In its upcoming new reality series, CBS focuses on city pooches, their owners and the behavior of both when Dogs in the City debuts May 30 at 8p. The new series features Justin Silver, a dog trainer who is skilled at finding resolutions between dogs and their owners. Silver figures out solutions for all types of doggie dilemmas including a recently divorced couple whose dog is having a hard time adjusting to joint custody to a couple who wants to move in together but she’s terrified of his golden retriever. CBS’ Raquel Productions Inc. is producing Dogs in the City in association with Shed Media US Inc. and Carol Mendelsohn Productions.
Earlier this week, ABC released some retooling decisions for its daytime lineup. The network is renewing long-time soap, General Hospital coming up on its 50th year. Food talk show, The Chew, which premiered last September and replaced canceled soap All My Children was also renewed though newer health and lifestyle talk show, The Revolution which bowed last January did not make the cut. ABC will end The Revolution in July. In the interim weeks when The Revolution ends and before new talk show Katie starring Katie Couric debuts on September 10, the ABC-owned stations will carry GMA in the Afternoon, a spinoff of the morning daytime program Good Morning America which will highlight many of the same personalities and serve up lighter content and breaking news when necessary.
FOX ordered a double helping of Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen giving the cooking competition series an 11th and a 12th season. Hell’s Kitchen, produced by ITV Studios America in association with A. Smith & Co. Productions is set to premiere season 10 on May 29 at 8p and will add a second night starting June 4 at 9p.
In other news from FOX, the network opted to bench the remaining second season episodes of sitcom Breaking In starring Christian Slater. FOX is pulling the series from its Tuesday primetime schedule and airing in its place at 930p on April 24, May 1 and May 8 will be repeats of New Girl. The remaining episodes of Breaking In will air sometime in the future.
Inaugural episodes of two of HBO’s new upcoming series, Girls and Veep will be made available to non-subscribers of the premium network. The day after each series debuts, the pilot episodes will go live on HBO.com, YouTube, DailyMotion, TV.com and many distributors’ Free On Demand platforms. Veep will additionally be available for download on iTunes. Girls, debuting this Sunday at 1030p will be available to non-subscribers from April 16 to May 14 while Veep, premiering April 22 at 10p will be available to non-subscribers from April 23 to May 1.
A&E Network okayed additional seasons of Storage Wars, Storage Wars: Texas and Shipping Wars, giving each unscripted series 26 episodes with all three set to debut this summer. Storage Wars and its spinoff Storage Wars: Texas is produced by Original Productions and Shipping Wars is produced by Megalomedia.
On Monday, national music television network, Fuse, which is part of The Madison Square Garden Company, presents a new Top 100 series, Top 100 Killer Collabos opening at 8p. The series, which airs each weeknight for two weeks, counts down the best music collaborations in a variety of music genres. The series is hosted by Ashanti, Keri Hilson and Gabe Saporta and concludes with the top ten finale episode on April 27.
The Weather Channel brings back a second season of Coast Guard Alaska beginning next Wednesday at 9p. Produced by Al Roker Entertainment, the series’ new season opens by following Air Station Kodiak swimmers and rescue pilots on two dangerous rescue missions.
Also next Wednesday, Mnet, the US television network aiming at Asian Americans and fans of Asian pop culture, debuts season two of Beats Per Mnet (BPM) at 9p. The show sports a new look, new hosts with Jelynn Sophia and TK Nguyen and new production partners with Cashmere Agency. BPM offers viewers the latest on Asian pop entertainment featuring music to food, fashion and art. Mnet is available nationwide to Verizon FiOS subscribers and via other cable providers.
BET presented its Upfront programming highlights to advertisers in Los Angeles yesterday encompassing two new scripted series, one new reality series and a late night talk show.
Descriptions of BET’s new shows include:
- Second Generation Wayans is based on the lives of the well-known comedy family headlined by Craig Wayans, Damien Dante Wayans and George O. Gore II.
- House Husbands is a semi-scripted comedy styled like Curb Your Enthusiasm starring Kevin Hart and based on a sketch from the 2011 BET Awards.
- BET’s new reality series will star Judge Greg Mathis and explore real unsolved cases.
- The new late night talk show will be helmed by former CNN anchor T.J. Holmes called Don’t Sleep and will incorporate comedy to examine social issues.
BET also approved new seasons of its comedies The Game, Let’s Stay Together and Reed Between the Lines as well as gospel singing competition show Sunday Best. Furthermore, BET will also produce made-for-TV movies under BET Premiere Cinema. The network’s first movie starring Gabrielle Union is titled Being Mary Jane followed by other titles.
BET’s sister network Centric is bringing back Apollo Live, a refreshed show set at the iconic Harlem venue with a singing competition featuring Doug E. Fresh and Michael Bivins as judges and Jamie Foxx, Marcus King and Don Weiner serving as executive producers.
Outdoor Channel host Jose Wejebe, star of the network’s fishing show, Spanish Fly, died last Friday when his single engine plane he was piloting crashed soon after takeoff in Everglades Airpark. He was 54. As host of the weekly series Spanish Fly, Mr. Wejebe took viewers on journeys around the world to adventure fishing spots including the Seychelles off the east coast of Africa to the Coral Sea off the coast of Australia, to Argentina, Costa Rica, Panama and more. Outdoor Channel will pay tribute to Mr. Wejebe by airing a special episode of Spanish Fly: A Tribute to Jose Wejebe several times this weekend beginning today at 1230p and again at 830p; on Saturday at 11a; and also on Sunday at 10a.

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis: FOX had an easy win Wednesday at 5.0/14 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. American Idol on FOX trounced the competition at 8p with a 4.9/15 with next in line Survivor: One World on CBS delivering a 2.7/8. FOX held its own at 9p with more American Idol at 5.3/14 and ABC was second place with an average of 3.6/9 for established comedy Modern Family paired with the series debut of Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23 (ABC’s new sitcom posted a 2.9/7 in the demo at 930p). CBS had a turn in first place during 10p as CSI pulled in a 2.4/6 followed by NBC’s Law & Order: SVU at 1.7/4.
