USA Network serves up new seasons of two returning series on the same night back-to-back as Royal Pains debuts June 3 at 9p followed by Burn Notice at 10p. Universal Cable Productions produces Royal Pains while Fox Television Studios and Fuse Entertainment produces Burn Notice.

Discovery Channel also has back-to-back premieres scheduled on the same night later this month as Deadliest Catch opens its sixth season with 16 episodes on April 13 at 9p followed by the new series launch of Construction Intervention at 10p. In the new season of Deadliest Catch, the crab fishermen must deal with dangerous weather conditions, crew conflict and the death of Capt. Phil Harris. Construction Intervention centers on Charlie “The Bulldog” Frattini, a 20-year construction expert who manages some of the largest projects in New York City. Both series will continue to air on Tuesday nights at their respective times.

This summer, Animal Planet is bringing back new episodes of its series Dogs 101 and Cats 101, sharing traits of unusual and common breeds of both animals. Animal Planet also announced it is expanding this franchise in a special episode showcasing the pros and cons of other potential pets such as parrots, rabbits and geckos. Powderhouse Productions produces Dogs 101 and Cats 101 for Animal Planet.

GolTV picked up the exclusive US TV rights for the first-ever international soccer-themed reality series, Soccer Aces. The series will travel around the world offering up-and-coming players a chance to try for the professional leagues. Legendary soccer players Zinedine Zidane and Enzo Francescoli will judge all contestants. GolTV will debut the series on April 27. The only show tryout in the US will be held in Houston on April 10. Players trying for the show must be 18 years or older. Information about the tryouts can be found at www.socceracestv.com or www.goltv.tv .

Univision Interactive Media, Inc., the digital component of Univision Communications Inc. is teaming with online gaming information destination, GameSpot. The alliance covers GameSpot providing content for a new Spanish-language gaming site at Univision.com. In turn, Univision will share with GameStop the results of a proprietary gaming research study it conducted revealing growth in the US Hispanic gaming market.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

Si TV made a multi-year carriage extension deal with Dish Network. The English-language network serving the Latino community, will continue to be found on Dish Network’s Classic Silver 200 and Classic Gold 250 programming packages and via many Dish Latino packages.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

E1 Entertainment is working with Tijuana Entertainment and LA Laker’s forward, Ron Artest to develop and produce the reality series, They Call Me Crazy. With the reputation of being a bad boy, the series will reveal a different side of Artest as he offers mentorship to aspiring artists through his hip-hop label, Tru Warier which will receive support with marketing and distribution from E1 Music. Artest will serve as executive producer through his Tru Warier Enterprises, Inc. Other executive producers on the project include E1 Entertainment’s John Moranyniss and Tara Long as well as Tijuana’s Troy Searer and John Foy. E1 will also manage global distribution for the series.

Former CNBC reporter, Rebecca Jarvis joined CBS’ The Early Show as Newsreader for the Saturday edition in addition to becoming the Business and Economics Correspondent for CBS News. Jarvis is based in New York and her new position began yesterday.

S. Epatha Merkerson, a 16-year veteran of NBC’s Law & Order has asked show producers to end her contract following this current 20th season. Merkerson handed in her request before the drama went into production on the final episode this season so her character can have a proper send-off. Throughout her years on the show, Merkerson has appeared in nearly 400 episodes of the cop drama. NBC is hoping to close an off-network deal with TNT which would offset production costs and therefore make a 21st season possible.

Casting Call: Doron Ofir Casting announces a pair of casting searches for two new food series. Both series are looking for professionals who have a broad knowledge of food such as executive-level chefs, sous chefs, cooks, grill masters, bakers, professional food bloggers, food critics, competitive cooking winners or caterers.

  • Series one is a buddy tasting road trip seeking a duo with outgoing, adventurous personalities, talent and food expertise. The selected couple can be cousins, friends, rivals or married.
  • The second series is looking for bold individuals who are funny, adventurous with larger-than-live personalities with a passion for food and a willingness to try the newest, biggest and best culinary finds in the world. All interested applicants must apply online via www.foodhostscasting.com.
