~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Frosh original series Suits received a second season pick up by USA Network.  The network gave the series an order of 16 one-hour episodes.  Suits, starring Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Rick Hoffman Gina Torres, Sarah Rafferty and Meghan Markle, debuted June 23 and the final 12th episode of season one will conclude September 8 at 10p. Suits is produced by Universal Cable Productions.  USA Network is additionally renewing In Plain Sight for a fifth and final season with eight episodes slated to premiere in spring 2012.  During its fourth season, which ended last Sunday, In Plain Sight averaged 4.9 million viewers.  Shot on location in Albuquerque, In Plain Sight is also from Universal Cable Productions.

USA Network further is bringing back a sixth season of Psych this fall beginning October 12 at 10p.  Starring James Roday and Dule’ Hill, Psych has a number of guest stars lined up for the new season including Danny Glover, Kristy Swanson, Corey Feldman, Joey McIntyre, Malcolm McDowell, Jason Priestley, John Rhys Davies, Wade Boggs, Molly Ringwald and WWE Superstar The Miz.

A 12-episode fifth season is in store for HBO’s True Blood created and executive produced by Alan Ball.  Production on the new episodes will commence later this year in Los Angeles and premiere in summer 2012.  Currently, the fourth season of True Blood is underway with 12 total episodes that premiered on June 26.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

Litton Entertainment added Born to Explore with Richard Wiese, one of six original hi-def series that are part of Litton’s Weekend Adventure block airing on Saturdays.  Born to Explore will debut September 3 on more than 95% of ABC affiliates nationwide.  The series, led by host Richard Wiese, travels the globe in search of adventure, wildlife and cultures far away from modern civilization.  Produced by Litton Studios, the three-hour Litton’s Weekend Adventure block is comprised of six hi-def original E/I series and also includes Jack Hanna’s Wild Countdown, Ocean Mysteries with Jeff Corwin, Everyday Health, Food for Thought with Claire Thomas; and Culture Click.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Bryan Fuller, creator of Pushing Daisies is attempting another reboot of The Munsters at NBC.  Last year, Fuller talked with NBC executives about a remake of the 1960s classic TV series though the network passed on the script.  Fuller’s vision of The Munsters remake is an edgier, darker hour-long show which may delve into the origins of the characters though will still retain the humor.  The original characters will all make comebacks from Herman Munster, his wife Lily Munster, eccentric Grandpa, son Eddie Munster and the normal niece Marilyn Munster. Universal Media Studios will produce the project.  Universal Studios produced the original The Munsters series with 70 episodes which originally aired on CBS from 1964 to 1966.  Just a few days ago, NBC also announced it is developing a new Frankenstein series from House executive producers Garrett Lerner and Russel Friend.

truTV is teaming for the first time with Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg’s Katalyst on a new series, California DMV: Field Offices (wt).  The show will go inside the California Department of Motor Vehicles taking a look at what the DMV personnel have to deal with everyday, from issuing licenses and registering vehicles to maintaining accident records and investigation complaints.  Hedda Muskat will serve as executive producer; for truTV, Anthony Horn is the executive in charge of production.

NBC’s upcoming new comedy Whitney has recast the role of Whitney’s mother.  Previously, Beverly D’Angelo played the role in the pilot and now Jane Kaczmarek (Malcolm in the Middle) was tagged to take over the role. Scenes from the original pilot will be reshot to include Kaczmarek.  The multi-camera comedy will premiere September 22 and be the lead-in to the new US version of Prime Suspect.

A.J. Langer (My So-Called Life) landed a recurring role on ABC’s Private Practice playing Erica, described as a person who was involved with one of the doctor’s in the past.

Comedian Anthony Jeselnik signed a development deal with Comedy Central to star in and executive produce a project that will begin production early next year.  Christie Smith is also on board as an executive producer.  Jeselnik has made several appearances on Comedy Central, most recently in Comedy Central’s Roast of Donald Trump earlier this year.

Showtime’s half-hour series Nurse Jackie added Bobby Cannavale as guest star for 10 episodes.  Cannavale will play a hospital administrator sent to All Saint’s Hospital by the new owner to organize the business and increase profits.  Season four of Nurse Jackie launches early next year.
