Next month, Travel Channel visits the Show Me State when Truck Stop, Missouri launches on August 3 at 10p. This weekly original docu-series highlights the Midway Truck Stop, a complex for truckers and tourists complete with a dozen separate businesses from a fireworks store to a tattoo parlor located mid-way between Kansas City and St. Louis. The series with 12 half-hour episodes opens with a special one-hour block with back-to-back episodes. Leftfield Pictures produces.
Competition series Top Shot is up for a third round on HISTORY launching August 9 at 10p. The sixteen contestants will face-off in a new battle of history-inspired challenges with the winner taking home a $100,000 prize package and the title of Top Shot. Pilgrim Films & Television produces the series for HISTORY.
Matt Pinfield is back as host of a revamped version of the music series MTV2’s 120 Minutes with Matt Pinfield airing on MTV2 starting July 30 at 1a. Matt Pinfield offers music lovers his perspective on today’s alternative and independent artists in addition to emerging artists appealing to various genres along with exclusive interviews and music videos. The opening episode features Matt’s exclusive interviews with Dave Grohl, PJ Harvey, Kings of Leon, Sleigh Bells, Black Angles and more. Fresh episodes of MTV2’s 120 Minutes with Matt Pinfield will air the last Saturday of each month at 1a and also will be available online via 120.MTV2.com. Fans can also catch Matt in a bi-weekly two-minute segment called 120 Seconds, the web companion series found exclusively on MTV’s new music website, MTV Hive.
Wednesday’s series launch of Lifetime’s new docu-series Roseanne’s Nuts starring Roseanne Barr attracted 1.6 million total viewers as well as 863,000 among A18-49 and 842,000 with A25-54. The half-hour show, following Barr as she manages a 40-acre macadamia and live stock farm in Hawaii, has become Lifetime’s fourth most-watched unscripted series launch in its history with total viewers, A18-49 and A25-54.
ION Television made a first-run broadcast rights deal with Starz Media, LLC involving six theatrical titles. The titles will air as part of ION’s Big Movie Weekend and will air exclusively on the network’s schedule starting this November through 2013. The half-dozen titles from Anchor Bay Films and Overture Films owned by Starz Media include Traitor, City Island, Solitary Man, The Visitor, A Nanny for Christmas and The Open Road.
NBC tapped singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles as the third celebrity judge on The Sing-Off joining other judges Ben Folds and Shawn Stockman. Bareilles replaces former judge Nicole Scherzinger who will soon appear on FOX’s The X Factor. Bareilles had appeared during season two of The Sing-Off as a guest performer. The Sing-Off debuts its full-season on September 19 at 8p.
Kal Penn is donning the actor’s hat again as he joins CBS’ How I Met Your Mother in a major recurring role. Penn left the acting world two years ago to take a position in President Obama’s White House as an associate director in the office of public liaison. On the CBS sitcom, Penn will play a possible love interest for Robin (Cobie Smulders).

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis: NBC won by a narrow margin Wednesday night at 2.0/6 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. CBS’ Big Brother was in charge at 8p with 2.6/9 and FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance was #2 at 2.0/7. NBC jumped ahead of the pack during 9p with America’s Got Talent at 3.0/9 and FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance remained in second place at 1.9/6. NBC stayed in first place at 10p with Love in the Wild at 1.6/5 though CBS’ CSI encore was a mere tenth of a rating point behind at 1.5/5.

Syfy and Chiller promoted Ted A’Zary to SVP/Research for both networks. Ted is charged with heading a combined research team focused on Syfy and Chiller, reporting to Dave Howe, President, Syfy and Chiller. Additionally, Susan Lape advanced to VP/Primary Research where she will spearhead Syfy’s pilot testing and original series development research. Susan reports to Ted A’Zary. Ted and Susan are based at the New York office of Syfy and Chiller.
USA Network and Sleuth elevated Ted Linhart to SVP/Research and Stacey Marmor Balaban to VP/Digital and Sales Research. Ted will continue to manage USA and Sleuth’s ratings and multi-platform metrics and his scope will now include primary, sales and digital/new media areas encompassing qualitative and quantitative research for both networks. Stacey will exclusively head USA’s sales and digital research team working to strategically position the network’s brands in the advertising marketplace and measure the results of integrated sponsorships. Ted and Stacey both are based in New York with Ted reporting to Chris McCumber and Jeff Wachtel, Co-Presidents, USA and Stacey reporting to Ted Linhart.
Elizabeth Cole appointed Executive Producer of NBC News’ Dateline NBC effective immediately. Elizabeth previously had served as Executive Editor of Dateline. In her new role, Elizabeth will supervise the production of Dateline working in tandem with David Corvo who was recently named Senior Executive Producer of Dateline and the upcoming new NBC News primetime newsmagazine show. She will also work closely with Dateline’s anchor Ann Curry and the team of correspondents and producers.
Dan Hofstadter joined BBDO San Francisco as Associate Creative Director (ACD), starting immediately. Dan, along with fellow ACD Ricard Valero, will work on a variety of accounts including Masterfoods, Vail Resorts, Harrah’s Casino, Goodwill, Henkel and more. Dan reports to Mike McKay, Executive Creative Director.
Media Storm appointed Jose Diaz as Associate Managing Director/Strategic Planning for the company’s transactional team. Jose reports to Chad Urice, Managing Director and is based in South Norwalk.
Tom Donnelly was elevated to VP/Eastern Sales with The CW where he will oversee accounts including national advertisers, agencies and clients located on the East Coast. Tom has been with The CW since it launched and he reports to Brian Doherty, SVP/National Sales.
