Seventy percent of March Madness viewers said they’d be willing to scan a QR code from an ad while watching, with 27% stating they actually did, according to a new study from LG Ad Solutions, “Beyond the Brackets: March Madness Viewer Behavior and Engagement on CTV.” Other findings include:
· 73% of CTV users typically watch March Madness and 48% watched both the Men’s and Women’s tournament in 2024.
· 85% of March Madness viewers were interested in seeing scores or standing for tournament games on their TV Home Screen.
· The Women’s tournament saw a 116% year-over-year increase in total time spent watching in 2024.
· 69% of March Madness viewers would think more positively of a brand that sponsored the Women’s March Madness tournament.
Netflix has jumped to fourth place in Corporate Demand Share, or demand for all original TV content produced under a company’s corporate umbrella, according to Parrot Analytics. Netflix (9.6%) overtook NBCUniversal (9.0%) in 3Qa24 in the category. Subscriber growth correlates strongly with demand for original content, notes Parrot, however, the growth rate of global streaming originals is now down for the sixth time in seven quarters. Netflix remains the dominant player there and its deep content pipeline continues to edge out the competition in terms of supply – in the third quarter, 21.2% of all new streaming originals released were Netflix Originals, versus 14.0% one year ago. The next closest competitor in global supply share for original series is Amazon Prime Video at 13.1%, followed by Disney+ at 9.6%. |

In essay for US News & World Report titled We Created a Monster: Trump Was a TV Fantasy Created for “The Apprentice,” John D. Miller, former chief marketing officer for NBC and NBCUniversal, issued an apology to America. “The image of Trump that we promoted was highly exaggerated. In its own way, it was ‘fake news’ that we spread over America like a heavy snowstorm,” wrote Miller. “I never imagined that the picture we painted of Trump as a successful businessman would help catapult him to the White House.” Describing Trump as an “extraordinarily easy to manipulate” and “remarkably thin-skinned” man with “questionable judgment,” Miller adds, “While we were successful in marketing ‘The Apprentice,’ we also did irreparable harm by creating the false image of Trump as a successful leader. Just a day after the season two premiere of “Shrinking” came word at New York Comic Con that Apple TV+ has ordered a third run of the therapy sitcom. “I’m so lucky to work on ‘Shrinking’ with actors, writers and a crew so talented that they all elevate the material,” said co-creator and executive producer Bill Lawrence. “I’m even luckier that they are people I’d want to spend time with anyway. Prime Video will air an election night special anchored by Brian Williams, the former NBC News anchor’s first major appearance since leaving MSNBC and NBC News in 2021, and Prime Video’s first time covering a major live news event. “After 41 years in the business — from local news to network shows to cable news — this feels like the next big thing,” said Williams. “Together we will follow the storyline on election night wherever it leads us.” “Election Night Live with Brian Williams” will kick off Tuesday, November 5 at 5p.
Netflix added 5.1 million subscribers in 3Q24, beating expectations of 4.5 million. The streamer’s ad-tier memberships rose 35% quarter over quarter. In total, the streaming service now has 282.7 million memberships across all of its tiers.
Netflix is also now included with a subscription to Dish TV. New Dish customers who sign on for a two-year subscription and have the eligible equipment – including Hopper 3, Hopper Duo, Hopper Plus or Wally receivers and a high-speed internet connection – will get the Netflix Standard Plan.

Meta shared initial results from its work with Blumhouse on recently introduced Meta Movie Gen, a suite of AI models that show how to use simple text inputs to produce custom videos and sounds, edit existing videos, and transform personal images into a unique video. For the pilot, Blumhouse selected a group of filmmakers to test out the technology and provide feedback before its public debut. Meta said filmmakers see potential for Movie Gen as a collaborator and thought partner, with its unexpected response to text prompts inspiring new ideas. “Artists are and forever will be the lifeblood of our industry. ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” will present two games on October 21 across five platforms, including for the first time, a “Monday Night Football” game exclusively on ESPN+. At “MNF’s” traditional time of 8:15p, ESPN, ABC and ESPN Deportes will feature the Baltimore Ravens at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Then, with a kickoff at 9p, ESPN+ will exclusively stream the Los Angeles Chargers at the Arizona Cardinals. All told, fans will have more than four hours of NFL action, including more than two hours with multiple games playing simultaneously.
The FCC announced a proposed fine of $146,976 for six apparent violations of the Emergency Alert System rules by EPSN. The sports net allegedly transmitted, or caused the transmission of, EAS codes during a promotional segment for the start of the 2023-2024 NBA season in the absence of an actual emergency. “These types of violations can raise substantial public safety concerns by causing confusion and in some cases interfering with legitimate emergency uses,” said FCC Enforcement Bureau chief Loyaan A. Egal. “Today’s proposed fine reflects the FCC’s commitment to keep the lines clear when it comes to the proper use of tools broadcasters are entrusted with to assist the public during an emergency.”

Following its record-setting linear growth in week two – the largest audience uptick from a series premiere to second week in over 16 years – “High Potential” became only the second new broadcast drama since FOX’s “Empire” to grow in viewership for two consecutive weeks after its debut.
