Good Morning, it’s Friday, June 29, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.
Lynn Picard, EVP/GM of Lifetime and President of Lifetime Entertainment Ad Sales, has resigned. According to all reports, the decision was Lynn’s. She had been with Lifetime since 1994. In a statement, Lynn said, “… There comes a time when you look around and say there’s something you want in your career that you don’t think you can get in your current position and you feel ready for a new challenge.” Lynn departs just a couple of months after the sudden departure of network head Betty Cohen and the appointment of Andrea Wong as the new Pres/CEO of the network, and just days after finalizing a multi-million dollar upfront deal with Group M.
Tonight’s Finales:
WE tv: Wife, Mom, Bounty Hunter at 9p
Saturday’s Premieres:
MTV: Super Made at 8p
Sunday’s Finales:
FOX: The Loop at 930p
VH1: Flavor of Love Girls: Charm School at 10p
Bravo premieres two new programs in late July:
- Docu-series Welcome to the Parker on July 26 at 11p following a new episode of Hey Paula at 10p. Welcome to the Parker, a one-hour program produced by snackaholic, chronicles the staff of this posh five-star resort in Palm Springs and the wealthy clientele they serve.
- Bravo gets into the high-stakes real estate game with the second series Flipping Out featuring Los Angeles real estate speculator Jeff Lewis. The series debuts July 31 at 10p and will introduce viewers to Lewis’ colorful personality and a crew of assistants and employees who, even though they often grumble about Lewis’ attitude, make up his dysfunctional “family”. This series is produced by Authentic Entertainment.
ABC Family will bring back Fallen this summer, the story of an 18-year old half angel/half man who encounters another fallen angel – Lucifer. The Fallen Trilogy Weekend begins with a rebroadcast of the two-hour part one August 3 at 8p, which originally aired on the network in July 2006. Then four all-new episodes representing parts two and three will air August 4 and 5 at 8p. Bad Angels Productions in association with ABC Family produced the series.
Court TV presents a new true-life series Bounty Girls starting August 9 at 9p. The nine-episode, one-hour series follows the all-female four-member team and their leader Jim who are employed by the Sunshine State Bail Bonds Agency in Miami. The series is produced by Pilgrim Films & Television.
TLC will add another series to its Thursday night TURBO ON TLC block this fall with Street Customs. The six-episode series is set in the automotive shop of West Coast Customs in Corona, CA owned by Ryan Friedlinghaus. Each episode shows Ryan and his crew building customized street rods or transforming luxury vehicles. The series is produced by Pilgrim Films & Television.
You may not have tuned into Larry King on CNN the other night to hear what post-prison Paris Hilton had to say, but 3.2 million viewers did. That beat the 9p Hannity & Colmes who averaged 1.6 million viewers, and The O’Reilly Factor which drew in 2.6 million viewers. This was the most viewed Larry King telecast since September 21, 2005 when he was airing breaking news of the Jet Blue emergency landing in LA and Hurricane Rita updates. The average Larry King show draws in approx 1.6 million viewers.
Beginning next Monday night in primetime, AmericanLife TV network will have a new line-up of classic TV sitcoms: The Mary Tyler Moore Show at 8p, Newhart at 830p, WKRP in Cincinnati at 9p and The Bob Newhart Show at 930p.
Lifetime Television has greenlit a miniseries project based on The Landry novel series penned by V.C. Andrews. Collaborating on the project will be The Hatchery LLC, an L.A.-based production and marketing company, and producers Michael Jaffe and Howard Braunstein, who produced Lifetime’s recent telefilm Write & Wrong. Familiar with Lifetime’s movies, Janet Brownell has been hired to write this new script as previously she wrote the Lifetime telefilm Nora Roberts’ Angels Fall.
Leading the cast of David E. Kelley’s drama pilot for ABC, Life on Mars, is Jason O’Mara, about a detective who gets transported back to the 1970’s. The project is from 20th TV, David E. Kelley Prods and Kudos Film & Television. In the female lead is Rachelle Lefevre, as a detective in the 1970’s police department. Production is scheduled to begin on August 14.
