CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Cynopsis: Kids!

12/09/05

Good morning. It’s Friday, December 9, 2005, and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Cartoon Network‘s new original animated series, Ben 10 (26 x 30 min) will launch on Friday, January 13, at 7:30p.  Following its premiere, the action-adventure series will then take up residence in its regular weekly timeslot on Saturday mornings at 10a, beginning January 14.  Ben 10 will serve as an anchor for Cartoon Network’s Saturday morning comedy/action-adventure line-up (9-11:30a). That lineup will also feature the new series Robotboy, Dragon Hunters and Zixx, as well as the current series The Life & Times of Juniper Lee.

Launching Saturday, January 14, Cartoon Network’s new Saturday line-up looks like this:

  • 9a: Robotboy is an android created by Japanese scientist to be the ultimate fighting robot, but also programmed him with human emotions.  To ensure that Robotboy l does not fall into the wrong hands, Robotboy now lives with Tommy Turnbull, who along with his pals Lola and Gus help Robotboy handle both his strength and emotions.
  • 9:30a: The Life & Times of Juniper Lee this one you know about already.
  • 10aBen 10 is the story of 10yr-old Ben who can shape-shift into all sorts of weird alien beings, each with its own super powers.  This gets Ben into some kid-style trouble, especially when he is discovered by Vilgax, a galactic bad guy.  Throughout the series Ben travels the country with his Grandpa Max in an RV, along with Ben’s cousin Gwen, who is smart and level-headed (must be the name) and isn’t too happy about being along for the ride.
  • 10:30a: Zixx (beginning January 21): An agent for the Intergalactic Network, Zixx crash-lands on Earth bringing with her a struggle between good and evil that threatens the universe.  A capable detective, Zixx and her partner, the reptilian Flanngo, team up with some normal teens to foil the plans of bad guys.  Zixx mixes live action with CGI animation.
  • 11a: Dragon Hunters is set far in the future and follows the adventures of Lian Chu and Gbwizdo as they set out on their funny and weird expeditions, as they promise to rid customers, from town to town, of any and all of their firebreathing, snot-blowing, village-wrecking dragon problems.

Disney Television Animation has begun production on My Friends Tigger & Pooh, an interactive, learning-focused series targeted to preschoolers.  Scheduled to premiere in 2007 as part of the Playhouse Disney programming block on Disney Channel, the CG animated series stars Pooh, Tigger and the rest of the gang from the Hundred Acre Wood and introduces a new character, a 6 yr-old girls who befriends Pooh and Tigger.  The series aims to model for younger children how they can get along and work with others.  My Friends Tigger & Pooh is Executive Produced by Jeff Kline (Dragon Tales).  The series story editor is Brian Hohlfeld (Piglet’s Big Movie, Pooh’s Heffalump Movie), with Don MacKinnon (Tarzan, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command) and Dave Hartman serving as Directors.

Continuing in its development of a localized version of Sesame Street for India, Sesame Workshop, Turner India and Miditech, an independent Asian production company, have unveiled four of the newly developed Muppet characters for Sesame India.  Named Chamki, Aanchoo, Googly and Boombah, the Sesame India Muppets will be featured on the program when it launches in mid 2006 on Cartoon Network and POGO.  Chamki is a typical 5 yr-old, inquisitive and ready to explore the world and she is equipped with never-ending questions.  Her best friend is 6 yr-old Googly who is meticulous, an introvert and loves to read.  Aanchoo, the storyteller, takes viewers on adventures and different settings every time she sneezes. Boombah is a friendly, cuddly lion who loves to dance, and is a member of the royal family of Boombagarh.  Additionally, as part of the development of Sesame India, the series will also feature locally produced segments that address the needs of children and to ensure relevance to kids and families in the region.  Sesame India will incorporate a curriculum created by Indian educators, child development experts, and producers.

MTV Films has acquired the feature film rights to Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure, the upcoming videogame of the same name from Atari and Marc Ecko Enterprises.  The game is slated to be released February 2006 for PS2, Xbox and for Windows.  Ecko will serve as Producer on the project with MTV Films’ Gregg Goldin, who brought the project to the company. Jason Weiss and David Gale will be developing on behalf of MTV Films.  The movie will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.
