~ MORE STUFF ~

Making it official, FOX picked up the formerly-canceled comedy Breaking In for a 13-episode second season which will be back on the network’s schedule in 2012.  Breaking In stars Christian Slater and is created by Adam F. Goldberg and Seth Gordon.  The sitcom is produced by Happy Madison Productions, Adam F. Goldberg Productions and Sethsquatch, Inc. in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Following a bidding war between ABC, CBS and NBC, it is expected the Country Music Association Awards will remain on ABC as part of a new agreement.  Reports say the multi-year deal on ABC could reach $30 million per year and include a CMA Music Festival during the summer and a Christmas special.  ABC has aired the CMA Awards since 2005 and before that CBS had rights to the awards event.

A week before its launch date, new NBC comedy Whitney will be available via video on demand on September 15, per B&C.  Whitney, starring comedienne Whitney Cummings and Chris D’Elia makes its broadcast introduction on NBC’s fall schedule September 22 at 930p.

Two comedies bulk up Monday nights on HBO later this year as Angry Boys premieres with 12 episodes on December 5 and The Life and Times of Tim is back with a 10-episode third season starting December 19.  Angry Boys is from creator Chris Lilley and is a mockumentary-style series about the lives, dreams and aspirations of modern guys with Lilley playing all six characters.  The animated comedy, The Life and Times of Tim is from creator Steve Dildarian about an average guy whose instincts always lead him down the wrong path.

The reality competition series, Work of Art: The Next Great Artist counting Sarah Jessica Parker as one of the executive producers, is making a comeback on Bravo beginning October 12 at 9p.  In the new season, fourteen aspiring artists will compete for a solo art show at the Brooklyn Museum and a cash prize of $100,000. Host and judge, China Chow returns to the show along with judges Bill Powers, a New York gallery owner and literary art contributor as well as Jerry Saltz, senior art critic for New York Magazine.  In addition, world-famous art auctioneer Simon de Pury is a mentor to the contestants.  Work of Art: The Next Great Artist is produced by Pretty Matches and Magical Elves for Bravo.  Along with Parker, other executive producers are Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz, Alison Benson and Eli Holzman.

USA Network approved a fourth season of White Collar with an order for 16 episodes, reports Variety.  Production on the fourth season commences next year by production company Fox Television Studios.  The first half of White Collar’s third season this summer pulled in an average of 5.7 million total viewers and 2.5 million among A18-49.

New episodes of Gene Simmons Family Jewels return to A&E Network’s schedule starting October 4 at 9p.

On September 1, country music cable network Great American Country (GAC) launches a new branding campaign under the moniker “Living Country.”  The roll out includes new on-air graphics and new programs such as Day Jobs, a series following country music stars as they return to jobs they had before making it big.  A sneak preview of Day Jobs will air September 14 featuring Trace Atkins and the series debuts October 2.  Other new programs consist of Tom’s Wild Life opening September 18 and new episodes of Backstory begin September 11 and Origins on October 12.

Michael Showers, who had a recurring role on HBO’s series Treme was found dead in the Mississippi River in New Orleans on Wednesday.  An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death to the 45-year old actor.  On Treme, Showers played New Orleans police Capt. John Guidry. He had also appeared in Breaking Bad and The Vampire Diaries.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & COVERAGE ~

FOX made an affiliation deal with LIN Television Corporation (LIN Media), allowing WTHI to become a new FOX affiliate in Terre Haute, Indiana.  The new station becomes a FOX station as of September 1 and will be known as “MyFOX10.”  WTHI-TV will operate out of its digital broadcasting studio.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Shonda Rhimes, creator of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice has sold a new period drama project to ABC titled Gilded Lillys.  The drama is set in 1895 about a luxurious hotel, the family who owns it and the hotel’s staff and the guests who stay at the hotel.  K.J. Steinberg is writing the script and so far ABC granted a script pick-up of the project.  ABC Studios will produce Gilded Lillys and Rhimes will be executive producer along with Betsy Beers.  Rhimes also has the new political drama Scandal on the midseason roster at ABC.

The Western genre continues to pop up, this time at NBC. The network okayed a western script told from a female perspective with Friday Night Lights’ Pete Berg and Liz Heldens behind the project.  Details on the storyline are not available yet.  Universal Media Studios is producing along with Berg’s Film 44.  Berg, Heldens and Sarah Aubrey all will serve as executive producers; Heldens will additional write.

A comedy script from Sony Pictures Television and Jamie Tarses’ FanFare Productions was picked up by CBS, reports Variety.  The comedy is about a well-intentioned family man who wants to be the perfect dad while his own perfect dad also lives with his family.  Tarses will executive produce the project with Jeff Rake who will also pen the script.

HBO signed a holding deal with Diane Keaton even though her pilot project Tilda did make it to series last year.  HBO is searching for the right project with her in mind.

Heather Graham, traditionally a film actress, is giving the small screen another try in FOX’s comedy pilot Little In Common.  The single-camera sitcom is about the Wellers (Rob Corddry, Graham) who move from California to Texas and find it is not that easy to adjust to a new state and new neighbors.  Paula Marshall previously played Graham’s female lead role in the original pilot.  Graham had starred in the short-lived ABC comedy Emily’s Reasons Why Not and played a recurring role in Scrubs.

Boy Meets World alum Anthony Tyler Quinn is joining ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars, cites EW.  Playing Ron, an old friend and colleague of Aria’s dad Bryon (Chad Lowe), Quinn will appear in one episode to begin with and multiple episodes in the second half of season two in early 2012.

HBO’s Game of Thrones continues to add to its cast roster for season two, this time tapping Lucian Msamati for the role as pirate Salladhor Saan, per EW.  HBO viewers might recognize the British film and stage actor from his former role on the premium network’s No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency.
