Rosie O’Donnell returns to daytime television exclusively on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network as she helms a new daily talk show slated to premiere in 2011. The one-hour program, described as fun and uplifting, will be produced by O’Donnell and based in New York.  The show was brought to OWN by SantaBu LLC, run by Dick Robertson and Scott Carlin. Previously, O’Donnell hosted her former daytime talk show The Rosie O’Donnell Show from 1996-2002 for Warner Bros., and later in 2006 replaced Meredith Vieira as co-host and moderator on ABC’s The View.

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Mary Hart, the long-time host of Entertainment Tonight, declared yesterday the upcoming 30th season of the syndicated show would be her last. Hart began on ET in 1982 and officially there has been no announcement as to who will replace her as host of the magazine show. ET’s 30th season kicks off September 13.

Next Tuesday, Oxygen debuts a new competition series, Hair Battle Spectacular starting at 10p. Hosted by Brooke Burns, the series follows ten top stylists as they compete to see who can out-do with the best, over-the-top fantasy hair design. Judges for the series include fantasy hair designer, Derek J, celebrity stylist Lindsay Albanese and a rotating guest judge. The ultimate winner will receive $100,000. The show, produced by 3 Ball Productions, will follow Bad Girls Club Miami on Tuesdays at 10p.

NBC will substitute further episodes of Breakthrough with Tony Robbins featuring (had aired twice on Tuesday nights at 8p) with repeats of Minute to Win It gamer, effective immediately.  On it’s second outing this week, Breakthrough delivered a soft 0.7 A18-49 rating.  No information yet on where the other four produced episode will air – be it on air or online.

CNBC premieres the new docu-series CNBC Bizography beginning next Wednesday at 9p, profiling top business icons and companies with narrator actor JK Simmons. FlashRock Films produced six episodes of the series including the opening episode highlighting businessman and boxing legend, George Forman. Future episodes will look at Ted Turner and Hugh Hefner to Proctor & Gamble and Target. Following the premiere on August 11 at 10p, the first episode will re-air on August 15 at 9p.

Adult Swim is expanding its original live-action comedy show Delocated! from a 15-minute format to half-hour episodes for its new second season opening August 22 at 10p. Delocated! is from creator/executive producer and star Jon Glaser with co-executive producers Vernon Chatman, John Lee and Alyson Levy.

SNY, the TV home for the New York Mets, Jets and Big East Conference, in partnership with The University of Connecticut made a comprehensive, multi-year deal making SNY the official TV home of the UConn Huskies football and men’s basketball. Starting in September, SNY will cover 300 hours of UConn programming including 120 hours of Huskies game coverage encompassing at least five live football games in 2010. Furthermore, SNY will increase its UConn sports coverage during its sports news and entertainment programming including on its SportsNite show, airing Monday-Sunday at 10p, 1a and during the morning. SNY will also offer a dedicated UConn Huskies sports area on the network’s website at www.SNY.tv .

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

FOX announced officially Nigel Lythgoe is back as Executive Producer of American Idol for the show’s tenth season premiering next January. Lythgoe will serve as EP along with Simon Fuller, Cecile Frot-Coutaz and Ken Warwick. Lythgoe is co-founder of Big Red 2 Entertainment along with American Idol creator Simon Fuller and CKX.

Citizen Skull Productions and The Monkey Goes are developing a new reality series featuring Al Sharpton and some of his family members in The Other Sharptons. The series will feature Brittany Sharpton who works as a financial advisor to professional athletes, her younger sister Brooke and their brother Daryl, a rookie linebacker with the Houston Texans. The show will also include top athletes from every sport. Mark Myers, Jon Reitzes and Matt Pickar will executive produce.

Veteran actress Joanna Cassidy (Six Feet Under, Buffalo Bill) landed a role on ABC’s new drama series Body of Proof, per TV Guide. Cassidy will play mom to Dana Delany’s character, Megan. Body of Proof will run on Fridays this fall, with a premiere date to be announced.

~ RATINGS ~

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis: NBC moved into first place Wednesday night at 2.2/7 with the A18-49 demo, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. CBS won at 8p with Big Brother 12 at 2.4/8 and NBC’s Minute to Win It was #2 at 2.1/7. NBC topped with America’s Got Talent during 9p by posting a 2.8/8 followed by UNIV’s Soy Tu Duena at 2.4/7. NBC finished the night in the winner’s circle with a Law & Order: SVU rebroadcast at 1.7/5 and UNIV had a second place showing with Don Francisco Presenta at 1.1/4.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

 

Marc Zimet was upped to VP/Music Programming and Talent Relations with MTV Latin America (MTVNLA) and Tr3s: MTV, Musica y Mas. Marc will now head the development and implementation as well as management of the pan-regional music goals for MTV/VH1 Latin America in addition to the music strategy for Tr3s: MTV, Musica y Mas in the US. He will serve as the main contact between MTVNLA/Tr3s and artists, record labels, management companies and talent agencies in the US, Europe and Latin America and will additionally supervise a team of seven music professionals in the region.

Giovanna Savorgnan-Smith was appointed GSM of KHBS-KHOG/Fort Smith-Fayetteville, AR, owned by Hearst Television Inc. Previously, Giovanna was LSM for WDSU/New Orleans, also a Hearst-owned station, for the last ten years.

LATV Networks added Andres Rincon as an Ad Sales Director. Andres will spearhead new business in Texas in addition to representing LATV’s weekly half-hour syndicated shows, American Latino and LatiNation. Based in New York, Andres will report to David Morales, VP/Sales and Distribution.

Fathom Communications, an Omnicom company, in its Chicago office tapped Bob Raczka as Associate Creative Director/Writer and Mark Wiegard as Associate Creative Director/Art Director. Bob in his newly-created position will create and co-supervise marketing campaigns from idea to completion. Mark in his newly-created position will be in charge of creating and managing campaigns for Navistar brands including International Truck and Monaco RV.
