~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

The continuing saga of filling the American Idol judges’ chairs continues, and it could delay production of the FOX series, which is due to begin on Tuesday, September 3. The collapse of songwriter/producer Dr. Luke‘s deal has left the show scrambling. It’s been reported that Harry Connick Jr. has been approached about joining the panel, again.

TLC is introducing another big, loving polygamous family. My Five Wives features Brady Williams, his wives and their combined 24 children, who all live together on their large property outside Salt Lake City, Utah. The special premieres Sunday, September 15 at 9p, following a new episode of Sister Wives.

The Queen Latifah Show will launch with major star power. John Travolta, Jamie Foxx, Sharon Stone, Jake Gyllenhaal and Will Smith, an executive producer on the SPT talker, will be among its first guests. The show debuts Monday, September 16 on CBS-owned stations in top markets and other TV stations.

The star fireworks continue when Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell kicks off on FXX. The show’s lineup features Jim Gaffigan on Wednesday, September 4, Tracy Morgan on Thursday, September 5, and Chris Rock on Monday, September 9. The series airs Monday through Thursday at 11p.

New PBS series A Chef’s Life will take viewers inside the life and kitchen of acclaimed cook Vivian Howard, who left the big city to open a fine dining restaurant in small-town Eastern North Carolina. A celebration of true Southern farm to table food, the 13-week series premieres in September.

The ladies of TV One‘s R&B Divas LA are reuniting and dishing about their time in the City of Angels. R&B Divas LA – Reunion Part 1 airs Wednesday, September 4 at 10p. R&B Divas LA  Reunion – Part 2 airs Wednesday, September 11 at 10p. Wendy Williams will host.

YouTube series Jack Hanna’s Wild Countdown Summer Sneak Peek launches on Saturday, August 31. Episodes will be available at www.youtube.com/SummerSneakPeek.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Board of Governors will bestow this year’s Governors Award to Emmy Award-winning voice actress June Foray. Foray, whose career has spanned more than 80 years, is often referred to as The First Lady of Cartoon Voices.

Adult Swim is joining forces with Kia Motors to develop custom-produced, animated ads promoting the 2014 Kia Soul vehicle. Adult Swim will debut three 30-second ads over three consecutive weeks. The first ad debuted in late August.

~ RETURNING SERIES ~

Parasites, flesh eaters… They’re back, when Monsters Inside Me returns Wednesday, October 2 at 9p.  This season, the series “spotlights nature’s most debilitating viruses and even shows what could happen when foreign objects are ingested or left behind after surgery,” says host/biologist Dan Riskin, who provides scientific perspective.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

FX has ordered the darkly comedic drama Hoke to pilot. Based on a series of novels by Charles Willeford and starring Paul Giamatti, the show centers on hardboiled and possibly insane homicide detective Hoke Moseley. Production is set to begin in Miami later this year.

There’s another single dad series brewing. CBS has made a script deal for Raised by Wolves, a half-hour comedy from Fred Savage and Matt Dearborn. The series focuses on a 20-something guy who suddenly becomes a full-time dad to his 7-year-old daughter and helps raise her with his pals.

~ CASTING NEWS ~

Friends star Lisa Kudrow has been tapped for a recurring role on ABC‘s Scandal, when the series returns for a third season on October 3 at 10p.

The Crazy Ones has nabbed another singing superstar. According to EW, Josh Groban will guest star on the CBS comedy’s sixth episode. He’ll play a nerdy guy with a huge crush on Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character, Sydney.

The search for talented tweens and teens continues for Disney Channel and Disney XD. The two networks are hosting an open call audition on Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22 in Wilmington, N.C. For more information, visit DisneyChannel.com/talentsearch.

~ OBITUARIES ~

Documentary filmmaker for American Masters, Gail Levin, died on July 31 in the Bronx, due to complications of metastatic breast cancer. She was 67.
