ABC rolls out a new eight-part docu-series NY Med beginning July 10 at 10p.  During the course of a year, ABC News’ cameras had access to document the behind-the-scenes daily action at Columbia and Weill Cornell Medical Centers, part of the New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.  The eight episodes follow the surgeons, the ER staff and reveal the sometimes complicated and intertwined relationships of the doctors with each other.  Some of the doctors featured in the series include Dr. Anthony Watkins, Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Tomoaki Kato. 

The 55th Annual Grammy Awards will air live February 10, 2013 on CBS beginning at 8p.  CBS will also air live The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!  Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night on December 5. 

Three women have been selected to represent the inaugural cast of 3, the new relationship series premiering on CBS July 22 at 9p.  The three women, April Francis, Rachel Harley and Libby Lopez will be looking for love during this summer series that kicks off with a 90-minute special premiere episode.  3 is hosted by Alex Miranda and is co-produced by Magical Elves, 1492 Television and Keshet Broadcasting.

Yesterday, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Board of Governors revealed a vote took place to approve a recommendation by the Performers Peer Group and the Primetime Awards Committee to merge the long-form performers’ categories starting with the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards.  This move will combine the leading and supporting performers in a single category under long-form programming.  The consolidated categories now titled Outstanding Actor in a Miniseries or Movie and Outstanding Actress in a Miniseries or Movie will include six nominees each. 

A season five is in store for SHOWTIME’s comedy series Nurse Jackie starring Edie Falco as Jackie Peyton, a strong-willed emergency nurse with many flaws.  In addition, Clyde Phillips will serve as the new show-runner for Nurse Jackie, joining Richie Jackson as executive producer.  Caryn Mandabach is also a series executive producer.  The fifth season of Nurse Jackie will begin production in late 2012.  The series is a co-production of SHOWTIME and Lionsgate. 

A spin-off series of TLC’s Todders & Tiaras titled Here Comes Honey Boo Boo has been approved by the network.  TLC ordered six episodes starring Alana Thompson, the six-year old pageant veteran from Georgia.  TLC will debut the series in August.  Authentic Entertainment is behind this new series as well as Toddlers & Tiaras. 

TLC is bringing back new episodes of D.U.I. starting June 28 at 10p.  The series follows real-life DUI suspects through the various stages after arrest including criminal booking, jail, court appearances and sentencing.  D.U.I airs on Thursdays and TLC will debut two back-to-back half-hour episodes each week for three weeks.  D.U. I. is produced by Mike Mathis Productions, Inc. for TLC.

This summer, South Asian entertainment network, ZEE TV will launch a Premiere of the Month movie series featuring a new Bollywood hit film each month in hi-def.  The films will debut the last Friday of every month at 9p beginning with Don 2 (2011) on June 28 followed by Double Dhamaal (2011) on July 27 and Agneepath (2012) on August 31. 

HISTORY’s miniseries Hatfields & McCoys concluded on Wednesday night by delivering 14.3 million total viewers making it the #1 entertainment telecast ever on ad-supported cable.  The final night of Hatfield & McCoys further posted 6.3 million among A25-54 and 5.1 million with A18-49.  Overall, for the three nights, May 28-30, the miniseries averaged 13.8 million total viewers; 6.0 million A25-54 viewers and 4.9 million with A18-49.

The second season premiere of original comedy Melissa & Joey on ABC Family Wednesday at 8p attracted 409,000 W18-34 viewers; 626,000 W18-49 viewers; and 507,000 among A18-34. 

The season four finale of River Monsters last Monday delivered 1.44 million total viewers and 769,000 among A25-54 for Animal Planet.

Tina Majorino is joining the cast of HBO’s True Blood for the upcoming season in a recurring role.  Majorino will play a support staff member of the Vampire Authority beginning with season five’s third episode.

~ INTERNATIONAL HAPPENINGS ~

From its Canadian Upfront, Bell Media is adding four new programs to the fall schedule of CTV while CTV Two is acquiring three new dramas.  CTV’s new programs include three comedies: Anger Management starring Charlie Sheen; The New Normal; and The Neighbors.  CTV also picked up the drama The Mob Doctor helmed by Jordana Spiro.  CTV Two’s new dramas are Nashville headlined by Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere; Arrow starring Canadian Stephen Amell as a vigilante superhero; and Emily Owens, M.D. Furthermore, six new series will be added in mid-season: The Following starring Kevin Bacon; the Canadian drama Motive; Zero Hour; the Jekyll/Hyde drama Do No Harm; cop drama Golden Boy; and the comedy Family Tools.  

Independent film and documentary distributor, Gravitas Ventures made a pact with Canada’s Shaw Communications, Inc. involving the carriage of Gravitas New Releases Movies on Demand, Gravitas Horror on Demand and Documentaries on Demand VOD packages.  The deal represents approximately 30 hours of new content each month for Shaw. 

On July 9, 2012, Discovery Networks Latin America/US Hispanic, a unit of Discovery Communications will rebrand Liv to become Investigation Discovery, the first and only entertainment network featuring exclusively the suspense, crime and investigation genre in the Latin America region.  Investigation Discovery will serve up fiction series to fact-based dramas and movies.

As of September 4, 2012, Sony Pictures Television Networks announced Hollywood Suite will become the exclusive home of Sony Movie Channel and AXN Movies in Canada.  Both channels will launch as part of Hollywood Suite’s four hi-def movie channels.  Sony Movie Channel will feature selections Sony Pictures’ film library including The Big Chill, Tootsie, To Sir with Love and more while AXN Movies will highlight high-energy movies such as Run Lola Run, Taxi Driver and Ghostbusters among others.

Tuesday A18-49 Analysis:  NBC claimed a win Tuesday with the A18-49 viewers at 2.3/7, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  NBC opened the night at 8p on top with a repeat of America’s Got Talent at 2.1/7 and CBS’ NCIS repeat was next at 1.5/5.  The new edition of America’s Got Talent kept NBC at #1 during 9p with a 3.7/10 and Univision’s Abismo de Pasion was #2 at 1.6/4.  Univision then pivoted into first place at 10p with La Que No Podia Amar at 1.8/5 while a tie occurred for second place between ABC’s 20/20 and CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery rerun at 1.5/4 each.

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis:  FOX danced its way to the top Wednesday with the A18-49 viewers at 2.7/8, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  At 8p, FOX dominated with So You Think You Can Dance at 2.5/8 and the premiere of CBS’ Dogs in the City came in second at 1.3/4.  FOX kept its steady beat through 9p with more So You Think You Can Dance at 2.9/8 and Univision moved into the #2 spot with Abismo de Pasion at 1.5/4.  Univision continued nudging forward topping at 10p with La Que No Podia Amar at 1.8/5 while CBS’ CSI encore was next at 1.5/4.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) Networks has reorganized its senior management structure for its business across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).  Effective immediately, the region will be divided into two portions: Kate Marsh will continue to lead UK and Italy and now Iberia and the Netherlands, Scandinavia and France as SVP/Western Europe. Lyle Stewart was elevated to SVP/CEEMA where he will continue to manage business throughout Germany, Russia, the Baltics and Africa as well as Central Europe as well as now in Turkey, Greece and the Middle East.  Kate and Lyle both report to Andy Kaplan, President, SPT Networks.  Juan Romeu will remain as SVP/GM for Iberia reporting to Kate Marsh while John Rossiter, GM/Central Europe, Sergey Plotnikov, GM/Russia and Bettina Hermann, Territory Director, German Speaking Europe all report to Lyle Stewart. 

Independent media services company, KSL Media added Larry Most as VP/Business Development for its Miami office.  Larry will oversee the expansion of KSL Media’s client roster in the Southeast region of the country.  He reports to Mike Oddi, CMO.
