~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Bravo has renewed Real Housewives of Miami for a second season.  The Miami version is the seventh edition in the network’s franchise and production will begin this month.  In addition, Bravo has replaced the production company behind season one, MCfilmworks with Purveyors of Pop, the production company that already produces the Real Housewives editions in Atlanta, New York City and New Jersey.  The inaugural season of Real Housewives of Miami with seven episodes averaged 1.09 million viewers. 

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

BBC Worldwide America’s Sales and Distribution unit made a deal with national music television network, Fuse, part of The Madison Square Garden Company, for the network to air the UK music awards show, The BRIT Awards 2012.  Fuse will air the awards show on February 21 at 9p, the same day it airs in the UK.  Performers for this year’s awards show include Adele, Rihanna, Bruno Mars and Coldplay among others.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Production on original crime drama Copper which will premiere this summer on BBC America has commenced.  The 10-episode one-hour series, created by Tom Fontana and Will Rokos is shooting in studio and on location in Toronto through this May.  Copper is produced by Cineflix Inc. in association with BBC America and Shaw Media. 

Academy Award-winning actor Jon Voight and Academy Award nominee Elliott Gould both have joined Showtime’s drama pilot Ray Donovan.  Liev Schreiber already stars in the title role.  Voight will play Ray’s father Mickey Donovan, a newly freed ex-con who heads to Los Angeles with nefarious intentions to find his estranged family.  Gould will take up the recurring guest starring role as Ezra Goodman, a senior partner at a law firm who is Ray’s mentor and confidante who also shows signs of dementia.  Ray Donovan is a Showtime production and shooting will begin in L.A. early this year.

Justin Kirk (Weeds) was cast in NBC’s comedy pilot Animal Kingdom playing Dr. George Coleman, a House-like veterinarian who loves animals but usually dislikes their owners. 

NBC also cast several for its Western drama pilot The Frontier from writer/EP Shaun Cassidy, per THREthan Embry will play DJ, a sardonic fellow in a sham marriage to Payton played by Megan Ferguson who is described as part Scarlett O’Hara and part Tallulah Bankhead.  Jake McLaughlin will play Cooper, a strong and ambitious father with great fighting skills.  Bridget Regan was cast as Hannah, a beautiful 20-something woman who bonds with Cooper despite traveling with her husband.  Al Weaver will play Ben, a heavyset writer who is documenting the journey.  And, Gina Bramhill will play a young woman who is saved by Ben who is on her way to meet her fiance for the first time.  Sony Pictures Television and Prospect Park are producing; Thomas Schlamme is directing and serving as EP.

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis:  FOX held its own winning Wednesday at 4.6/12 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  American Idol scored high for FOX during 8p at 6.1/17 with ABC’s comedies The Middle and Suburgatory in second at an average of 2.6/8.  ABC then flipped into first place at 9p with its sitcoms Modern Family and Happy Endings at an average of 4.2/11 followed by CBS’ Criminal Minds at 3.3/8.  At 10p, ABC’s Revenge and CBS’ CSI tied for #1 at 2.5/7 each and NBC’s Law & Order: SVU came in third at 2.0/5.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Effective immediately, Bob Massie was hired as Head/Entertainment at DCD Media-owned September Films.  Bob will be based in London and will manage the company’s present roster of shows in the UK. 

Peter Risafi has become VP/Brand Creative and Production for Food Network and Cooking Channel.  Peter will be part of the marketing team and will supervise the creative strategy and implementation for both brands in addition to overseeing the in-house creative services group and all creative agency relationships.

Thrillist Media Group added two executives to its roster: Adam Chandler as President/Sales and CRO and Shane Rahmani as VP/Business Development and Strategy.  Adam is based in New York and will concentrate on overseeing the content monetization of the company by expanding advertiser opportunities across all platforms.  Shane will also be based in New York and will be in charge of developing new partnerships and leading strategic growth efforts in the areas of new content, commerce and revenue opportunities. 

Betsy Braun joined Hearst Television Inc.’s WCVB-TV and WMUR-TV in Boston as Program Director as of January 12, 2012.  In her new role, Betsy supervises programming for both stations and media relations for WCVB-TV.  Prior to this appointment, Betsy was with Braun Media & Marketing. 

Reality TV production studio, Pilgrim Studios founded and owned by CEO Craig Piligian hired four new executives and announced several promotions: Nicholas Caprio joins as VP/Original Programming after serving as EVP at Gay Rosenthal Productions; Rob Hill was added as VP/Development working on unscripted series and joining from UK-based production company Optomen; Beth Miller will take on the new role as VP/Scripted Programming after having spent ten years with Disney as an executive at Disney Channel and ABC Family; and Jon Unger joins as Manager/Development coming from ABC.  Under promotions, Pilgrim Studios elevated Johnny Gould to SVP/Original Programming and Development; Jamie Fleischman was upped to Manager/Development; and Jake Shelton was also promoted to Manager/Development.
