High school football drama Friday Night Lights will end after its fifth season. The show just wrapped its fourth season on DirecTV and will premiere this fourth run on NBC April 30. Season five is in production now and the show will likely continue with its most recent programming pattern of debuting season five on DirecTV in the fall and then air on NBC during spring 2011.
Bravo rolls out the new docu-series Double Exposure centering on the high fashion celebrity photography team of Markus Klinko and Indrani on April 5 at 10p. The series follows the pair and stylist GK Reid as they capture prize-winning photographs of such celebrities as Kate Winslet and Will Smith. Viewers will get an inside look at how Klinko and Indrani work 18-hour days, manage the stress of budgets and deadlines yet try to keep a professional relationship, even though they were formerly a couple. Juma Entertainment produces for Bravo.
ABC reupped its summer reality series Shaq Vs. for a second season produced by Media Rights and Dick Clark Productions. The series, where Shaq tests his sports skills outside of basketball, will have six new episodes for this summer.
ESPN Deportes and Degree Men, in collaboration with Walton Isaacson, will premiere the documentary soccer show, Frente al Reto, beginning March 14 at 830p on ESPN Deportes. The eight-episode program, produced by ESPN Deportes, will profile eight Mexican soccer stars as they prep for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.
Krupp Kommunications (K2) was selected as the full service public relations, marketing and branding agency of record for Bremenn Research Labs and its various products. K2 will be involved with brand management and consulting in addition to all national media relations.

ION Television made a handful of acquisition deals including one with Twentieth Television involving the crime drama Shark for seasons one and two with 38 total episodes; and the reality series Texas Justice for seasons one through four with 572 30m episodes. ION also picked up a 15-film package from Paramount Pictures Worldwide Television Distribution with such titles as The Godfather trilogy and Top Gun among others. Additionally, ION Television acquired a 12+ movie package from Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution including the titles The Fugitive, GoodFellas and Space Cowboys and more. All titles will premiere on ION Television during the next year.
Premium movie channel, EPIX signed its fifth distributor in a deal with the National Cable and Telecommunications Cooperative. Epix, a joint venture between Viacom’s Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate and MGM, will be available in approximately 20 million homes by May as a result of this new agreement. Both Cox Communications and Mediacom Communications will launch Epix in April while Charter Communications will roll out the network in May. Verizon FiOS was the first service to launch the channel last October.
BBC America HD, a simulcast of BBC America, can be now seen in 20 US states including the top markets New York and Los Angeles. Various providers are now offering BBC America HD including Time Warner Cable, DISH Network, Cox Communications, Bright House, BendBroadband, Click! Network and GCI. Also in Tacoma, WA, Click! Network is the first operator to offer BBC America HD on VOD.
CBS cast Alex O’Loughlin in the pivotal role of Det. Steve McGarrett for its remake of Hawaii Five-O. In the original series, Jack Lord played the lead role. This is the third series offer for O’Loughlin from CBS as he was previously cast in Moonlight and Three Rivers.
TLC craves more sweet foods as the network begins production on a new series today in Washington, D.C. with the working title, Cupcake Sisters. The six-episode series features the sister business duo of Sophie LaMontagne and Katherine Kallinis, who co-own the successful Georgetown Cupcake. Cupcake Sisters (wt) is scheduled to premiere in July and joins other food-themed shows on TLC including Cake Boss, Ultimate Cake Off, BBQ Pitmasters and the upcoming Craving Comfort and Little Chocolatiers. Big Fish Entertainment produces Cupcake Sisters (wt) for TLC.
HBO gave an official nod to the five-hour miniseries remake of classic film Mildred Pierce with Kate Winslet set to star, reports THR. The production will be co-produced by MGM, Killer Films and John Wells Productions. Winslet will play the title role of Mildred Pierce Beragon, a proud single mother who tries to gain her daughter’s love while building a lucrative business during the Great Depression in Los Angeles. Joan Crawford won the Academy Award for the original film Mildred Pierce in 1945. Casting for the miniseries’ other roles is currently happening with production slated to begin in New York this April. Todd Haynes and Jon Raymond penned the script, an adaptation of the novel by James M. Cain. Haynes will executive produce with Pamela Koffler, Christine Vachon and John Wells; Ilene Landress will serve as producer.
Wednesday A18-49 Analysis: FOX secured a win among A18-49 Wednesday night at 6.0/16, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. ABC won the 8p hour with a combination of the Charlie Brown Valentine special and The Middle averaging a 2.6/7, though just a tenth of a rating point higher than FOX’s Human Target at 2.5/7. FOX swept past the other networks during 9p with American Idol at 9.5/23 while CBS’ Criminal Minds came in second at 3.6/9. CBS was in charge through 10p with CSI: NY at 3.3/9 and NBC’s replacement programming in this time period with a Law & Order: SVU repeat was next at 1.8/5.

Mediaedge:cia (MEC) welcomes Jackie Stasi as Partner/Group Media Director to head the Paramount Theatrical Digital team, joining from OMD. In her new role, Jackie will offer Paramount’s Theatrical division strategy and digital campaign implementation in support of upcoming films Shutter Island, The Last Airbender and Shrek Forever After. Based in Los Angeles, Jackie will report jointly to Mark Yesayian, Managing Director/West Coast Digital Operations and Jeff Killingsworth, Director of the Paramount account and head of MEC’s L.A. office.
Brady Pocsik was upped to Senior AE by Katz Radio Group for the Atlanta office of Christal Radio.
Telemundo promoted Michelle Alban to VP/Corporate Communications and Public Affairs. Michelle will continue to manage the company’s domestic business and trade media strategy on behalf of Telemundo Communications Group, internal communications, executive communications in addition to now overseeing the company’s Public Affairs unit working closely with Alfredo Richard, SVP/Communications and Talent Development, to whom she reports.
Susan Taylor was appointed as EVP/Managing Director with Carat for its West Coast offices located in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Previously, Susan was EVP/Managing Partner with PhD on the West Coast.
Stephen Reverand was named SVP/Development and Production for Specials and Events with Discovery Channel, effective March 15. Stephen takes over from interim head, Christine Weber who has recently been appointed as VP/Development and Production for Specials and Events. Stephen will be based at the network’s headquarters in Silver Spring, MD.
Universal Cable Productions hired Maira Suro as SVP/Development and Current Programming, responsible for managing new and current programming for cable networks outside NBCU. She will also supervise development and production of extra programming associated with all series. Furthermore, UCP elevated Chris Sanagustin to SVP/Development and Current Programming; Tom Lieber as Director/Current and Development; and Korin Huggins to Manager/Current and Development.
Sucherman Consulting Group Inc. advanced Matthew Wagner as Head/SCG Executive Search. Matthew will spearhead SCG’s executive search functions on both coasts while maintaining his current role as VP of SCG. Matthew is based at the company’s Los Angeles office.
