   IN THE NEWS

NewsNation will provide viewers with special coverage of the 2024 Presidential election leading up to Nov. 5, including expanded coverage on election night. The network will partner with Decision Desk HQ to provide real-time election results, voting analysis and projections, and race calls. On election night the network will present “NewsNation Decision Desk 2024,” co-anchored by Chris Cuomo, Elizabeth Vargas, and Leland Vittert from 6p to 1a. The CW Network will provide a simulcast of NewsNation’s election night coverage from 8 p – 12 a. “The Hill Sunday” will present a special edition on November 3 and on November 6, “Morning in America” will begin an hour earlier than usual, from 5a-9a. Other programming will include special segments like “Swing State Spotlight” and “Driving the Vote.”

FOX Business Network will present a special – “The Crypto Campaign” – on October 25 at 8p, hosted by “The Bottom Line with Dagen & Duffy” co-host Sean Duffy and will look at the world of cryptocurrency and how blockchain technology could change the way society works. Duffy will be joined by entrepreneur Kevin O’Leary, Professional Capital Management founder & CEO Anthony Pompliano, SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce, Robinhood Markets Chief Legal, Compliance & Corporate Affairs Officer Dan Gallagher, bitcoin educator Natalie Brunell, and Brad Myers, co-founder of Early Riders.

CTV advertising innovation is expanding but is fragmented, with 40% of providers accepting 15 different ad formats, according to IAB’s latest report, “Connected TV (CTV) Ad Format Landscape: How Standardization Can Drive Programmatic Growth and Innovation.” The report explores how innovation in immersive, interactive ads can benefit both advertisers and viewers, fostering a mutually beneficial ecosystem. Based on an IAB survey, the report offers an overview of established and emerging CTV ad formats, highlighting the urgent need for standardization. On that note, IAB also is utilizing a linear TV talent show format to help standardize advertising formats for the CTV marketplace — “Ad Format Idol” – where it is inviting industry contestants to submit CTV ad formats. Stakeholders can submit their top CTV ad formats from October 22 to January 22, 2025, with the most popular formats revealed in Q1 2025.

Fuse Media’s owned and operated FAST channels have recorded their best growth to date and reached a combined 1 billion minutes watched in Q324, up 52% vs the prior year. Fuse’s suite of FAST channels includes “Shades of Black,” which had its best quarter ever and is up double digits over the prior and year ago quarters; “El Rey Rebel” which scored its best quarter ever in Q324 (+466% vs Q323); celebrity focused “Backstage,” which is also enjoying its best year to date, up 22% from a year ago; Latino -focused comedy channel, “Latino Vibes,” which has more than doubled YAGO for the 6th straight month; and “OUTtv Proud,” in partnership with OUTtv, which had its best quarter ever in 3Q24, more than tripling its year ago performance (+273%).

More individuals under 30 years old express as feminine, while more of those over that age express as masculine, according to a new study by Alltold and Innovid – “The State of Representation in CTV Advertising.” The report breaks down the representation of six identity dimensions – age, gender expression, skin tone, body size, observed sexual orientation, and visible disability – from billions of impressions of top-served ads by Innovid in 1H24. Alltold’s technology annotated each detected person to uncover the percentage of people detected for each dimension and the screen time they received. According to the study:
· The lightest four skin tones account for more than 70% of screen time
· Small- and medium-sized bodies were represented approximately 93% of the time
· Less than 1% of people shown on screen had a visible disability

SuperBloom House and Purveyors of Pop (“Real Housewives,” “Married to Medicine”) are developing a new reality series – “Mystery Voyages”featuring Virgin Voyages founder Richard Branson and set on Virgin’s newest cruise ship “Brilliant Lady.” The series is being developed as both an entertainment and an advertising feature, with the brand, creators and producers all working to solve a marketing challenge. Casting and packaging are currently underway. In addition, SBH has been named Virgin Voyages’ first-ever Entertainment Partner, helping the company explore new ways of leveraging traditional entertainment channels to reach consumers in more engaging and unexpected ways. Through the partnership, the brand plans to tap into major pop culture phenomena like “White Lotus,” “Traitors,” “Saltburn” (and accompanying TikTok posts) driving consumers to plan vacations around what they’ve seen on streaming TV.

Paramount+ has renewed original series “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” for a second season. Emmy-winner Tatiana Maslany (”Orphan Black”) will be a recurring special guest star in season one, which is currently in production in Toronto.

   NEW & RETURNING SHOWS

Global food authority and TV personality Andrew Zimmern returns to Asia with the launch of the brand-new culinary travel series “Eat Like a Local.” Co-produced by Singapore-based Hazelnut Media and Intuitive Content, the 10-part series is set to premiere in 2025.

CBS has given a second season order for “Matlock” the new drama starring Kathy Bates, for the 2025-26 broadcast season. The show, a reimagined version of the classic television series of the same name, has been “Certified Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes with a 100% average Tomatometer score. “Matlock” airs on Thursdays at 9p on the CBS Television Network and is available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.

TLC is gearing up a slate of new episodes for several reality series next month, starting November 4 with “(500) Days of Bummer,” (“90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way”) and “Sharing a Bed With My Mother-in-Law” (I Love a Mama’s Boy”). On November 10, “Sister Wives” returns with ‘Baptism by Fire.” On November 12, new episodes of “1,000-LB Sisters” kick off with “Carbe Diem,” while “1,000-LB Best Friends” airs “Matchmaker, Make Me a Plate.”

   STREAMING

FuboTV said it has launched three standalone premium subscription services, allowing consumers to subscribe to select live and on demand content without a base Fubo channel plan – “FanDuel Sports Network” (formerly Bally Sports Network), which is currently live on Fubo in select markets; “NBA League Pass” and “Paramount+ With Showtime.” These networks continue to be available in Fubo’s Pro base plan or as add-on channel packages. Subscribers to these standalone packages will also receive Fubo Free, with nearly 200 free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channels. The streamer said the standalone packages are a key part of its Super Aggregation strategy to offer flexible content bundles at different price points. Fubo said it will now offer three different channel plan tiers: Fubo Free; Premium Subscription Services; and Virtual MVPD.

   SPORTS REPORT

Ad engagement for the WNBA increased 16% year-over-year, according to TV outcomes company EDO. EDO found that through game 3 of the WNBA Finals, advertising was 14% more effective at driving engagement compared to the primetime average, and 25% more effective than the WNBA regular season. That, said the researcher, means that advertisers would need to air 3 spots in competitive primetime programming to generate the same engagement as a single ad during the WNBA Finals.

Calamos Investments said it has reached a multi-year extension of its partnership with the Chicago Bulls and has signed on as a sponsor of the newly launched Chicago Sports Network (CHSN), the exclusive broadcaster and streaming provider for all live, pregame and postgame Chicago Bulls, Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago White Sox coverage. As part of the agreement, Calamos will unveil a series of commercials that will air throughout the Bulls’ 2024-2025 season.

Select SiriusXM subscribers in the U.S. are now able to get up to a 6-month subscription to ESPN+, and new and existing ESPN+ subscribers in the U.S. will be eligible to get a 6-month subscription to SiriusXM’s streaming-only service beginning later this month. ESPN+ subscribers will be able to access SiriusXM’s full library of content on the SiriusXM app, including hundreds of ad-free music channels, live pro and college sporting events in audio, and more than 20 sports-focused channels. Eligible SiriusXM subscribers, beginning with Platinum VIP and expanding to additional tiers next month, can access ESPN+.

In the latest DraftKings NBA commercial, which began airing October 21, NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal makes his on-screen debut with the brand alongside Kevin Hart and former WNBA star Lisa “The Dominant” Leslie. The 30-second spot, which will run nationally, highlights DraftKings various player prop offerings from first buckets to points, and more.

   TECH TALK

Double Verify has expanded its independent media quality measurement coverage to include LinkedIn’s premium video inventory, enabling advertisers to ensure their video ads on LinkedIn are viewable and safe from IVT on LinkedIn. Advertisers can access measurement data and insights through DV Pinnacle, the company’s unified service and analytics reporting platform, to monitor and optimize the performance of their LinkedIn ads campaigns.

Healthcare company Haleon partnered with CreativeX for an AI-powered tool aimed at improving inclusivity and representation across its digital advertising content. Called the Health Inclusivity Screener, Haleon claims it is the only data driven tool of its kind to analyze digital advertising content for both readability and inclusivity metrics. Haleon said it has successfully piloted the tool in nine markets – Australia, Colombia, Egypt, Malaysia, Saudia Arabia, South Africa, Sweden, UAE and UK3 – and intends to extend the tool to other markets and global brands over time.

   GOING GLOBAL

Banijay Rights said the BBC has acquired new crime drama series “The One That Got Away” for BBC Wales, BBC Four and BBC iPlayer. Produced by BlackLight TV, the series has also been acquired by SVT in Sweden, RTÉ in Ireland and Warner Bros Discovery in New Zealand in deals negotiated by the Banijay Rights global sales team.

IMG has renewed and expanded its partnership with the Netherlands professional football league Eredivisie through to 2030. Under the new agreement, IMG will continue to distribute the international media rights for the Eredivisie and provide global advisory services to grow the league and its brand around the world. IMG has represented the Eredivisie’s international media rights for more than 20 years, expanding its reach to 142 countries and territories through 35 broadcast partners. IMG will continue to distribute the league’s media rights in all international regions, excluding the Netherlands, for the next five seasons.

Nippon TV said Greek national television station Alpha TV has acquired the scripted format rights to drama series “Mother” and will be remaking the series for the Greek audience, titled “Na me les mama (Call me Mom).”

All3Media International has signed its first round of pre-sales with broadcasters around the world for the upcoming feature-length documentary, “Trump: The Criminal Conspiracy Case.” The documentary is scheduled to premiere on BBC Two in the UK on October 23. In addition, All3Media has signed deals in key territories for new crime series “Critical Incident” in the US and New Zealand. Streaming service Hulu will exclusively debut all episodes of “Critical Incident.” All3Media International also announced that it has signed an agreement between production companies Luyworks Media and Something Special to adapt and produce “The Traitors” for the Korean market.

Cineflix Rights said it has sold series “Irvine Welsh’s Crime,” to TELEFONICA’s pay TV platform Movistar Plus+ (Spain), SBS (Australia), RTE (Ireland), Blue Entertainment (Switzerland), and Canal+ for viewers in Luxembourg, Hungary, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the Netherlands.

Blue Ant Media has formed a partnership with Pluto TV, which includes the launch of two Blue Ant-owned and operated FAST channels, “Love Nature” and “Homeful,” and a multi-genre content licensing package for the free streaming platform in the U.S. The deal marks the first Blue Ant Media FAST channel launch on Pluto TV in the U.S.

   RATINGS

The 42nd season of “Wheel of Fortune” with new host Ryan Seacrest and co-host Vanna White delivered its best premiere month audience in three years, reaching nearly 40 million viewers and making it the No.1 series on television. The show averaged 7.99 million total viewers this season-to-date, beating every series in primetime during the month of September. Viewership was up +12% vs. last season’s premiere month and the show is up 3% in the A25-54 demo in the first month of the season compared to the same period last season.

About 6.8 million viewers tuned in across FS1, FOX Deportes and FOX Sports streaming services for the Los Angeles Dodgers’ NLCS-clinching Game 6 victory, the best performance since 2019. On FS1, 6,272,000 viewers tuned in for NLCS Game 6, marking the most-watched telecast on the network since the New York Yankees-Houston Astros ALCS. The peak audience of 6,973,000 viewers was between 9p-9:15p, with the top available markets being Los Angeles (12.4/38), New York (8.6/22), San Diego (6.7/22), Hartford, CT (4.5/12) and Philadelphia (4.4/12). The contest was also the most-streamed LCS Game 6 in FOX Sports history (157,058 AMA).

During the week of October 14 – 20, FOX News Channel (FNC) led all of cable television with total day viewers for the 41st consecutive week powered by “Special Report’s” interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. In primetime (8p-11p), FNC earned 2.6 million viewers and 331,000 in the 25-54 demo and 1.6 million viewers and 209,000 in the 25-54 demo in total day (6a-6a). “Special Report” saw a 53% increase with 7.8 million viewers and its 1.126 million in the A25-54 segment was up 63%, compared to same period last year. The interview was the second most-watched telecast in cable TV for the week behind Monday Night Football. Additionally, FNC secured 81 of the top 100 telecasts in cable news. FNC’s “The Faulkner Focus’” women’s issues town hall with former President Donald Trump in Georgia on Wednesday nabbed 3.1 million viewers and 440,000 in the 25-54 demo. FOX News Channel’s “Gutfeld!” averaged 3 million viewers and 415,000 in the 25-54 demo for the week.
