~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Tim Allen’s frosh sitcom Last Man Standing on ABC received an order for two more episodes from the network, taking the total episode tally to 24, reports EW.  To date, Last Man Standing has averaged 10.6 million total viewers and delivered a 3.1 rating/9 share among A18-49. 

2012 Upfront Update:  Univision Communications will hold its annual Upfront presentation in New York City at the New Amsterdam Theatre on May 15 at 11a. 

TLC will explore the lives of American gypsies through their extravagant wedding celebrations in its upcoming new series My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding.  The network says more than 45 million viewers tuned in to watch the original UK series that aired on TLC in 2011.  The series will reveal the hidden culture of the estimated one million gypsies and travellers that exist across the US.  TLC has ordered eight one-hour episodes from Firecracker Films and on-location production has already taken place in several states including West Virginia, Georgia and Maryland.  A premiere date has yet to be set.

A fourth season was granted to Hot in Cleveland by TV Land.  For its third season, Hot in Cleveland has averaged an estimated 1.8 million total viewers.  TV Land is also proceeding with its untitled spin-off series starring Cedric the Entertainer as Rev. Boyce which is co-written by Cedric and Hot in Cleveland creator Suzanne Martin.  TV Land ordered a pilot last year.  

At the Winter 2012 Television Critics Association Press tour yesterday, Hallmark Channel revealed its first and second quarter 2012 programming.  Hallmark Channel will premiere nine Hallmark Channel Original Movies.  The titles premiering on Saturday nights include:  A Taste of Romance debuting this Saturday at 8p; Cupid on February 11 at 8p; and Chasing Leprechauns on March 17 at 8p.  Then in mid-April, the Hallmark Channel Original Movies move to Sunday nights starting with Undercover Bridesmaid on April 15 at 8p; followed by Notes From the Heart Healer on May 5 at 8p; and Operation Cupcake on June 16 at 8p among others. 

Hallmark Movie Channel (HMC) also announced its first and second quarter 2012 programming schedule yesterday at the TCA press tour which includes five original films and blockbuster movie events.  In 2012, HMC will double its production slate and will continue to do so each year until the network reaches 24 to 30 movies titles annually.  HMC is now in 45 million homes and a few of its upcoming Hallmark Movie Channel Original titles include Goodnight for Justice: The Measure of a Man on January 28 at 8p starring Luke Perry; Duke starring Steven Weber on April 28 at 8p; and Lake Effects headlined by Jane Seymour this May among others.  For the complete original movie lineup of Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel, please visit our website at www.cynopsis.com.

A trio of Showtime series makes their comeback to the premium network’s lineup on April 8: Nurse Jackie starring Edie Falco opens a fourth season at 9p; The Big C helmed by Laura Linney debuts at 930p; and The Borgias headlined by Jeremy Irons premieres at 10p.

Original series Unfaithful: Stories of Betrayal opens a second season on OWN beginning February 4 at 9p.  In each episode, two couples share intimate personal stories of heartbreak while a therapist offers insight on the couple’s healing process.  True Entertainment produces the series.

Independent media agency, RJ Palmer based in New York is being bought by MDC Partners.  RJ Palmer handles such brands as Ben & Jerry’s, Build-A-Bear Workshop, Dulcolax, Lunesta, Perdue Farms and many more with total billings estimated at more than $800 million.  The deal will cost MDC Partners an estimated $25 million plus additional considerations based on future performance.  RJ Palmer will operate as a stand-alone unit of MDC and its entire senior management staff and 70 employees are to remain with the agency. 

The second season debut of comedy sketch series Portlandia on IFC last Friday at 10p attracted 500,000  total viewers, a +39% growth over the season one premiere as well as 399,000 among A18-49 which is a +81% increase over the first season launch. 

Wednesday’s second season premiere of Only In America with Larry the Cable Guy on HISTORY at 9p delivered 2.7 million total viewers; 1.3 million with A25-54; and 1.1 million among A18-49, representing +29%, +30% and +19% increases among the demos respectively.  Following at 10p, the new season of American Restoration generated 2.8 million total viewers; 1.4 million among A25-54; and 1.2 million with A18-49.  Across the demos, American Restoration posted gains of +17% with total viewers and A25-54 and a +9% with A18-49.  Only In America with Larry the Cable Guy is produced by Pilgrim Studios and American Restoration is from Leftfield Pictures.

Also on Wednesday, Syfy launched an eighth season premiere of Ghost Hunters at 9p which drew 2.0 million total viewers; 1.1 million with A25-54; and 1.0 million A18-49 viewers.  Then at 10p, Syfy opened a second season of Face Off which held steady with 2.0 million total viewers; 1.0 million A25-54 viewers; and spiked a bit with A18-49 viewers to 1.2 million.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

Telco Productions, Inc. is launching Game Time into national syndication this fall.  Game Time is a new weekly, half-hour program aimed at sports fans of all ages.  In each episode, teen interviewers will go behind the scenes with top sports legends such as Tiger Woods, Shaquille O’Neal, Landon Donovan and more.  In addition at NATPE 2012, Telco Productions is launching the half-hour weekly reality show The Best Little Auction House in Texas featuring Vikki Vines, one of the top auctioneers in America. 

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

The CW approved a musical chairs-style game show called Oh Sit giving the one-hour competition show a 10-episode order.  The show, featuring 20 contestants as they race through an obstacle course set to music, will debut later this season and is produced by The Gurin Co. and 405 Productions.  Phil Gurin is billed as creator and executive producer along with Richard Joel and Deena Dill.  The show will name its host in the near future.

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis:  ABC hung onto its Wednesday winning streak at 3.1/8 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  At 8p, new episodes of ABC’s comedies The Middle and Suburgatory averaged a top-rated 2.9/8 while NBC’s sitcom Whitney paired with the premiere of Are You There, Chelsea? averaged a second place showing of 2.2/6 (Are You There, Chelsea? posted a stand-alone 2.3/6 at 830p). Also this hour, The CW debuted a new season of One Tree Hill at 0.9/3.  ABC stayed firmly in first place through 9p with its comedies Modern Family and Happy Endings at an average of 4.1/11 and CBS’ People’s Choice Awards presentation was next at 2.7/7.  Then at 10p, ABC polished off the final win with Revenge at 2.4/6 and CBS’ People’s Choice Awards was #2 at 2.3/6.  Univision’s new competition reality series Dale con Ganas also premiered this hour at 1.0/3, ranking fourth.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Tim Shaw was promoted from AE to Director/National Advertising Sales at REELZCHANNEL.  In his new role, Tim will be charged with increasing the network’s revenue by forging new media and marketing partnerships.  He is based at the network’s New York City office.  Prior to this advancement, Tim was with Turner Entertainment Sales from 2006 to 2011. 

Strengthening its programming team, Bravo Media elevated Deirdre Bianchi to the newly-minted role as VP/Program Planning and Acquisitions.  Deirdre will now manage the strategic scheduling of Bravo’s programming, all off-network and motion picture acquisitions and additionally be the network’s liaison to NBCUniversal’s cross-platform programmers among other duties.  Based in New York, she reports to David Brewer, VP/Program Strategy and Acquisitions.

Effective immediately, Richard C. Sutton was appointed Global Head/Sales for CBS Interactive Music Group.  Richard will supervise the worldwide sales activities for various properties including Last.fm, metrolyrics.com, MP3.com and Radio.com.  Previously, Richard was with WebMD where he served as SVP/Consumer Markets.

WNET, parent company of New York’s public television stations THIRTEEN and WLIW21 and operator of NJTV added Caroline Croen as VP/CFO and Treasurer and Lisa Mantone as VP/Development and Communications.  Caroline joins from Jazz at Lincoln Center where she was CFO and in her new position she will manage the financial security and growth of WNET.  Lisa comes to WNET from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) where she served as Associate Deputy Director/External Affairs.  At WNET, Lisa will oversee all fundraising functions encompassing membership, major gifts, foundation support and national and local underwriting.  Lisa will also supervise WNET’s 50th anniversary campaign. 

Telemundo Media tapped Denise McManus as VP/Sales for Telemundo Arizona.  Denise will begin her new position as of January 17 and she will report to Araceli De Leon, Regional VP/GM, Telemundo Southwest.
