Soon after announcing it canceled The Martha Stewart Show, Hallmark Channel is in negotiations with Marie Osmond to host a talk show to replace it.  Osmond is presently starring in a variety show with her famous brother Donny Osmond in Las Vegas and prior to that appeared as a contestant on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars in 2007.  In the recent past, Osmond had considered hosting her own syndicated talk show though the project never came to fruition.  Martha Stewart’s program will end its current and final season on Hallmark Channel in May and reruns of The Martha Stewart Show will air throughout the summer.  Hallmark Channel is also still in discussions with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia about the renewal of MSLO’s other daytime shows running on the network which includes Emeril’s Table and Mad Hungry with Lucinda Scala Quinn.

HGTV has revealed its 2012 series slate with new and returning shows falling into different categories. Competition series include Price This Place airing Thursdays at 8p; White Room Challenge hosted by David Bromstad begins April 24 at 9p; and HGTV Design Star debuts season seven May 29 at 9p.  Design makeover series include Interiors Inc. opening this Saturday at 930p; Beautiful Homes airing Saturdays at 130p; Elbow Room rolls out this May; Auction Queen (wt) begins in July; and Making House premieres in October.  HGTV has two renovation series with Home Wreckers on Sundays at 8p and the premiere of new series Going Yard in April.  Under the real estate category, HGTV will take viewers to London this summer with the premiere of Selling London in July.

Returning for a fourth season, BBC America bows Being Human on February 25 at 9p as part of the network’s Supernatural Saturday.  Being Human is a Touchpaper Television production for the BBC and a BBC America co-production.  BBC America also announced it will co-produce a new edition of its crime drama Luther starring Idris Elba who just won a Golden Globe for Best Actor for the series.  Luther will be a four-part miniseries and will premiere this year as part of the network’s Dramaville.  Luther is a BBC and BBC America co-production and is distributed by BBC Worldwide.

Discovery en Espanol takes viewers inside the secret world of cults, political and spiritual groups and more in Latin America that are rejected and ridiculed for their extremism in the new series Mundos extremos.  The eight-episode docu-reality series premieres February 1 at 10p.  Mundos extremos is an original Discovery en Espanol production in association with Endemol Argentina.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

The Shalom TV Video On Demand network, currently in 43 million US and Canadian homes, launched its free, 24/7 linear channel, Shalom TV Live.  As it is named, the new channel offers live daily newscasts from Israel, live late-breaking stories and programs that allow viewers to call in and talk to guests.  Shalom TV Live is available for free in hi-def and standard-def.

Signing new agreements with top Pay TV platforms across Europe and Asia, AMC/Sundance Channel Global, AMC Networks’ international unit, said Sundance Channel has secured additional carriage and has launched for the first time in Portugal and other countries.  In late 2011, Sundance Channel launched in Portugal via ZON Multimedia, where the channel is being broadcast in hi-def and offered in Portuguese.  In Belgium, Sundance Channel is now available on the country’s top IPTV service, Belgacom TV.  In Poland, Sundance Channel launched January 1 via the IPTV service, SGT S.A.  In France, Virgin will add Sundance Channel to its Virgin Box.  Also in Spain, the channel made a major deal with Telefonica last year and a hi-def version of the localized channel will launch in mid-January.  In Asia, the channel is launching on Veetime in Taiwan.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

ABC ordered a comedy pilot from Mark Gordon Co. and ABC Studios titled White Man Van.  The comedy adaptation was developed by ITV Studios America based on a BBC3 series about a man who is forced to put his own dreams on hold to take over the family handyman business from his father.  Bobby Bowman is the writer and will be an executive producer with ITV’s Paul Buccieri and Gordon.

CBS is moving forward with two pilot projects: one is a drama pilot titled Widow Detective from CBS Television Studios and Carol Mendelsohn’s production company.  The plot is about a decorated police detective who becomes a surrogate husband, lover and father to the families of three partners he’s lost while on duty.  David Hubbard wrote the pilot and will be an EP with Mendelsohn and Julie Weitz.  CBS’ second pilot is a comedy called Super Fun Night from Conan O’Brien’s Conaco company which will star Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaids).  Super Fun Night is about three female friends who are on a mission to have a “super fun” Friday night each week.  Wilson penned the multi-camera comedy and will additionally serve as co-executive producer; O’Brien, Jeff Ross and Conaco’s David Kissinger are the EPs. Warner Bros. Television is producing.

Since its franchise Dance Moms has proved popular with viewers, Lifetime and Collins Avenue are developing a new docu-series, Ice Moms set in the world of competitive figure skating.  The series will center on figure skating coaches Laurie Vigilante and Adam Schmidt based in Dearborn, Michigan.  Ice Moms will feature the skating duo as they train students who want to be champion skaters and the parents who must also endure the coaches’ rigid attitudes about practice, precision and perfection.  Collins Avenue is behind Lifetime’s Dance Moms and the recently announced Dance Moms: Miami.

Kinetic Content and Calamari Productions have forged a first-look, co-production deal where the two companies will work together on several projects.  Their first project is a non-fiction series titled Parole which will go inside the juvenile parole process and its impact on young people, their families and society.

Former Cheers cast member, Beatrice “Bebe” Neuwirth is joining CBS’ The Good Wife in a recurring role, cites EW.  Neuwirth will play Judge Friend, characterized as a sexy woman with a stern demeanor who has little patience with joking around.

Casting Call:  ABC’s The Revolution is looking for women who have experienced a partner, sibling, mother/father that has survived an illness or near death occurrence.  Interested participants must be available next Monday and preferably be located in the NYC/tri-state area.  ABC’s daytime show is additionally looking for women who have “cheated” on their doctor and have gotten a second opinion that might have saved their life.  To apply for either of these segments, send an email right away to: [email protected]

Casting Call: A major cable network and Emmy Award-winning producers are casting nationwide for parents and children age 5-13 for a new docu-series titled Politically Incorrect Kids.  The program is looking for families who are outgoing with expressive, articulate kids who are not ashamed to share their point of view with the world.  Send an email ASAP to: [email protected] and include your name, contact info, city/state, photos and a description of your precocious kid.
