HISTORY received 17 nominations with its western miniseries Hatfields & McCoys receiving the lion’s share of 16 noms.

Hearst Television Inc. and Time Warner Cable have reached a retransmission consent agreement which ends their dispute.  Stations and markets that will have their Hearst-owned affiliates restored include: KETV/Omaha; KITV/Honolulu; KMBC-KCWE/Kansas City; WCVB/Boston (Manchester); WESH-WKCF/Orlando; WISN/Milwaukee; WLKY/Louisville; WLWT/Cincinnati; WMOR/Tampa; WMTW/Portland, ME; WMUR/Boston (Manchester); WPTZ/Burlington-Plattsburgh; WTAE/Pittsburgh; and WXII/Greensboro-Winston Salem.  Hearst Television President/CEO David Barrett said, “We appreciate the support and patience of our viewers, advertisers and local communities served by our stations, and we regret the inconvenience they’ve experienced over the past 10 days.  This process has been an important step to insure the ongoing vitality of our local TV service in communities across the country.”

In later September, a third season of VOCES will premiere on PBS in conjunction with Latino Public Broadcasting.  VOCES is a national Latino arts and culture docu-series highlighting the diversity within the Latino culture.  The series debuts September 28 and will air on four consecutive Friday nights at 10p (check local listings).

White-collar crime is the focus of American Greed: The Fugitives, a new spin-off series debuting on CNBC August 1.  The series will spotlight criminals who masterminded elaborate schemes to bilk funds from duped investors and end up evading capture.  Actor Stacy Keach narrates the series which will air on Wednesdays with the first two episodes opening August 1 at 8p and repeating at 9p and 12a.  The subsequent five episodes will continue on Wednesdays at 9p and 12a.  The series is produced exclusively for CNBC by Kurtis Productions.

TLC follows the 21-member Bates family in its upcoming new series, United Bates of America premiering August 13 at 9p.  The series features Gil and Kelly Jo Bates and their 19 children ranging in ages of six-months to 23 years old.  Viewers will be familiar with the Bates family as they appeared in several episodes of 19 Kids and Counting, the TLC series that highlighted the extra large clan of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.  United Bates of America, with eight half-hour episodes, is produced by Figure 8 Films for TLC.

Releasing a revised lowered projection, GroupM predicts a 5.1% increase in global advertising spending in measured media in 2012 or $506.3 billion. This figure is down from the 6.3% increase ($522 billion) forecast by GroupM in late 2011.  GroupM cites the uncertain economies in both Europe and the US as the reason for the not-quite-so-optimistic figures.  GroupM’s forecast was included in its biannual worldwide report, This Year, Next Year.  The 70-country forecast additionally points to a global ad spend of 5.3% in 2013 or $533.2 billion.  In the US, the report indicates advertising investment in measured media is expected to increase by 3.6% this year for a total of $152.5 billion, down slightly from the previous prediction of 4% issued in December 2011.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Six series on HGTV were granted extended production schedules.  New episodes were ordered for Elbow Room starring contractor Chip Wade; I Want That, a series that calls out home trends and over-the-top innovations; Million Dollar Rooms, hosted by Carter Oosterhouse; Going Yard led by landscape expert Chris Lambton and his wife Peyton Lambton; and Kitchen Cousins helmed by Anthony Carrino and John Colaneri as they remodel badly designed kitchens and transform them into beautiful cooking spaces.  HGTV further picked up four special one-hour episodes of Celebrities at Home featuring entertainment reporter and series EP Nancy O’Dell touring celebrity homes.

ABC’s primetime soap Revenge cast Jennifer Jason Leigh for its second season to play the recurring role of Emily Thorne’s mysterious mother.  Much anticipation as to which actress would land this role surrounded the show and has resulted in a guessing game for fans of the show.

Also on ABC, True Blood’s Camilla Luddington was tapped for a recurring role on the ninth season of Grey’s Anatomy.  Luddington will play a young doctor with an option to return as a series regular during season ten.

Former The Nine Lives of Chloe King star Grace Phipps is joining The CW’s The Vampire Diaries in the recurring role as April.  Phipps is slated to first appear in the show’s second episode.

Yesterday, reports indicate PBS removed actor Fred Willard from its recently-announced show Market Warriors following Willard’s arrest in Hollywood Wednesday night.  Mark Wahlberg, host of Antiques Roadshow will now be the voice on Willard’s episodes.  Willard has not been tried or convicted of an offense.

Answer to Our Last Trivia Question: On Bewitched, what was Samantha’s maiden name? The show never mentioned her last maiden name. Endora once replied that her last name was unpronounceable, but we don’t know if she was referring to a married name or her surname. There is a book that reports Samantha’s maiden name is Dobson, but once again, it was never mentioned on the show itself.
