~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

A 20th season of The Amazing Race revving up on CBS, scheduled to roll out spring 2012.  The 19th installment of The Amazing Race will air this fall on Sundays at 8p.  Seasons 17 and 18 averaged 11.2 million viewers and posted a 3.4/9 rating/share among A18-49. 

Melissa McCarthy (CBS’ Mike & Molly) and Joshua Jackson (FOX’s Fringe), along with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Chairman/CEO John Shaffner will reveal the nominations for the Primetime Emmys on July 14 at 540a.  The Emmys presentation will air live on FOX September 18, hosted by Jane Lynch.

Meredith Vieira’s last Today show appearance as co-host on June 8 propelled NBC to gain more than 6.1 million viewers.  Ann Curry’s first day as co-host on Today June 9 tallied 5.5 million viewers.  In May 2006, 8.4 million tuned in to see Katie Couric’s final farewell on Today. Modern southern belles are the focus of two new one-hour reality series ordered by CMT with both debuting July 14.  Sweet Home Alabama features ten “city slickers” and ten “country” guys battling for the affections of Devin Grissom, a southern girl from Alabama.  The eight-episode series is produced by Glassman Media and premieres at 9p.  Following at 10p, is the series opener of the previously-announced Texas Women, about the lives of four beautiful and sassy women who work and play in Fort Worth, TX.  The eight episode series is produced by 3 Ball Entertainment.

Beginning in July, The Style Network launches a new programming initiative titled Style Exposed serving up documentaries exploring controversial topics and trends.  The documentaries, aimed at the network’s core female audience, will look at relevant topics such as family, personal health and body image among others.  The first documentary in the series airing July 9 at 9p is Baring It All, about four women in their 20s and 30s who are breast cancer survivors and participants in a photographic series, The Scar Project led by New York-based fashion photographer David Jay.  Rounding out the first three documentaries include Born Male, Living Female on July 16 at 9p and Single with 7 on July 23 at 9p.

Newly-appointed NBC station group president, Valari Staab is renaming NBC Local Media to be known as NBC Owned Television Stations, reports B&C.  Staab emphasizes in a memo to NBC employees that the 10 NBC stations should not be referred to as “owned and operated.” Staab further said, “…while the stations are owned by NBC, they are operated by the local management team of each station. Our markets are separate and distinct, and the people running the stations are in the best position to serve the needs of their communities each and every day.”

TV Land presented double premieres Wednesday starting with the summer season opener of Hot in Cleveland at 10p tallying 2.4 million total viewers.  Following at 1030p, the network debuted the new Fran Drescher series Happily Divorced which matched the viewership with another 2.4 million total viewers. 

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

HBO and Darren Star teaming on a comedy project called The Viagra Diaries inspired by the book by Barbara Rose Brooker.  Star is writing the script starring Goldie Hawn as a woman, who after her husband has a mid-life crisis at the age of 65 and leaves her, struggles with being single again for the first time in 35 years.  If the series is picked up to series, this marks the first regular TV series project for Hawn since 1970.  Hawn is executive producing along with Aaron Kaplan and Wendy, Peter and Alan Riche.

Broadway stars John Gallagher Jr. and Thomas Sadoski landed roles on Aaron Sorkin’s drama pilot for HBO titled More As This Story DevelopsJosh Pence was also cast in the drama about cable news anchor Will McCallister (Jeff Daniels) and his show’s staff led by executive producer Mackenzie (Emily Mortimer).  Pence will play a senior producer named Rob; Gallagher will play Jim, who comes to work with Mackenzie on Will’s show where he develops a big crush on an associate producer Maggie (Alison Pill); and Sadoski will play Will’s former executive producer who left to work for Will’s protege’s new show. 

After her ABC primetime series Off the Map was canceled, Caroline Dhavernas cast in USA Network’s new pilot Over/Under.  In the USA pilot, Dhavernas will play a professional photographer who specializes in nude photos and the wife of Paul (Steven Pasquale), a day trader with gambling problems who becomes a high-end bookie in Brooklyn along with Marino (Anthony Carrigan).  Fox TV Studios and Universal Cable Productions are producing the pilot.

Casting Call: FOX’s new series Buried Treasure, premiering August 24 and featuring the world-famous antique experts and authors, Leigh and Leslie Keno, invites families and individuals and their cherished items to an open casting call this Saturday (tomorrow!!) at the Keno Auction offices in New York City from 10a to 6p.  The Keno brothers are looking for people and families who collect antiques, rare valuable items, historical memorabilia, family heirlooms and more.   Interested collectors will need to sign up for the event by sending an email with photos to: [email protected].  Someone from the casting company will contact you and confirm a time for the 18th.

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis:   NBC froze out the competition Wednesday night with a 3.4/11 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  During the 8p hour, FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance and NBC’s NHL Stanley Cup Final #7 tied for first place at 2.7/9 each with Univision’s Teresa in second place at 1.6/5.  NBC was the solo leader at 9p with more of the NHL Stanley Cup final game at 3.5/11 and the second hour of So You Think You Can Dance on FOX next at 2.8/8.  The end of the NHL Stanley Cup at 10p, with the Boston Bruins winning, gave NBC a further boost to 4.0/12 with ABC’s News Special next at 1.6/5.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Norah O’Donnell, the former MSNBC Chief White House Correspondent and Contributing Correspondent for NBC News’ Today and Weekend Today, becomes CBS News’ Chief White House Correspondent.  O’Donnell will further be the principal substitute anchor for CBS News’ Sunday morning public affairs show Face the Nation, in addition to reporting for all CBS News broadcasts and 60 Minutes.

Asher Edwards joins MPC in Los Angeles as an Executive Producer.  Previously, Asher worked for The Mill New York where he was in charged for 3D production for the last five years. 

The Fox Group tapped Stephen Wong as VP/Audience Strategy as part of the company’s goal to reflect diverse voices and perspectives across its programming and business operations.  Audience Strategy is a newly-established department created to identify programming and operational opportunities to enhance diverse points of view.  Stephen will develop and oversee strategic partnerships internally and externally to drive these efforts across the company’s West Coast properties.  He will also find broadcast, cable, digital and film programming possibilities that are relevant to broad audiences.  In his new role, Stephen will report to Nicole A. Bernard, SVP/Audience Strategy. 

Andrew Morse, most recently serving as Executive Producer/Innovation and Integration for ABC News Digital takes on a new position as Head of Bloomberg Television in the US.  Andrew’s scope includes supervising editorial, programming, operations and development in the US.  He will also be involved with Bloomberg’s print, radio, mobile and digital media assets to further streamline the company’s strategy for delivering news, business intelligence, market information and data across numerous real-time platforms.  Andrew will report to Andy Lack, CEO, Bloomberg Media Group.

Effective immediately, BBDO San Francisco hired Ricard Valero as Associate Creative Director.  Ricard joins from DDB Milan in Italy. At BBDO SF, he will be involved with many accounts such as Mars Pets, Vail Resorts, Harrah’s Casino, Goodwill, Gallo and more.  He reports to Mike McKay, Executive Creative Director.

New York City-based Park Avenue Creative Inc., a TV, film and commercial production company, added Caroline Christopher as SVP/Development and Production and Aris Pinedo-Burns as Executive Producer.  Caroline and Aris will manage the development and production of docu-series and reality shows for the company which is affiliated with Park Avenue Post, Inc., a post-production facility also in NYC.  Caroline and Aris will also report to Jason Adler, EVP, Park Avenue Creative, Inc.
