Cynopsis: Kids!
01/29/10
Good morning. It’s Friday, January 29, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Disney Studios officially shutters the doors of indie movie studio Miramax. In October 2009 Disney announced a restructuring of Miramax, which was found by brothers Harvey and Bob Weinstein in 1979 and acquired by Disney in 1993, including reducing the number of annual film releases, the consolidation of certain operations into Disney Studios, and that Daniel Battsek would leave his post as President, Miramax effective January 2010. In addition to the many popular movies released by Miramax (Pulp Fiction, The English Patient, Good Will Hunting, Shakespeare in Love, The Queen, There Will Be Blood, No Country For Old Men, etc.), the studio also released a handful of kid/family movies, including Ella Enchanted, several Pokemon and Bionicle movies, and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. The Weinstein’s established their new company, The Weinstein Company, in 2005 after leaving Miramax.
