beginning April 4.  FOX will still air the previously scheduled episode of I Hate My Teenage Daughter on April 3 at 830p where it has been airing as part of the network’s Tuesday comedy block.  In addition, Glee is back from its winter hiatus starting April 10 at 8p. 

Premiere dates for a trio of NBC summer series have been revealed: dating reality show Love in the Wild produced by Endemol USA is back for a second season beginning with a two-hour debut on June 7 at 8p.  Jenny McCarthy is host of Love in the Wild which will move to its regular time slot of 9p the following week.  Also on June 7 at 10p, NBC launches new drama series Saving Hope (wt) starring Erica Durance, Michael Shanks, Daniel Gillies, Huse Madhavji, Julia Taylor-Ross and Kristopher Turner.  Saving Hope is produced by Ilana C. Frank Films (ICFF) with Entertainment One (eOne) in association with CTV and NBC. NBC and G4 are teaming for a fourth season of American Ninja Warrior and the competition show is back on NBC starting May 21 with a two-hour episode at 9p then moves to its regular time period of 9p on May 28.  The series debuts on G4 May 20 at 9p.  A. Smith & Co. Productions produces the fourth season of American Ninja Warrior. 

This spring, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on CBS will shoot episodes in Scotland, host Craig Ferguson’s native country.  The show will film in multiple locations across Scotland and then air the episodes during the week of May 14.  The late-night show airs weeknights on CBS at 1237a following the Late Show with David Letterman.

The premiere date of Katie Couric’s new syndicated talk show Katie is set for September 10.  The talk show, based at ABC headquarters in New York is cleared in more than 93% of all US TV homes.  Jeff Zucker serves as showrunner for the daily show.

New docu-series Eden’s World debuts on Logo April 16 at 10p.  The series follows seven-year-old Eden Wood, who recently retired from the child pageant circuit, and her mother Mickie Wood as the duo attempts to take Eden’s career in the direction of acting, singing and modeling in New York City.  Eden’s World, produced by Go Go Luckey Entertainment, has eight half-hour episodes. 

Summer premiere dates were set for TNT for its roster of original series: season three of Rizzoli & Isles with 10 summer eps debuts June 5 at 9p followed by season two of Franklin & Bash with 10 eps at 10p; the new series Dallas launches with a two-hour premiere June 13 at 9p with 10 total eps over the summer; the second season of Falling Skies debuts with 10 eps June 17 at 9p; new series The Great Escape premieres June 24 at 10p with 10 eps; the final six episodes of the seventh season of The Closer begins July 9 at 9p followed by the new series premiere of Perception at 10p with 10 total eps; the fifth season of Leverage opens July 15 at 8p with 10 summer eps; new series Major Crimes with 10 total eps launches August 13 at 10p following the series finale of The Closer.  Major Crimes will air in its regular time slot of Mondays at 9p. 

On Fridays, E! Entertainment will air weekly encore episodes of NBC’s new series Fashion Star.  Beginning tonight, E! will air Fashion Star’s 90-minute premiere episode at 830p just prior to the network’s weekly comedy series Fashion Police at 10p.  Fashion Star will then air weekly on E! in its regular time slot of 9p Fridays starting March 23. 

In honor of Earth Day next month, BBC America will air the first ever US broadcast premiere of the original Planet Earth series beginning April 21 at 6a with episodes airing through April 22 at 9p.  The airing of the Planet Earth series in its entirety over two days will be followed by the world premiere of the new two-hour special, The Making of Planet Earth on April 22 at 9p.  Planet Earth is narrated by naturalist Sir David Attenborough and is co-produced by BBC/Discovery Channel/NHK co-production, in association with the CBC.

Global entertainment company Shine Group announced a rebrand for its businesses in the US.  As part of the rebrand, Shine Americas, Shine USA and Reveille will merge to form the newly-launched Shine America.

Wednesday’s season two finale of Syfy’s Face Off at 10p delivered 2.46 million total viewers as well as 1.36 million with A18-49 and A25-54 viewers. 

Correction: TLC’s new series Mama’s Boys of the Bronx debuts April 9 at 10p.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

As of June 1, 2012, Entertainment One (eOne) begins a multi-year film distribution deal with Wild Bunch for France.  Wild Bunch will handle home video and digital rights for eOne in the French territory via its direct distribution unit Wild Side.  Furthermore, Wild Side will handle TV sales for eOne’s feature films and eOne Television International will continue its involvement with television content in that territory.  eOne currently operates in the US, the UK, Canada, Benelux, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Scandinavia and South Africa.

The weekly musical variety show, Live from Daryl’s House starring Daryl Hall selected Telco Productions, Inc. as its exclusive television distributor.  Presently, Live from Daryl’s House airs in more than 70% of the US on stations such as WPIX/New York, KTLA/Los Angeles and WGN/Chicago.  Telco is offering the half-hour weekly show on a barter basis, 3.5 minutes local/3.5 minutes national.  All advertising sales are handled by Storrs Media, Inc.

New Dominion Pictures picked up the exclusive worldwide distribution rights to Roadworthy: The Invisible Children Tour, the new series produced by Halogen TV that will premiere on the network in the US on April 15. The series has ten half-hour episodes in hi-def. 

Prior to MIPTV 2012, A+E Networks completed a handful of licensing deals including Pawn Stars picked by Historia (Canada), History TV (Canada), Box Channel (New Zealand), SF1 and SF2 (Switzerland), Sanoma Entertainment (Finland) and SBS Broadcasting (The Netherlands); Dance Moms has been licensed to Lifestyle and Lifestyle You (Australia), Vijf TV (Belgium), Shaw Media (Canada), SBS (Denmark), Sanoma Entertainment (Finland), Zebra (Norway), TVN Style (Poland), Divinity (Spain), Viasat (Sweden and Norway), True Xzyte (Thailand) and HISTORY (UK); Beyond Scared Straight acquired by Spektrum (Czech Republic and Hungary), Sanoma Entertainment (Finland) and Nippon TV (Japan); Storage Wars: Texas picked up by Outdoor Life Network (Canada), Suomi TV (Finland) and SBS Broadcasting (The Netherlands); and Monster In-Laws licensed to Sanoma Entertainment (Finland), Gem TV (Middle East) and TVN Style (Poland).

Independent distributor DRG secured the rights to the family game show Catch Phrase created by Pasetta Productions Inc. and Steven Radosh.  DRG has the worldwide rights to Catch Phrase and is bringing the game show to MIPTV 2012. 

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

TBS is moving forward with the new unscripted competition series King of the Nerds, hosted by stars of the movie Revenge of the Nerds, Robert Carradine and Curtis Armstrong.  TBS approved eight episodes of King of the Nerds which will test nerd competitors in a variety of challenges in the areas of intellect, ingenuity, skills and pop culture.  The participants will first compete as teams then move into individual challenges with one being named master of all things nerdy.  Ben Silverman and Jimmy Fox of Electus are serving as EPs along with Rick Ringbakk, Tod Mesirow and Craig Armstrong of 5X5 Media in addition to Carradine and Armstrong.  The competition show will premiere in early 2013.  Electus International, the worldwide distribution unit of Electus, will distribute the series internationally. 

The cast for USA Network’s new political drama Political Animals tagged Sebastian Stan (Captain American, Gossip Girl) to star opposite Sigourney Weaver, Carla Gugino, James Wolk and Brittany Ishibashi.  Stan will play Thomas “T.J.” Hammond, the son of former First Lady/newly-appointed Secretary of State Elaine Barrish (Weaver) and her ex-husband, the former President Bud Hammond.  T.J. is the polar opposite of his brother, Douglas (Wolk) who is his mother’s chief of staff.  The six-hour Political Animals is from Berlanti Productions and Laurence Mark Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television. 

Lionsgate Television, producer of Showtime’s Weeds, forged a new overall deal with Jenji Kohan.  The new deal has Kohan continuing as showrunner of Weeds as well as become EP for the upcoming Netflix original series Orange Is the New Black.  Production on the Netflix series commences this fall. 

NBC’s comedy Go On starring Matthew Perry added Laura Benanti for the female lead, playing the leader of a support group where Perry’s sportscaster character finds comfort following a loss.

Anna Camp (The Good Wife) lands a role on Mindy Kaling’s FOX comedy pilot playing the former college roommate and best friend of Kaling’s Bridget Jones’-type character, per TVLine.

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis:  FOX held its Wednesday rating supremacy among A18-49 with a 5.4/16, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  FOX’s American Idol led at 8p with a 5.0/16 and CBS was second with Survivor: One World at 3.0/9.  FOX’s American Idol ratings gained during 9p to a 5.9/16 and ABC supplanted CBS at #2 with its comedies Modern Family and Happy Endings at an average of 3.5/9.  CBS moved into the top position at 10p with CSI at 2.8/8 and Univision’s La Que No Podia Amar delivered a second place showing at 1.7/5.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Effective immediately, Jeff Browning becomes SVP/Network Sales with Univision Communications Inc.  Jeff is based in New York and reports to Laura Molen, EVP/Network Sales.  Since last August, Jeff was named SVP/News Sales and Strategy and he will continue in this capacity as well as now heading a national team of sales executives charged with developing advertising and marketing solutions for the Univision, TeleFutura and Galavision networks. 

Greg Siefkin takes on the new position of Director/Sales and Marketing at Deluxe Digital Studios.  Previously for the last two years, Greg worked for Technicolor as VP/Sales, Media Services. 

Correspondent Brian Rooney was tapped to provide occasional reports for CBS News’ broadcasts and platforms.  Brian will continue to report for PBS’ KCET in Los Angeles and prior to joining CBS News, he was a correspondent for ABC News.
