IN THE NEWS |
Paramount’s MTV Networks has canceled “Ridiculousness” after 14 years and more than 1,700 episodes. Hosted by comedian Rob Dyrdek, the clip series will continue into next year with first-run episodes that have been previously shot, but no new installments will be produced. Season 46 will be the last for the series, with reruns continuing on MTV and select episodes streaming on Paramount+.
Netflix has hired Moelis & Co. to explore a possible bid for Warner Bros. Discovery, according to reports. WBD officially put out the For Sale sign earlier this month, after acknowledging it had received unsolicited bids from multiple parties. Skydance, the company headed by David Ellison that completed an $8.2 billion purchase of Paramount in August, reportedly submitted at least two bids for WBD that were rebuffed. Netflix earlier denied any interest in owning any of WBD’s linear networks but apparently has a different attitude towards its studio assets, and is looking into a possible bid, according to Reuters. Paramount is expected to launch another offering for the company; other possible bidders include Comcast.
Disney networks went dark on YouTube TV on Thursday night at 11:15p, ahead of the Friday midnight deadline, after the two failed to reach a carriage agreement. Going into the weekend, about 10 million YouTube TV viewers were without networks ABC, ESPN, FX, National Geographic and others. YouTube TV has said it will credit subscribers up to $20 if the impasse lasts “an extended period of time.” On Saturday morning, ESPN made “College Game Day” available on X through host Pat McAfee’s X feed.
CBS News contributor Lisa Ling is one of the 1,000 Paramount Skydance employees to get the axe amid its latest round of layoffs. In an Instagram posting, Ling said she wasn’t surprised by the layoff “because I wasn’t a full-time employee, but rather a contributor, and we’re easy to cut.” She added that her heart “goes out to all of those who had been working at the network for many, many years.” Paramount said Thursday that it would lay off about 1,000 employees across the company. According to reports, about 100 of those layoffs were at CBS News. Another round of cuts is expected at Paramount early next year. |
