CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Cynopsis: Kids!
07/07/06
Good morning. It’s Friday, July 7, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.
Pointing to the current financial difficulties of several public TV stations, PBS issued a statement yesterday explaining it will not launch PBS Kids Go! Channel as a digital linear channel this October 2006 as previously announced, but will consider launching it some time down the road. Rather the organization is looking into other ways to reach early elementary school kids, which might include a VOD service or some other media platforms. The PBS Kids Go! Channel was to be an expansion of the network’s two-hour afternoon programming block of the same name, which will continue to air on PBS member stations, as will the corresponding website.
Amazon.com officially launches its new Toy and Baby Stores this week, featuring a wide range of toys, games and kid/baby gear within 17 categories from name brands. Amazon continues to host other retailers offering toys on its site including eToys, Babystyle, Discovery Channel Store, and Target. Additionally, Amazon has introduced Baby Registry (www.amazon.com/babyregistry), where folks can register for what they need/want and their pals can log on and find out what they want and buy it for them.
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
NBC will premiere a new live-action adaptation of The Year Without a Santa Claus this holiday 2006. Based on the Rankin-Bass 1974 stop-motion animated holiday special of the same name, the new 2hr version will be filmed in Louisiana and stars John Goodman, Chris Kattan, Ethan Suplee, Eddie Griffin, and Carol Kane. Produced by the Wolper Company in association with Warner Bros. Television, Mark Wolper will serve as executive producer with Ron Underwood (City Slickers, Mighty Joe Young) directing.
