CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Cynopsis: Kids!
07/21/06
Good morning. It’s Friday, July 21, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.
Columbia Pictures will release the 22nd James Bond movie on May 2, 2008. The new Bond adventure stars Daniel Craig as 007 in his second outing as Bond. Craig’s first movie Bond movie, Casino Royale, is slated for release this November. Eon Productions did not offer any story information for the next movie. The Bond movies are produced by Eon Production’s Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, MGM Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Wilson and Broccoli say Craig’s portrayal of Bond goes back to author Ian Fleming’s original character, a darker and edgier 2007.
Marvel Studios has tapped up-and-coming director Louis Leterrier to helm the new feature film adaptation of The Incredible Hulk, which of course is based on the Marvel super hero. Leterrier will make an appearance at Comic Con tomorrow. Zak Penn, who previously collaborated with Marvel on X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand, is writing the script. The Hulk will be produced by Avi Arad, Kevin Feige and Gale Ann Hurd, with Michael Helfant and Ari Arad serving as executive producers. Casting for the movie will begin soon. The movie will be released by Universal and nope, there is no word yet on a release date.
The producers of CG animation/live-action series Shoebox Zoo, Claire Mundell and Justin Molotnikov, have set up their own production shingle, Synchronicity Films in Scotland. Synchronicity Films already has several TV programs and some five feature films in different stages of development. Among the movie properties are a possible movie version of Shoebox Zoo, and a mixed CG animation/live-action movie based on the TV series The Brotherhood of the Book.

EXECUTIVE MOVES
Rainmaker, a Canadian effects/CG animation studio, will merge with Mainframe Animation, also a Canadian visual effects/CG animation studio, by acquiring the remaining shares of Mainframe from two entities, in two separate deals. In the first deal, Rainmaker will purchase IDT Entertainment’s 62% interest in Mainframe for $12.1 million US. Following the completion of the IDT deal, expected to close July 31, Rainmaker will acquire Working Opportunity Fund Ltd’s 13% stake in Mainframe. Rainmaker’s new CEO, Warren Franklin and Rick Mischel, currently CEO of Mainframe, will head up the combined studios. Rainmaker is a subsidiary of Rainmaker Income Fund.
Warren Franklin has been appointed CEO/Trustee, Rainmaker effective immediately. Franklin, who up until now had been President/Rainmaker Animation & Visual Effects, takes over for Mark Prior who stepped down as CEO/trustee in order to pursue other interests. Prior will serve as a consultant through the completion of the Mainframe acquisition. Previously, Franklin has toiled in senior management roles for Lucasfilm Ltd., Colossal Pictures, Cinesite/Kodak, and Pinnacle Studios. At LucasFilm he created the Lucasfilm Entertainment Group and served as Group VP, overseeing its six divisions, including Industrial Light & Magic, LucasArts Entertainment and Skywalker Sound. Barry Chambers will remain in his post as President/Rainmaker LP. Similarly, Cheryl Nex and David Carter will continue in their roles of President of EP Canada Limited Partnership and Canada Film Capital Limited Partnership, respectively.
Nintendo of America has upped Steve Singer to VP/Latin American operations. Singer, who was Senior Director/General Manager for Latin America, will continue to oversee Nintendo’s strategic direction in the region.
