ABC cancelled Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, ending the show with its ninth season finale on January 13 which also is the show’s 200th episode.  At its conclusion, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition visits tornado-torn Joplin, MO where Ty Pennington and his crew build seven homes in seven days.  Viewers will still see more of the show as ABC has four special episodes planned after the series ends.  Pennington will also remain with ABC as he joined the network’s upcoming new health and lifestyle daytime series, The Revolution.  Beginning January 20, ABC will put Shark Tank in the Friday at 8p slot.

Making it official, NBC is tapping Howard Stern to become a new judge on its summer reality competition series America’s Got Talent.  Stern is replacing Piers Morgan who left to concentrate on his CNN program.  Production on America’s Got Talent will also move to New York City where Stern presently hosts his SiriusXM radio show.

The interview series, Person to Person, created by Edward R. Murrow is being resurrected by CBS and is premiering February 8 at 8p.  New CBS This Morning co-host Charlie Rose and CBS News Chief Foreign Affairs correspondent/60 Minutes correspondent Lara Logan will co-host the weekly series airing on Wednesdays at 8p.  For years, CBS has apparently wanted to revive Person to Person, the series where interviews of public figures are conducted in their homes.  Rose and Logan will interview musicians, actors, directors, politicians and newsmakers and allow the guests to reveal friends and family and items of personal and professional worth.  Murrow launched the series in 1953 and interviewed such notables as John and Jacqueline Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and more.

Further additions to CBS’ midseason schedule were announced yesterday:

  • The 20th edition of The Amazing Race will debut February 19 at 8p with Phil Keoghan continuing as host.
  • Reality show Undercover Boss will still premiere on January 15 at 8p though will move to 8p on Fridays beginning February 17.
  • Frosh drama A Gifted Man will now shift back an hour on Fridays to 9p. The series was recently given an order for three more episodes.
  • Following A Gifted Man’s 16-episode run, CSI: NY will resume in the 9p Friday time slot and Blue Bloods will continue airing at 10p on Fridays.

British comedian/actor Russell Brand signed a deal with FX to host a late night series.  FX ordered six half-hour episodes of the yet-to-be-titled unscripted series slated to premiere next spring.  The show will offer Brand’s version of current events, politics and pop culture shot in front of a live audience and featuring interaction with the studio audience.  FX Productions is producing the show in association with Branded Films and Dakota Films.

Univision Network revealed its midseason schedule:

  • Previously announced new weekly series Dale con Ganas premieres January 11 at 10p hosted by Alfonso “Poncho” de Anda.
  • New series El Gran Show de los Peques, featuring talented young children performing premieres January 29 at 8p and airs on Sundays.
  • A fifth season of Nuestra Belleza Latina is back on Sunday nights at 8p beginning March 4.

  • In primetime, Univision will continue airing three hours of novelas Monday through Friday at 7, 8 and 9p.
  • Further in primetime, Univision will offer a combination of new and returning series in the 10p time period: Don Francisco Presenta on Mondays in its 10th season; Aqui y Ahora (Here and Now) continues on Tuesdays; La Rosa de Guadalupe (The Rose of Guadalupe) is back on Thursdays and Fridays while on Sundays the entertainment show Sal y Pimienta (Salt and Pepper) returns.

Spin-off series, Cajun Pawn Stars debuts on HISTORY January 8 at 10p.  Similar to the original Pawn Stars series set in Las Vegas, Cajun Pawn Stars features historical items and stories found at the Silver Dollar Pawn & Jewelry Center in Alexandria, Louisiana owned and operated by Jimmie DeRamus and his family.  HISTORY will have 14 half-hour episodes of Cajun Pawn Stars produced by Leftfield Pictures.

In mid-January, G4 bows another new Marvel anime series when Blade debuts January 13 at 11p.  G4 has scheduled a dozen half-hour weekly episodes featuring the voice of Harold Perrineau as Eric Brooks, the supernatural Daywalker known as Blade.  Produced by Madhouse for Marvel Entertainment and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan, the series is distributed by Sony Pictures Television.
