This fall, E! launches a new one-hour docu-series Dirty Soap featuring the real lives of current daytime soap stars. Dirty Soap’s roster of soap celebrities includes Kelly Monaco (ABC’s General Hospital), Nadia Bjorlin (NBC’s Days of Our Lives), Kirsten Storms (ABC’s General Hospital), Farah Fath (ABC’s One Life To Live), JP Lavoisier (ABC’s One Life To Live) and Galen Gering (NBC’s Days of Our Lives). The series is executive produced by Amber Mazzola’s Machete Productions and Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos’ Milojo Productions. The eight-episode series premieres September 25 at 10p.
Upcoming western drama Hell on Wheels opens on AMC November 6 at 10p. Starring Anson Mount, Common and Colm Meaney along with Ben Esler, Philip Burke and Eddie Spears, the plot is set in post-Civil War America about a Confederate soldier Cullen Bohannon (Mount) who seeks revenge for the death of his wife.
From the TV Critics Tour, Real Time with Bill Maher was renewed by HBO for a tenth season. The premium network also revealed several other fall premiere dates: Boardwalk Empire launches season two September 25; season three of Hung and season two of How to Make It in America launch October 2; and season three of Bored to Death debuts October 10 at 9p followed by the new half-hour dramedy Enlightened helmed by Laura Dern at 930p.
Later in August, VH1 rolls out two series:
- La La’s Full Court Life, a docu-series centered on actress/TV personality La La and her NBA player husband Carmelo Anthony as they adjust to newly-married life in New York. Ten half-hour episodes debut August 22 at 9p and are executive produced by Cris Abrego for 51 Minds Entertainment, La La Anthony and Carmelo Anthony for Krossover Entertainment and Steven Grossman for The Collective.
- The T.O. Show opens a third season following Terrell Owens along with Monique and Kita taking on Miami as well as Terrell dealing with his ACL diagnosis, surgery and his post-op recovery. Ten half-hour episodes debut August 22 at 930p produced by Den of Thieves.
This Sunday night, mun2 debuts a new reality series, From Beyond centered on a young psychic, AJ Barrera and two paranormal investigators, Ramiro Ramirez and Christian Vera who search for ghostly activity in Latino communities in Los Angeles. The series opens at 10p.
Litton Entertainment is teaming with Atlanta’s Georgia Aquarium, the world’s largest aquarium on a new half-hour weekly series Ocean Mysteries with Jeff Corwin set to debut on September 3. The series will be part of Litton’s Weekend Adventure programming block containing six new hi-def series airing on Saturday mornings via 95% of ABC affiliates across the country scheduled directly after Good Morning America in most markets. Corwin as host, along with a team of biologists, veterinarians and other experts from the Georgia Aquarium will travel the world exploring oceans and waterways uncovering various aquatic animals and how important they and the oceans are to our life on earth.
Cineflix International Distribution picked up the international distribution rights to Leeds, UK-based Daisybeck Productions’ A Gypsy Life For Me. The one-hour series has eight episodes and follows a group of colorful people involved in significant events in the gypsy calendar.
Production started this week in New York on a new six-episode Food Network primetime series Rachael vs. Guy Celebrity Cook-Off (wt). Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri will coach and mentor eight food-passionate celebrities, divided into Team Rachael and Team Guy, as they tackle weekly food-related challenges as they race against the clock to create sophisticated meals for up to 150 guests. The winning and losing teams will be selected by guest diners and between two bottom-rated contestants from the losing team with one member sent home each week. The remaining celebrity left at the end of the season will win a cash donation to their favorite charity. Celebrities tapped for the show include Summer Sanders, Lou Diamond Phillips, Aaron Carter, Joey Fatone, Taylor Dayne, Coolio, Cheech Marin and Alyssa Campanella. Food Network will premiere the series January 1 at 9p. Jane Street Entertainment is producing.
BBC America approved its first original scripted drama series, Copper with production beginning this fall in Toronto. Copper with ten episodes is about a young Irish cop working within the Five Points Irish immigrant neighborhood of New York City in the 1860’s. The project is co-created by Tom Fontana (OZ, St. Elsewhere) and Will Rokos (Monster’s Ball, Southland). Executive producers include Fontana, Rokos, Barry Levinson and Christina Wayne. Copper is slated to premiere on BBC America in summer 2012 and is a production of Cineflix Studios in association with Levinson/Fontana.
The anticipated season five of AMC’s Mad Men begins production August 8. The season will premiere next year.
Reportedly, Patricia Clarkson landed the role of Tammy 1, the scary ex-wife of Ron (Nick Offerman) on NBC’s Parks and Recreation, cites TVLine. The character was seen from behind in the last season’s finale episode. Clarkson who is known for her film roles, did appear as a love interest in five episodes of Frasier.
Annabelle Gurwitch made a deal with Lifetime to develop a scripted comedy based on the book, You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up, she co-authored with her husband, Jeff Kahn. Gurwitch also finalized a development deal with Nick Jr. to create a talk show format for moms. Furthermore, Gurwitch continues as the co-host of TBS’ Dinner and a Movie franchise.

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis: FOX took over Wednesday by winning with a 2.1/7 among the A18-49 viewers, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. CBS ruled the 8p hour with Big Brother at 2.4/8 and FOX swung into second place with So You Think You Can Dance at 2.1/7. At 9p, it was NBC’s turn to shine as America’s Got Talent delivered a 2.8/8 while the second hour of FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance came next at 2.2/7. NBC’s Love in the Wild finished first during 10p at 1.6/5 and Univision’s La Rose de Guadalupe was #2 at 1.2/4.

Hanna Gryncwajg joins RLTV in their advertising sales department as SVP. Hanna, who previously was the Chief Revenue Officer at Plum TV, will head all advertising sales, content creation and strategic sales initiatives for RLTV and RL.TV and other related sales operations.
Rick Sackheim elevated to EVP/Promotion with Island Def Jam Music Group where he will manage the complete Mainstream Top 40, Rock, Alternative, Rhythmic/Crossover and Adult formats. Rick will report to Steve Bartels, President/COO, Island Def Jam Music Group.
Effective immediately, Bryce Townsend takes on the new role as CEO of GroupM Entertainment & Sports Partnerships (ESP). Bryce is presently EVP/GM, North America for GroupM ESP and in his new advanced position succeeds Greg Luckman who is departing the company to join CAA Sports, a division of Creative Artists Agency in a senior level position. Based in New York, Bryce will report to Rob Norman, CEO, GroupM North America.
Millennium Sales & Marketing, a unit of the Katz Television Group upped Ryan Anzalone, Laura Heinrich and Dan Raymond to VPs/Sales Managers all in Chicago.
AMC announced Glen Mazzara, writer and executive producer on the network’s drama The Walking Dead will now become showrunner. The network further said discussions with executive producer, writer and pilot director Frank Darabont are ongoing about his future role with the series. Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead novels and also executive producer and writer on the TV series will continue in his role. Gale Anne Hurd will also remain on board as executive producer. The series further continues on schedule in time for its October 16 premiere date.
Esteban Creste tapped by FOX Deportes as Executive News Producer to oversee the Mexico bureau. Esteban will lead editorial content and production of the network’s two daily programs, Cronica and Sin Codigos. He will further be involved with original news content and the expansion of the network’s news coverage on FOXDeportes.com.
Former Lifetime Television Networks executive Jeffrey Schneider joins NBCUniversal in the newly-minted role as EVP/Business Affairs, Entertainment and Digital Networks and Integrated Media (E&DN/IM). Jeffrey will manage all business affairs encompassing talent and production negotiations, program acquisitions and new business agreements for the E&DN/IM division which includes Telemundo, Bravo Media, mun2, Oxygen Media and Style as well as iVillage, DailyCandy, Swirl and Fandango. Jeffrey is based in Los Angeles and reports to Salil Mehta, NBCUniversal COO/CFO, E&DN/IM.
Dave Ehlers advances to President of Optimedia US, a division of ZenithOptimedia Worldwide and part of Publicis Groupe SA. In his new role, Dave follows Antony Young who is exiting the firm to take on a new executive position at GroupM. Dave continues to report to Tim Jones, CEO, ZenithOptimedia North America.
Phil Cowdell appointed Chairman of Mindshare North America, a new position within the GroupM media services agency. Previously, Phil was CEO of Mindshare North America since 2009. Antony Young will join the agency this fall to become CEO of Mindshare. Phil and Antony’s positions become effective in October and both will report to Dominic Proctor, CEO Mindshare Worldwide.
McCann Worldgroup announced organizational changes at MRM: Bill Kolb will become CEO of MRM while Marc Landsberg, who joined the firm last year in the dual position of CEO of MRM and President/Corporate Business Development for McCann Worldgroup, will now concentrate solely on oversight of McCann Worldgroup’s corporate strategic development and acquisition efforts. After the executive transition to Bill Kolb takes place, Marc will serve as Non-Executive Chairman of MRM.
Effective immediately, New York-based Gotham promoted CMO Nick Johnson and Managing Director Lyle Tick as Co-Presidents. The company’s CCO Marty Orzio and Director/Strategy Alan Snitow will continue in their roles working in tandem with Nick and Lyle.
Mark Rosenthal, CEO of Current TV is departing the network and Joel Hyatt, Co-Founder will replace Mark immediately. A spokesperson for the network said Mark’s exit from Current TV was a mutual agreement between him and the network. Mark has served as CEO of Current since 2009 joining from MTV Networks where he was President/COO.
Previous FOX executive Noel Siegel becomes SVP/Television Development at Next Entertainment, the Warner Horizon Television-based production company of Mike Fleiss, creator of The Bachelor franchise and other reality TV shows. Reporting to Mike Fleiss, Noel will manage all facets of television development for Next Entertainment including the creation of new content aimed at broadcast networks and cable.
