NBC executives have reportedly met with Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien, discussing what to do with NBC’s late-night time slots and The Jay Leno Show at 10p. NBC executives would not confirm any final decisions nor deny a report touted by the website TMZ and others outlets suggesting the network is considering cancelling Leno’s primetime show and returning him to his old job as host of The Tonight Show, potentially leaving Conan out in the cold. Alternatively, rumors suggest Jay could get the 1130p slot, and Conan could get the midnight slot.  NBC has released a statement saying they are committed to The Jay Leno Show and to Conan O’Brien.  The network has admitted they underestimated the negative impact sustained by affiliates’ 11p local newscasts nationwide as a result of Leno’s low primetime show ratings.

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

FOX announced it will not premiere its new primetime game show Our Little Genius as planned on January 13. Two statements were released regarding the network’s decision, the first from producer Mark Burnett:

“I recently discovered that there was an issue with how some information was relayed to contestants during the pre-production of Our Little Genius. As a result, I am not comfortable delivering the episodes without re-shooting them. I believe my series must always be beyond reproach, so I have requested that FOX not air these episodes.”

The second statement is from Fox network:

“Mark Burnett is one of the pre-eminent producers of unscripted programming on television. Even though we were incredibly pleased with the quality of Our Little Genius, we respect and appreciate his due diligence and the decision to pull these episodes. We agree there can be no question about the integrity of our shows. While these episodes will not air, the families who participated in the show will receive their winnings, and we are grateful for their participation.”

Instead, FOX will air an encore of The Simpsons 450th episode January 13 at 930p following an expanded episode of American Idol at 8p. On January 19, FOX will air a repeat of the Human Target pilot at 9p after American Idol at 8p.

The series, shot on location in Toronto, also stars Christopher Gorham, Peter Gallagher, Kari Matchett and Anne Dudek.

David Hasselhoff is leaving NBC’s America’s Got Talent after four years of appearing as one of the celebrity judges, saying he is interested in a show of his own. NBC has not replaced Hasselhoff as of yet and the talent competition show returns for a fifth season next summer.

Friday Fun Fact:  While filming the popular 90s television series Baywatch, its cast and crew went through 306 pounds of body makeup and one 50-gallon drum of sunscreen each season.  Okay, that’s kinda gross.

This day in History:  1929 – William S. Paley appeared on CBS Radio for the first time to announce that CBS had become the largest regular chain of broadcasting chains in radio history.

Answer to Yesterday’s Trivia Question: This commercial ran just once – on September 7, 1964.  Created by Doyle Dane Bernbach, it was greenlit by democrat Bill Moyers for use promoting President Lyndon Johnson’s re-election campaign.  What was the “name” of this controversial ad?  THE DAISY AD or PEACE, LITTLE GIRL designed to create the sense that should Presidential candidate Barry Goldwater win the office, a nuclear war could be in our future. Kudos to: peter Gauieri-Lifetime/NY; Bob Brewer-Opus 3 Artists/NY; Michael O’Gara/NY; Anne Kissel Elliot-ET Consulting/Palm City; Scott Renshaw-KXUN/Fort Smith; Mary Brannen-Merriam-Webster Inc, Encyclopedia Britannica/Chicago; Dan Whitford-MaximumDirect/Chicago; Dory Melman Petsrillo-Petry Media/Dallas; Lee Toft-Mike Mathis Prods/Pasadena; Bob Ramsey-KTXL/Sacramento; Frank Hagan-Circa Pictures/Beverly Hills; Adam Harman-Style Network/LA;

Today’s Trivia Question:  Who do all of these TV series have in common?  Centennial, McKenna, The Dakotas, Melrose Place and Manhattan AZ?    (Email [email protected] with your answer and be sure to include your name, company, city and time zone. Unofficial rules: Only the second four correct answers from each time zone will be mentioned; and once you’ve been mentioned in any of the Cynopsis editions, you can’t be mentioned again that calendar week.)
