More networks are gearing up for Britain’s Royal Wedding on April 29 with specials and documentaries:

  • BBC America, “the home of the Royal Wedding” tapped Cat Deeley to host and produce Royally Mad, an original two-part special prior to the Royal Wedding.  Part one airs April 12 at 10p with part two a week later on April 19 at 10p.
  • Next month, Ovation will air the US premiere of William and Kate: A Modern Romance on February 9 at 830p.  The documentary is one component of the network’s week-long programming stunt called The Royals which will include: Icons: Diana on February 9 at 8p; Princess Diana: Her Life in Jewels on February 12 at 9p; and Diana Everlasting on February 12 at 10p. Also this week, Ovation will air the US premiere of Royal Opulence, a documentary commenting on the style and decadent lives of royal families on February 10 at 8p followed by a special behind-the-scenes look at the making of The King’s Speech at 830p and the film Bertie and Elizabeth at 9p.
  • Wedding Central will launch its first original project, a one-hour special William & Kate: The Wedding of the Century.  Co-produced with UK independent company, Twofour Broadcast and co-funded and distributed globally by DRG, the special will debut as part of the network’s week-long celebration of the royal wedding the week prior to the event.
  • Lifetime has a movie in the works about how Prince William fell in love with Kate, the beautiful commoner. The movie, slated to air prior to the Royal Wedding, will deal with William and Kate’s friendship which developed into the romantic love affair, the engagement and the anticipated Royal Wedding.  Nico Evers-Swindell (NCIS: Los Angeles) will play Prince William and Ben Cross (Chariots of Fire) will play Prince Charles.  Production begins next month.

Time Warner Cable is providing its Digital customers a chance to view this year’s Academy Award nominated films via its Movies On Demand service under the Awards Season category.  The Awards Season category will be available through mid-March and includes the titles Inception, The Kids Are Alright, Toy Story 3, Winter’s Bone, How To Train Your Dragon, Exit Through the Gift Shop, The Town and The Social Network will be available starting February 2.

Cablevision Systems Corp. added FOX Soccer Channel and FOX Soccer Plus to its free hi-def roster of networks.

Syfy cast Luke Pasqualino (Skins UK) and Ben Cotton (Hellcats, Riese) for its Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome two-hour pilot.  The series depicts the tenth year of the first Cylon war, the battle between humans and a sentient robot race.  Pasqualino will portray the young fighter pilot, William Adama who joins the newest Battlestar in the Colonial fleet, the Galactica.  Cotton plays Adama’s battle-weary superior officer.  Universal Cable Productions is producing.

Will Ferrell is joining NBC’s The Office this season for a four-episode arc, playing a branch manager who comes from the home office who is just as incompetent as Michael Scott.

Page Productions and Sloane Cooper Development are partnering on the development and production of non-fiction programming.  Page Productions is behind such shows as Food Networks’ Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, Outrageous Food and Tailgate Warriors and is currently in production on a pilot for Spike TV.  SCD’s productions include A&E’s crime series Bloodwork, a dream house series for DIY Network and various projects for Discovery Channel, National Geographic and TLC.

Investigation Discovery gave an order to New Wave Entertainment for Cleaning Up, a three-episode docu-series about Neal Smither and his wife Lindy and their company Crime Scene Cleaners.  Matt Ogens developed the concept and he will serve as executive producer with New Wave’s Barry Katz and Brian Volk-Weiss.

Casting Call: Vinnie Potestivo Entertainment and a major cable network are casting for men and women who consider themselves America’s most obsessed Royal Wedding fans; people who are outgoing and passionate about the UK and all things about William and Kate.  Finalists will be flown to London to experience British culture and a tour of Royal locales with a well-known celebrity host.  Candidates must be US citizens, have a valid US passport and be available to travel in February.  To apply, visit TheRoyalWeddingTrip .com . Note: finalists will not be attending the Royal Wedding.  Casting ends February 1 and applicants must be prepared to submit a 5-7 minute video that shows examples of how you are obsessed with the Royal Wedding and what makes you unique.
