ABC has removed freshman comedy Man Up! from its schedule, replacing it with encores of Tim Allen’s new comedy Last Man Standing through the end of the year in the Tuesday 830p time slot.  Production on the ten episodes of Man Up! have concluded and the remaining unaired episodes will likely run next summer.  The most recent episode of Man Up! delivered a 1.6 A18-49 rating and 4.8 million total viewers.  When the new midseason schedule begins in the New Year, ABC has placed new comedy Work It in Man Up!’s slot starting January 3.

Eight one-hour episodes of Ink Master, the first-ever tattoo competition reality series opens January 17 at 10p on Spike TV.  Ten top tattoo artists from different parts of the country will battle for a $100,000 cash prize, an editorial feature in the magazine Inked and the reigning title of Ink Master.  The series is produced for Spike by Original Media.

New dramedy Common Law will not premiere on USA Network January 26 as planned.  Instead, the cable network will move the series to launch this summer when the network believes it will attract a larger audience.  Common Law, starring Michael Ealy, Warren Kole, Jack McGee and Sonya Walger focuses on two cops who are having a rough time with their professional seven-year partnership and are forced into therapy by their captain.  Production on the twelve episodes is currently underway in New Orleans.  CBS Television Studios and Junction Entertainment are producing.

The international debut of drama series The Firm will happen via Sony Pictures Television’s (SPT) worldwide roster of channels on February 19.  This premiere launch is the first time SPT’s global networks will host a premiere event day and date across its channels in every international region.  Produced by eOne Television in association with SPT Networks and Paramount Pictures, The Firm will debut internationally with a two-hour day and date event reaching 126 million households.  The 22-episode series will broadcast on AXN throughout Asia, Latin America, Central Europe, Iberia and Italy and via Sony Entertainment Television across Africa, Russia and the Baltics.  The Firm is based on the novel by John Grisham who also serves as executive producer along with Lukas Reiter, eOne’s John Morayniss, Michael Rosenberg and Noreen Halpern. 

Ricki Lake’s new syndicated talk show, The Ricki Lake Show has been sold in 80% of the US announced Twentieth Television, Inc. Set to debut in September 2012, the talk show has been picked up in 29 out of the top 30 markets and has been sold to CBS, McKinnon, Lin, Newport, Raycom, Capitol, Nexstar and added FOX Television Stations.  Added stations picking up The Ricki Lake Show include FOX Television Stations’ WTTG/Washington, D.C., KMSP/Minneapolis, WOFL/Orlando, KSAZ/Phoenix; CBS Televisions’ KYW-WPSG/Philadelphia, KPIX-KBCW/San Francisco, WUPA/Atlanta, WTOG/Tampa, KDKA-WPCW/Pittsburgh; Post Newsweek’s WDIV/Detroit, WPLG/Miami; McKinnon’s KUSI/San Diego; Capitol’s WRAZ/Raleigh; LIN’s WAVY-WVBT/Norfolk, WPRI-WNAC/Providence; Newport’s WAWS-WTEV/Jacksonville, WXXA/Albany, KLRT/Little Rock, WPTY-WLMT/Memphis; Raycom’s WXIX/Cincinnati, WWBT/Richmond, WFLX/West Palm; and Nexstar’s WROC/Rochester, WJET-WFXP/Erie. NBC’s upcoming midseason musical drama Smash has landed Uma Thurman for a five-episode run.  In Smash, Thurman will play a big movie star who can be difficult to handle and has a desire to star in Marilyn, the show’s musical within the musical.  NBC will debut Smash on February 6.

Upcoming miniseries Coma, set to premiere Memorial Day 2012 and air over two nights on A&E Network has signed Richard Dreyfuss, Ellen Burstyn, James Woods, Geena Davis, Lauren Ambrose and Steven Pasquale to star in the four-hour production.  Coma is a medical thriller from Ridley and Tony Scott and a contemporary adaptation of the novel by Robin Cook and the film by Michael Crichton.  Production is presently happening in Atlanta.  Ridley and Tony Scott, David W. Zucker, Martin Erlichmann and Mikael Salomon are all listed as executive producers with John J. McLaughlin penning the script.  Sony Pictures Television is producing for A&E.

A script deal involving an untitled cop drama from Queen Latifah was approved by CBS, reports THR.  The plot involves a street-smart Philadelphia woman who realizes she should become a homicide detective after a defining event happens.  Charles Murray will write the script and be an executive producer along with Latifah.  CBS Studios and Latifah’s Flavor Unit Entertainment are producing.  Flavor Unit’s Shakim Compere and Shelby Stone are also executive producing with production company Rocklin/Fraust’s Nicole Rocklin, Blye Fraust and Renata Adamidov.

Even though the deal is not quite complete, HBO is ready to begin production on a comedy pilot starring Goldie Hawn titled The Viagra Diaries as soon as a director has been selected (I really hope the name of this project doesn’t blow up your spam filters!).  The project has been in development for several months and is from Hawn and Darren Star who will both be executive producers with Aaron Kaplan and Wendy, Peter and Alan Riche.  The pilot stems from the novel by Barbara Rose Brooker about love for those aged 60+.

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis:  CBS won by a narrow margin Wednesday night at 3.1/8 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  At 8p, CBS’ Survivor: South Pacific and FOX’s The X-Factor tied for #1 at 3.3/9 apiece with ABC’s comedies The Middle and Suburgatory coming in second with an average of 2.8/8.  ABC then moved into first place at 9p with its sitcoms Modern Family and Happy Endings at an average of 4.0/10 and CBS’ Criminal Minds was #2 at 3.4/9.  CBS was back in the lead during 10p with CSI at 2.5/7 and ABC’s frosh drama Revenge was next in line with 2.4/6.

Former History Channel executive, Jamie Cutburth was hired by Bravo Media as VP/Ad Sales Marketing.  Jamie will spearhead strategies and multiplatform initiatives to increase ad sales revenues that include product integration, promotions and sponsorships involving linear and digital.  Based in New York, Jamie will report to Ellen Stone, SVP/Marketing.

Vincent Ritter joins The Inspiration Networks as Director/Information Technology

Island Def Jam Music Group tapped Chris Anokute as SVP/A&R where he will report directly to Karen Kwak, EVP/Head of A&R, Island Def Jam Music Group.

WJLA and NewsChannel 8, the ABC affiliate and the 24-hour cable news operation in the Washington, D.C. area elevated Bill Lord to VP/GM to have oversight of the daily operations of both stations.  Bill will now manage the editorial, sales, marketing, technical and operations for WJLA-TV and NewsChannel 8 owned by Allbritton Communications Company.

Relocating from Seattle to New York, Keith Mackay will take on the new role as President/Strategy at Optimedia.  In this newly-minted position, Keith will oversee Optimedia’s strategy and planning product.  He will additionally manage the launch of the company’s products Pathways, Touchpoints and Catalyst.  Keith will report to Dave Ehlers, President, Optimedia.
