Seven networks carried President Obama’s live address at the memorial service in Tucson, AZ and to the country Wednesday night. The address aired from approximately 845-915p on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, CNN, FOX News and MSNBC and the average audience was nearly 30.8 million viewers with a combined HH rating of 19.4.

News from Bravo:

  • In April, Bravo debuts Million Dollar Decorators following the professional and personal lives of some of LA’s hottest interior decorators and their million dollar projects. Also in April, Bravo premieres Pregnant in Heels, a series featuring maternity concierge Rosie Pope as she advises her privileged and pregnant clients in Manhattan.
  • The network tapped Jewel and Kara DioGuardi for a new music competition series Platinum Hit where twelve aspiring songwriters battle through various challenges. The series was previously titled Hitmakers. Platinum Hit debuts this summer.
  • New chef competition series Rocco’s Dinner Party where chefs compete to throw the best dinner party for Rocco DiSpirito and his celebrity friends is slated to premiere later this year.
  • Series returning on a new night include the season four bow of The Real Housewives of New York on Tuesday, February 15 at 10p; season four of Million Dollar Listing on Thursday, February 3 at 9p; the sixth season opener of The Real Housewives of Orange County on Sunday, March 6 at 10p; and Watch What Happens: Live airing now on Tuesdays and Sundays at 11p.
  • Bravo also renewed a slew of series: The Rachel Zoe Project for a fourth run; season five of Flipping Out; Work of Art: The Next Great Artist for a second season; season five of The Millionaire Matchmaker; and Bethenny Ever After (new title) is back for a second season opening February 28 at 10p.

Oxygen adds four new original series:

  • All About Aubrey – Former lead singer of Danity Kane, Aubrey O’Day re-emerges and tries her hand again with the music industry. Ish Entertainment produces the series premieres March 7 at 10p.
  • Tori & Dean: sTORIbook Weddings – Previously announced new series where Tori Spelling and husband Dean McDermott help with couple’s wedding plans, taking the event from ordinary to extraordinary. Life In a Bowl Productions and World of Wonder Productions are producing and the series opens in April.
  • The World According to Paris – Docu-series follows Paris Hilton and the top people in her life. Viewers will discover Paris is determined to make a new life for herself. A. Smith & Co. is producing and the series debuts this spring.
  • The Glee Project – 10-episode competition series which finds and trains a group of talented performers who compete against each other to win a guest starring role on FOX’s Glee. Ryan Murphy Television and Embassy Row are producing and the series premieres in June.

Oxygen is also developing two series projects:

  • Love Scouts (wt) – Docu-series featuring Olivia “Liv” Alexander and her team of love scouts as they work in Los Angeles finding singles to match up with their hard-to-please clients. Target Entertainment produces.
  • Dance Complex (wt) – Series goes inside the glamorous though cutthroat world of professional dancers working in Los Angeles. Studio Lambert is producing.

Comedy Central’s third season debut of Tosh.0 on a new night and time on Tuesday at 10p became the most-watched episode in the series’ history with 3.6 million total viewers and delivering a 2.5 rating with A18-49 and a 4.4 rating among both M18-34 and M18-24.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

Debmar-Mercury’s The Wendy Williams Show was renewed for a third season beginning next September. The daily talk show is cleared in more than 70% of the US on stations from the FOX, CBS, NBC, Local TV, Tribune, Lin, Cox, Raycom, Meredith and New Vision television groups. Debmar-Mercury will keep back four minutes per hour of national advertising inventory, though cash-plus-barter renewal deals were made with many top FOX Television Station markets including New York and Los Angeles.

Spike TV picked up the 52-episode series Three Sheets hosted by comedian Zane Lamprey as he journeys around the world to different drinking holes and learns about the local drinking culture. Spike TV premieres the half-hour series February 8 at 1030p. Three Sheets originally aired on MOJO HD beginning December 2008 and then on FLN in July 2009.

One Entertainment granted the exclusive licensing rights in North America for Consejo Mudial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), the Mexican wrestling league.  Under terms of the deal, One Entertainment will license, market and promote branded merchandise and products featuring CMLL.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

ABC picked up a remake of Charlie’s Angels as a one-hour drama pilot. The pilot will be based on the 1970s original hit series though will have a contemporary feel and it will be set in Miami. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar penned the script and are executive producing with Leonard Goldberg, Drew Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen.

FOX ordered a 30m multi-camera comedy pilot titled I Hate My Teenager Daughter about two women who were picked on by mean girls when they were younger and are now appalled to find out their daughters are turning into mean girls. Warner Bros. is producing with Sherry Bilsing-Graham and Ellen Kreamer producing and writing.

Producers Mark Burnett (Survivor, The Apprentice) and Seth Jarrett (Celebrity Ghost Stories) are partnering on a supernatural reality series for Syfy called School Spirits. The one-hour series is in development and will explore hauntings at colleges and high schools around the country. Jarrett Creative Group is producing with Burnett and Jarrett serving as executive producers.

Also for Syfy, the writing team of Jane Espenson and Drew Z. Greenberg (Caprica) are working on the script for a pilot in development titled Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) from ITV Studios America. Previously, Syfy picked up the rights to the British detective series for development as a new one-hour series for US audiences with Howard Braunstein of Jaffe/Braunstein Entertainment serving as executive producer. Furthermore, the series project is a co-production with Universal Cable Productions and ITV. UCP will be the producing company.

Production has begun on GSN’s new mystery word game show, Lingo produced by ZOO Productions, a unit of ALL2MEDIA. Comedian Bill Engvall will host the show along with an as yet-to-be-hired co-host. The daily strip show with initially 40 total episodes is slated to premiere in June.

Two veteran “survivors” Russell Hantz and “Boston” Rob Mariano will join the other 16 previously-announced castaways on CBS’ Survivor: Redemption Island. The series is back for a 22nd season beginning February 16 at 8p.

Fashion model/television personality Toccara is featured in the second season of Donald J. Trump Presents The Ultimate Merger, scheduled to debut on TV One this summer. Toccara will attempt to find her perfect mate from among twelve successful bachelors in the dating competition series.

Casting Call: Sloane Cooper Development is seeking people who have recently decided to leave their big city life and career and move back to their hometowns to appear in a docu-series on a major cable company. These people have the intent to make a change though have not made the move yet. These people should also be interested in their hometowns and have the desire to do something to rejuvenate their hometowns. If interested, send an email to Jenna at: [email protected].

Casting Call: Producers are now casting for Malibu Surf, a pilot presentation for a new reality television series based in Malibu featuring the beach scene, sporting culture and surfing lifestyle. Specifically, producers are looking for a Beach Girl who is 18-25 years old, all ethnicities will be considered and the woman should be beautiful and athletic with surfing experience a must. Kite surfing, tow surfing and other extreme water sports experience is a plus. The Beach Girl should also have a great sense of humor and willing to try nearly anything and have a laid-back personality though when challenged about her lifestyle she can become forceful. Wednesday A18-49 Analysis:  ABC claimed first place Wednesday night with a 3.0/8 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. ABC won the 8p hour even with a truncated primetime schedule due to President Obama’s live speech at the memorial in Tucson which aired on ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC. ABC posted a 3.0/9 for The Middle at 8p while Univision’s Eva Luna was next at 1.6/4. ABC remained in the lead through 9p with Modern Family at 4.2/11 with Univision at #2 again with Triunfo del Amor at 1.7/5. NBC took over at 10p with Law & Order: SVU at 2.5/7 followed by the series launch of Off the Map on ABC at 2.3/6.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

IMAX Corporation added Ann Sommerlath as VP/Corporate Communications where she will spearhead the company’s media efforts and manage overall communications strategies. Ann reports to directly to IMAX’s CEO. Before taking this new role, Ann was a SVP at Edelman Public Relations.

Media Storm hired former MediaCom executive Dene Callas for the newly-created position of Managing Director/Operations and Development. Additionally, Media Storm elevated Tina Tison to Managing Director up from Director/Strategic Planning. Tina will head many top accounts at Media Storm including Food Network, FX, Teen Nick and CBS College Sports Network as well as the company’s annual American Cancer Society fundraiser. Media Storm is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and is headed by Co-Managing Partners/Co-Founders, Craig Woerz and Tim Williams.

Simon Murphy tapped as Head/Gambling for FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) as the gambling unit is being integrated into FME from FremantleMedia. Simon will be in charge of FME’s online, land-based and mobile gambling activities.

Joe D’Ambrosia appointed VP/Programming with Disney Junior. Joe joins the newly-branded network after spending close to twenty years writing, producing and developing children’s television content and family films. In his new role, Joe will report to Nancy Kanter, SVP, Disney Junior Worldwide.

Steve Gahler promoted to VP/GM of KSTW-TV, The CW Network affiliate in Seattle, owned by CBS Television Station group. Steve was upped from Station Manager/Director of Sales at the station since November 2006.

CBS Sports named Dan Sabreen to Senior Manager/Communications and he will continue to supervise publicity for CBS College Sports Network and other CBS sports programming. Most recently, Dan was Manager/Corporate Communications for CBS College Sports Network.

Jordan Wertlieb elevated to EVP at Hearst Television and will relocate to the company’s New York City office. In his new position, Jordan will manage a portion of the 29 Hearst TV stations nationwide and will work closely with David J. Barrett, President/CEO of Hearst Television, Inc. Jordon previously served as President/GM at WBAL-TV, Hearst Television’s NBC affiliate in the Baltimore market.
Effective immediately, RJ Palmer advanced Pete Regan to manage the agency as COO. Pete will oversee the daily functions of the agency based at the company’s headquarters in New York and reporting to Jim Vail, President.

Michael Williams joins the communications team at Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution and will serve as a new syndication media contact. Michael previously was with Warner Bros. Media Research and Insights group and before that with Nielsen.
