Past e-publications, classifieds & industry calendar of events can always be found on our website. Cynopsis Good morning. It’s Friday, December 24, 2010, and this is your first early morning briefing. As always, if you prefer to watch this morning’s news instead of reading it, click here . Premieres & Finales December 25, 2010 – January 2, 2011: December 27 Premieres: December 27 Finale: December 28 Premiere: December 29 Premieres: January 1 Specials: January 1 Premieres: January 2 Premieres: January 2 Finales: FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski signaled yesterday the Comcast/NBC Universal joint venture is in the public interest even though the agency is layering in various conditions to the deal. Genachowski presented the Comcast/NBCU order to the other FCC commissioners yesterday spelling out the imposed conditions in the areas of program access, program carriage, online access, broadcast competition and diversity, localism and other similar issues. The FCC is not saying how long these conditions would be kept in place. The commissioners will now have up to four weeks to vote on the order or they could take a more immediate approach. Though given the holiday time period and the enormity of the deal, the commissioners are expected to take some time to review before voting. The Department of Justice is working closely with the FCC and it is not expected to make any moves right away, including blocking the deal, until the FCC casts its vote. Overall, the deal will likely close sometime in January once full approval has been granted. Tri-state viewers of New York’s Channel 11, can once again tune into WPIX on Christmas morning and watch the classic film loop The Yule Log in its 44th annual year. PIX11 will air The Yule Log, available in hi-def from 9a to 1p this Saturday. Fans of The Yule Log (count me among them!) can download wallpaper and a portable “Log” at www.wpix.com/yulelog and viewers can also follow the Yule Log on Twitter at @PIXYULELOG and become a Facebook fan. Spike TV’s frosh season finale of its original series Auction Hunters on Tuesday at 10p attracted 2.1 million total viewers. This concluding episode now reigns as the most-watched episode of any Spike TV original this year. Throughout its first season, Auction Hunters averaged 1.4 million total viewers and netted a median age of 40 years old, which fits in with Spike TV’s new programming goal of broadening and attracting older guys. The second season of Auction Hunters commences production in January and is slated to premiere in the spring. Gurney Productions produces the series. Fred Foy, whose voice was the narrator and announcer of the Lone Ranger radio and television show for about a decade, died on Wednesday at his home in Woburn, Mass. He was 89. Mr. Foy was not the first Lone Ranger announcer/narrator though he was the last and certainly the best known, from when he joined the radio show in the late 1940s to when the television show signed off in the late 1950s. Mr. Foy was also the radio announcer for other radio shows including The Green Hornet and Sergeant Preston of the Yukon. He later worked in television and became the staff announcer for ABC in New York, working on The Dick Cavett Show. Mr. Foy was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2000. According to his daughter, Nancy Foy, Mr. Foy was proud of his work on the Lone Ranger show and until the end of his life, he would recite the famous introduction to anyone who asked. In addition to his daughter, Nancy, Mr. Foy is survived by his wife, Frances, another daughter, Wendy; a son, Fritz, and three grandchildren.
