Highlights of FOX’s 2011-2012 midseason schedule along with premiere dates for several returning series include:

Mondays:  New series Alcatraz premieres January 16 at 8p with a two-hour debut episode. Alcatraz will be joined on Mondays by House in a new time period at 8p starting January 23.  New drama series Touch starring Kiefer Sutherland launches on March 19 at 9p.
Tuesdays:  As of January 17, the lineup is Glee at 8p followed by New Girl at 9p and Raising Hope at 930p.  Then beginning March 6, FOX will air a quartet of sitcoms with encores of New Girl at 8p followed by the season premiere of Breaking In at 830p, then a new episode of New Girl at 9p and Raising Hope at 930p.
Wednesdays:  American Idol is back with an 11th season beginning January 18 at 8p with a two-hour season premiere part one.  Mobbed will air at 9p on Wednesdays though on January 25, the network will air a special preview of Touch at 9p.
Thursdays:  The series premiere of The Finder is set for January 12 at 9p. Also on January 19, American Idol season premiere part two will open at 8p.
Fridays:  On January 6, the network will air live the FOX Sports Special: 2012 AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic at 8p.  Then starting January 13, Kitchen Nightmares will air at 8p followed by Fringe at 9p.
Saturdays:  Starting January 7, the lineup will include double Cops episodes at 8p and 830p followed by drama encores at 9p and other encores until 1230a. On February 11, America’s Most Wanted Special Edition two-hour program will air at 8p.
Sundays:  FOX debuts new animated series Napoleon Dynamite on January 15 at 830p.  On January 22, the FOX Sports Special: NFC Championship Game will air live at 6p followed by a special broadcast of American Idol at 10p (approximate start time). Then on March 11, a season premiere of Bob’s Burgers kicks off at 830p. 

Kicking off January 9, CBS said its overhauled morning show will be called CBS This Morning.  The revamped show will star hosts Charlie Rose, Gayle King and Erica Hill.  John Miller will become the senior correspondent, Rebecca Jarvis will be the business and economics correspondent and Jeff Glor will serve as a special correspondent.

New docu-series Caged joins MTV’s lineup starting January 9 at 10p.  The series follows four young adults living a small town life in Louisiana as they struggle to improve their lives and find a purpose after high school.  All four have one thing in common on weekend evenings, participating in cage fighting.  The series featuring these amateur MMA fighters will also air on MTV channels around the world beginning May 2012.  Caged is from Joke Productions.

A&E Network opens the new original real-life series Shipping Wars on January 10 with double episodes at 9p and 930p.  Shipping Wars, with 10 30m episodes, follows six independent shippers who transport oversized, bulky and sometimes bizarre items that regular carriers will not touch.  Shipping Wars is produced by Megalomedia for A&E.

Also launching on January 10 is Lifetime’s new series 24 Hour Catwalk at 10p.  TV personality and style icon Alexa Chung hosts the series where four skilled designers get their chance to create a collection judged by fashion industry big shots.  The catch is the designers must create their styles in 24 hours.  Judges include designer Cynthia Rowley, fashion editor Derek Blasberg and publicist James LaForce.  24 Hour Catwalk is produced by Jane Street Entertainment.

As announced yesterday, BET is bringing back a new fifth season of The Game on January 10 at 10p.  Immediately following The Game is the second season of Let’s Stay Together with 22 new half-hour episodes.  The pair of series will air side-by-side on Tuesdays.

This Saturday, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network invites viewers to watch new series Party at Tiffany’s featuring party planner, Tiffany Young.  The 30m series from Entertainment One debuts Saturday with two back-to-back episodes at 10p following the midseason finale of Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s at 9p.  Party at Tiffany’s will air double episodes on each of the subsequent Saturdays, December 10 and December 17 starting at 9p. 

Viewers will get up-close tours of popular brand factories when National Geographic Channel premieres a new season of Ultimate Factories on January 7 at 8p.  The series journeys around the world visiting the makers of Porsche, Ford, Mack Truck, Frito-Lay, Bacardi, Lego, Ducati, Heineken and Eurofighter.  Ultimate Factories is produced by National Geographic Television for NGC. 

A second season of Nothing Personal: Murder for Hire was approved by Investigation Discovery (ID).  Six new episodes hosted by true crime expert Steve Schirripa is scheduled to air next spring.  The series is produced by Cineflix (NP2) Inc. in association with ID and Canal D.

TV Land drew in 3.7 million total viewers on Wednesday for the various premiere episodes of Hot in Cleveland which includes airings at 10p, 11p and 1a.   On the same night, the new series launch of The Exes tallied 2.9 million total viewers including airings at 1030p, 1130p and 130a.

Wednesday’s third season debut of Full Throttle Saloon on truTV at 9p attracted 1.0 million A18-49 viewers; 611,000 with M18-49 as well as 1.6 million total viewers.

Also on Wednesday, Syfy aired the season finale of Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files at 10p which tallied more than 1.4 million total viewers in addition to 759,000 with A18-49 and 741,000 among A25-54.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE, & CLEARANCE ~

New entertainment formats company Blue Touch TV, founded by Chris Pye and David Walton announced deals on two of its formats.

  • The Network, co-developed by Blue Touch and NERD TV is a game show where contestants must utilize their social networking friends to help them answer personal questions about them.  An international distribution agreement has been made with BBC Worldwide.
  • Curveball is a strategy quiz format developed by Blue Touch TV in association with McLaren Entertainment.  The format has been optioned in the UK by production company Rain Media, part of the Marvellous Creative Group that will be pitching it to UK broadcasters in the coming months.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Production has commenced in Atlanta on a sophomore season of MTV’s series Teen Wolf.  The new season welcomes four new recurring cast members including Michael Hogan, Stephen Lunsford, Daniel Sharman and a yet-to-be-cast female character.  Teen Wolf will rejoin MTV’s schedule with the new season during summer 2012.  Hogan will play Gerard, Allison’s grandfather; Lundford will play Matt, a handsome teen who enjoys photography and develops a crush on Allison; and Sharman will play Isaac, a troubled high school teen on the Lacrosse team who will be given a unique gift by the new Alpha, Derek.  Teen Wolf is a co-production of MGM with Lost Marbles Productions, Inc., First Cause, Inc. and DiGa.

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis:  FOX polished off a win Wednesday with the A18-49 viewers at 3.5/9, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  The X-Factor was in charge at 8p delivering a 3.5/10 for FOX while CBS’ Survivor: South Pacific was #2 at 3.1/9.  FOX continued in first place through 9p as The X-Factor and new sitcom I Hate My Teenage Daughter averaged a 3.5/9 and ABC’s repeat comedies Modern Family and Happy Endings averaged a 2.4/6 in second place (FOX’s I Hate My Teenage Daughter delivered a 2.8/7 at 930p).  NBC had a turn in the top spot during 10p as Law & Order: SVU posted a 2.2/6 with CBS’ Grammy Nomination Concert was next in line at 1.9/5.

Spanish Broadcasting System Inc. (SBS) named Jackie Nosti-Cambo as VP/Business Analytics for the company.  In her new role, Jackie will hone in on the business practices of SBS in all of its markets.  She will also help enact new insights and analysis to improve business performance to grow the revenue in all markets.  Jackie has been with SBS since 1992.

UK-based documentary and reality production company, Nutopia has added several to its senior management team: Nick Metcalfe, previously a senior member of the Darlow Smithson creative group, becomes Executive Producer to manage the company’s five-part series How We Invented the World.  Josh Wilkins, currently Series Line Producer for a Nutopia project for HISTORY in the US, will take on additional duties as Deputy Head/Production in charge of large-scale projects and will work with Nick Metcalfe on the series How We Invented the World project.  Also joining Nutopia is Fiona Scott as Head/Development.  Furthermore, Harvey Shackleton was hired as CFO joining from ITV Studios where he served as Director/Finance, Non Fiction.  Rupert Frisby was also tagged as Legal and Business Affairs Consultant joining from talkbackTHAMES where he was Commercial Director.

Multi-platform casual games company, Oberon Media hired Isaac Josephson as VP/Product.  In his new role, Isaac will be in charge of ongoing improvement of Oberon Media’s offering to enable the best gaming experience for its customers.  Isaac will also head the company’s Blaze platform.  He will report to Megan Barbour, SVP/Production, Marketing and Business Intelligence.

Independent worldwide marketing and technology agency, LBi tapped Christine Peterson as Director/Media, effective immediately.  Based in New York, Christine will report to Judith Carr, LBi’s US President.
