THR reports Vieira has been considering a departure from Today for some time and made the decision this week based on apparent personal reasons to spend more time with her family. With negotiations underway, NBC is considering a series based on John Grisham’s novel The Firm produced by eOne Television in association with Sony Pictures Television’s Networks Group and Paramount Pictures. Paramount owns the rights to the novel and produced the 1993 film of the same name, starring Tom Cruise. The two-hour pilot script is penned by Lukas Reiter and the plot picks up ten years after the movie left off with main character Mitch McDeere coming out of the Federal Witness Protection Program after bringing down a Memphis law firm run by the mob. He soon learns he and his family are in danger. Casting is underway and production will begin in Canada this July. Production company eOne has already sold the project with 22 episodes to more than 125 territories worldwide and The Firm will also air on SPT’s AXN Networks. Grisham and Reiter will executive produce The Firm along with eOne’s John Morayniss, Michael Rosenberg and Noreen Halpern.
Chuck Lorre, co-creator of CBS’ Two and a Half Men, is developing a new version of the sitcom for the network, giving it a fresh creative direction sans former star Charlie Sheen. Lorre apparently presented a plan for the revamped show to close associates and co-star Jon Cryer, upgrading Cryer’s role and introducing a new cast mate, as yet uncast. CBS and the show’s production company Warner Bros. Television is aware of Lorre’s plans. To date, neither CBS nor Warner Bros. have said if Two and a Half Men will be back for a ninth season.
Don Bellisario, the creator of CBS’ NCIS filed a lawsuit yesterday in Los Angeles Superior Court against CBS Studios. Bellisario’s complaint for unspecified damages alleges he was not given the first chance to develop and participate financially in CBS’ NCIS: Los Angeles, the spinoff series of NCIS. Bellisario was let go from the show a few years back.
CBS’ NCIS will see Cote de Pablo back on the drama for the next two seasons as the actress inked a new contract reportedly for $120,000 per episode, supposedly equal to cast member Pauley Perrette’s contract, as well as a bonus.
Season two of Starz’ Spartacus: Blood and Sand added Cynthia Addai-Robinson in the role as Naevia, Lucretia’s “body slave” says EW. During the first season, the role of Naevia was played by Lesley-Ann Brandt who left the show during its extended hiatus. Addai-Robinson most recently appeared in ABC’s FlashForward.
Casting Call: A major cable network casts for candidates living in the Tri-State area to appear on a makeover show. The producers are looking for people with over-the-top, adventurous personalities who will be open to having a skilled stylist be in charge of their hair and clothing. The candidate should be known for wearing drab, outdated clothes; perhaps have a major event in their life that caused their body to change; presently has messy hair; and wants to look as great as their favorite celebrity. The right candidates should be available for a shoot on May 8 and 9. Please send an email to: [email protected] and include full name, age and location; occupation; at least three photos of your everyday wardrobe; an explanation of which celebrity you would like to resemble and why; and include an explanation about why you are the best candidate for a makeover (describe any life events, lack of style, frustration with shopping, lost weight, etc.).
