A new Discovery Channel series, All Star Dealers delves into vintage and valuable baseball memorabilia. All Star Dealers premieres January 24 at 8p and features Richie Russek and his two sons, the owners of Grey Flannel Auctions. The threesome sort through hundreds of items they receive each day in hopes of finding real historic treasures. Fly on the Wall Productions produces the series for Discovery Channel.
Starting next month, MSNBC will increase its weekend programming. Current MSNBC contributor Melissa Harris-Perry will lead a new program airing on Saturdays and Sundays from 10a-noon, beginning February 4. Chris Hayes will continue to open the cable news network’s weekend lineup with his show Up from 8-10a on Saturdays and Sundays. Furthermore, Alex Witt will expand live news coverage for MSNBC in the morning and the afternoon with Weekends with Alex Witt airing for one hour on Saturdays at 7a and a two-hour block from noon-2p on both Saturdays and Sundays.
The Style Network wants to help viewers get organized in the New Year with its new docu-series The Amandas which airs starting January 30 at 8p. Amanda LeBlanc heads a team of young organizers to create functional living spaces. The Amandas is produced by Pink Sneakers Productions.
This year VH1’s schedule will not include Dr. Drew Pinsky’s shows Celebrity Rehab and the spin-off Celebrity Rehab Presents Sober House. Criticism aimed at both shows surfaced last year following the deaths of two former celebrity participants including actor Jeff Conaway and musician Mike Starr. VH1 may bring back the shows at some future point and will launch a series titled Relationship Rehab which focuses on repairing struggling relationships.
The nation’s first over-the-air broadcast TV network for African-Americans, Bounce TV is launching its first big on-air promotion campaign this month under the umbrella TV Our Way. The campaign is designed to reinforce the network’s programming aim of African-American programming for an African-American audience and will highlight Kevin Hart, Gabrielle Union and Regina Hall, the stars of the upcoming Screen Gems/Rainforest Films motion picture Think Like a Man. The trio of stars taped promotion segments for the campaign in addition to Bounce TV’s tribute to Black History Month in February. In addition, Hart taped promos for the network’s new Brown Sugar Saturday Night weekly primetime franchise which begins this Saturday showcasing popular African American movies from the 1970s such as Shaft, Cleopatra Jones, The Mack and Super Fly.
For the eighth consecutive year, Animal Planet presents its cute alternative to the Super Bowl when Puppy Bowl VIII returns on February 5 from 3p to 5p. The network teams with Petfinder.com and uses puppies from animal shelters across the nation for its canine gridiron action. This year, Puppy Bowl adds Dan Schachner as “The Ref” who calls the plays and penalties on the field. Also new for this year, there will be a piggy pep squad and viewers can follow Meep the Bird tweets. Jill Rappaport also offers sideline analysis and game commentary and the Bissell Kitty Half-Time Show is back featuring playful kitties and lots of confetti.
A&E Network delivered 2.9 million total viewers and 1.7 million among A18-49 and A25-54 for the eighth season debut of Dog the Bounty Hunter.

New year, new awards! At the end of 2011, FX picked up the rights to several more theatrical movies giving the network the commercial television rights to Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and We Bought a Zoo. FX additionally acquired the movies The Sitter, Puss in Boots, Real Steel, Immortals, Paranormal Activity 3 and A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas. FX’s recent acquisitions will premiere on the network beginning in 2013 and early in 2014.
Premium entertainment service EPIX launched a new rebranded channel for DISH Network viewers called EPIX Drive-In. As of January 1, EPIX Drive-In will be part of DISH Network’s America’s Top 250 package with select titles also available via on demand and online to authenticated DISH subscribers at EpixHD.com and Dishonline.com. EPIX Drive-In (formerly called The 3 from EPIX) will highlight action, comedy, sci-fi and horror movies of the 1970s, 80s and 90s and beyond. Additionally, subscribers to DISH’s Blockbuster Movie Pass will have access to a new channel named EPIX 3. The new channel allows viewers to see Hollywood blockbusters in hi-def as well as comedy and music specials and other titles from the large EPIX library.
A deal is nearly finalized involving The CW acquiring the Canadian series The L.A. Complex about a group of young people living in the same apartment complex and trying to make it in Hollywood. The series is described as similar to Melrose Place. The CW picked up six episodes of the series and may opt to expand the order by another 7 episodes for a total of 13 eps. The CW would run The L.A. Complex during the summer.

Tuesday A18-49 Analysis: In a night filled with original episodes, CBS gained the advantage with A18-49 viewers Tuesday at 3.4/9, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. Starting out, CBS easily won the 8p hour with NCIS at 4.1/11 while NBC’s new season launch of The Biggest Loser and the average of ABC’s comedies Last Man Standing and the new debut of Work It tied for #2 at 2.2/6 each (Work It posted a 2.0/5 at 830p). CBS won again at 9p with NCIS: Los Angeles at 3.5/8 and NBC’s The Biggest Loser remained in second at 2.4/6 and ABC followed with the premiere of Celebrity Wife Swap at 2.1/5. CBS chalked up a third primetime win at 10p with Unforgettable at 2.6/7 and NBC continued in the second slot with Parenthood at 1.7/4 and ABC trailed in third with Body of Proof at 1.5/4.

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis: ABC was the victor Wednesday winning with a 3.3/9 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. ABC topped at 8p with its comedies The Middle and Suburgatory at an average of 3.0/9 and I Get That A Lot on CBS came next at 2.3/6. ABC surpassed the competition at 9p with sitcoms Modern Family and Happy Endings at an average of 4.5/11 and a rerun of Criminal Minds on CBS followed at 2.0/5 and Univision’s La Que No Podia Amar was a close third at 1.9/5. At 10p, ABC was #1 again with Revenge at 2.5/7 and CBS stayed in second place with a CSI encore at 1.7/5.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~
Chelle Lews joins Lead Generation Technologies to head the media acquisition team as VP/Media. She will spearhead media acquisition for TV, radio, internet and new media and will report to Preston Haglin, Managing Director.
Gracie Mercado advances to Director/Human Resources at the YES Network where she will supervise all facets of the network’s HR duties including employee relations, compensation and benefits and recruitment.
Three executives were hired at A&E Network to strengthen its programming team. Joining the East Coast non-fiction programming group are Drew Tappon as VP/Non-Fiction and Alternative Programming; Brad Holcman as Senior Director/Non-Fiction and Alternative Programming; and Nicole Reed as Director/Non-Fiction and Alternative Programming. All three will be charged with developing new non-fictions series for the network and to further manage several current series for the network while reporting to Elaine Frontain Bryant, SVP/Non-Fiction and Alternative Programming at A&E.
Amy Coleman was tapped as Executive Producer for CBS Television Distribution’s new syndicated first-run talk show Jeff Probst. Amy was a consulting producer on the show’s pilot and has been a former supervising producer for The Oprah Winfrey Show.
30-year veteran at the National Weather Service, Thomas Niziol joins The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC) as its new winter weather expert. Thomas will be the main source of meteorological content, expertise and analysis for winter weather conditions. He would be featured during winter weather coverage on The Weather
Channel and also contribute his knowledge via the company’s digital platforms.
NBCUniversal named Adam Stotsky as GM of G4, effective immediately. Adam will oversee all areas at G4 including programming, development, production, marketing, press and publicity and digital operations while reporting to Bonnie Hammer, Chairman, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment and Cable Studios.
