Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. and Charter Communications reached a multi-year distribution partnership that will fully integrate linear video and streaming services. Max (Ad Lite), including all HBO and Max content as well as Discovery+, will be available across all Spectrum TV Select packages at no extra charge to customers. The deal extends Spectrum’s carriage of WBD’s linear network portfolio and establishes Max as a “preferred partner” for Spectrum when marketing and selling direct-to-consumer (DTC) apps and bundles to broadband subscribers. “This innovative partnership with Charter recognizes the value of our linear content and the investments we’ve made in premium original programming, sports and news, while also significantly expanding the distribution of Max’s ad-supported service to Spectrum’s millions of Select customers,” said David Zaslav, President and CEO of WBD. “We did this agreement together nearly a year early to set a framework for the future and to provide more consumers access to our unparalleled content offering while giving the industry more resilience as it evolves.”

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Trustbridge Entertainment has acquired rights to develop author Andrew Joseph White’s queer debut novel, Hell Followed with Us, into a full-length animated feature. Producer Lilly Wachowski (“The Matrix,” “Sense8”) and Sarah Marie Flores will oversee development of the project through their Anarchists United shingle. Also producing will be Circle Management + Production Founding Partner Lawrence Mattis (“Work in Progress”), Powerhouse Animation Studios (“Castlevania,” “Masters of the Universe”), and producers Daniel Dominguez (“Gen: Lock,” “Seis Manos”), Brad Graeber (“Castlevania”) and Jacob Robinson (“Skull Island”) of Line Mileage.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Season 57 of CBS’ “60 Minutes” will premiere Sunday, September 15 at 7:30p, immediately following an NFL doubleheader on CBS and Paramount+. The newsmagazine will return with six 90-minute broadcasts and a Monday night primetime election special. In addition, the franchise is expanding to more platforms with a FAST channel, launched September 12.

“Weathered: Earth Extremes” debuts Wednesday, October 2 on PBS. The six-part docuseries follows host and science communicator, Maiya May, as she delves into the impacts of climate change.

“Dexter: Original Sin” premieres Friday, December 13 on streaming and on demand for Paramount+ subscribers with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan, prior to its December 15 US on-air debut.

ABC News Studios said docuseries “Little Miss Innocent: Passion. Poison. Prison.,” will begin streaming on Hulu Friday, September 20. The three-part series tells the story of Kaitlyn Conley, a 31-year-old former receptionist who claims she has been wrongfully convicted of the 2015 killing of Mary Yoder, her former boss and the mother of her ex-boyfriend.

Season 1 of “Elkhorn” airs Monday-Thursday on Western Bound (formerly the Cowboy Way Channel) at 9p, chronicling the life of 25-year-old Theodore Roosevelt.

“The Broadway Show with Tamsen Fadal” will expand its distribution to air in 142 markets across the US. Hosted and executive-produced by Tamsen Fadal, the series is the only nationally syndicated Broadway entertainment television program.

HBO has picked up the half-hour comedy,The Chair Company,” starring, written and executive produced by Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin. The show depicts a man (Robinson) who after an embarrassing incident at work, finds himself investigating a far-reaching conspiracy.

Hearst Media Production Group and Lyda Hill Philanthropies have renewed the weekly television series “Mission Unstoppable” for an additional two seasons (through 2025-2026) on CBS. Season 6 of the program, which airs weekend mornings as part of the CBS WKND educational/informational program block, will debut this fall.

COMING UP

HDNet Movies’ “Terrifying Thursdays” block begins Thursday, October 3 at 6:30p with “My Friend Dahmer,” followed by “Villains” at 8:55p. The month concludes with a day-long Halloween Marathon, featuring all eight films in the in the “Terrifying Thursdays” lineup, on October 31 starting at 8a.

“Svengoolie’s Halloween BOO-Nanza” returns for its third year on MeTV with back-to-back movies every Saturday night in October as part of the “Svengoolie Classic Horror & Sci Fi Movie,” featuring host Svengoolie, aka Rich Koz, celebrating his 45th year of portraying the iconic horror host.

CBS will offer a sneak peek of new high-altitude competition series “The Summit” on Sunday, September 29 at 9p, before the show moves to its regular time slot beginning Wednesday, October 9 at 9:30p, following “Survivor.”

Disney and Pixar’s theatrical hit “Inside Out 2” will make its streaming debut on Disney+ Wednesday, September 25. The sequel to “Inside Out” is the highest-grossing animated film of all time, the fastest animated film to reach $1 billion globally, and is currently the 8th highest grossing film in global box office history.

News Nation anchor Leland Vittert will sit down with newsman Bill O’Reilly to speak about his new book, the election and more during its special – “Bill O’Reilly’s Confronting the Presidents: America’s Best and Worst” – on Sunday, September 15 at 9p.

STREAMING

Pluto TV launched four new FAST channels as part of its fifth anniversary in the Spanish-language network space. Among the new networks that debuted September 12 are: Pluto TV Novelas, La Familia del Barrio, Sala de Emergencias: Historias Inéditas (Untold Stories of the ER) and Acapulco Shore.

FreeWheel served a record number of ads and programmatic impressions during the live 2024 Paris Olympics, enabling parent NBCUniversal to further open inventory to new advertisers, with an increase in the number of advertisers participating by 90%. FreeWheel, NBCU’s digital ad insertion and programmatic platform for the 2024 Olympics, was responsible for enabling programmatic access to advertisers while delivering on all of NBCU’s direct sold and sponsorship ad commitments. According to NBCU, the 2024 Olympics drove record ad revenue for the company and reached a daily average of 30.4 million viewers, an increase of 82% compared to the Tokyo Olympics. Led by Peacock, 23.5 billion minutes of Paris Olympics Games coverage were streamed.

Streaming viewers are far from couch potatoes, with 61% venturing outside to watch at least two movies in actual movie theaters over the past six months, and 71% saying they have seen at least one movie in a theater during the same time frame, according to a new study by Roku and National Research Group. About 32% of high-frequency streamers – those that watch at least 20 hours of streaming content per week – say they go to the theater on a monthly basis, compared to 27% of low-frequency streamers (10 hours or less of streaming content per week).

“Dragon Ball DAIMAwill be available to stream with subtitles on Crunchyroll starting Friday, October 11, followed by new weekly subtitled episodes simulcast with the Japanese TV broadcast.

Streaming service TCLtv+ has extended its partnership with branded content studio and digital syndicator Best Ever Channels and its original comedy FAST channel, WITZ Comedy-TV for its second original comedy special, “Bret Ernst: Uncaged.” The special, which debuted September 12, will be available exclusively on AVOD for 30 days before premiering on WITZ Comedy-TV on the service..

Curiosity Inc. FAST channel Curiosity Now is available on Samsung TV Plus in English in Great Britain, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and The Netherlands.

According to Stream Hatchet, Roblox live-stream viewership reached 19.5 million hours watched in August, the second-highest month on record since October 2021.

TECH TALK

SPORTS UPDATE

Sports and News, two genres that command the bulk of live, linear viewing, are being increasingly consumed via streaming, according to a Q2 analysis by Inscape. In Q2 2024, over a quarter of live, linear viewing time was streamed, an increase of 10 percentage points in the last two years. Over 30% of sports viewing time was streamed during the quarter, up seven percentage points from Q2 2023, and streaming captured about 20% of news viewing time, up 5.5 percentage points year-over-year. For sports in particular, Inscape opines that the shift to streaming has created a fragmentation headache for viewers: With games now spread across traditional linear TV as well as various streaming platforms, figuring out where to watch a specific event is no easy feat.

SportsGrid FAST Channel and LatiNation Media have teamed up for production and strategic brand initiatives premiering with the weekly soccer program “Golazo Today.” The half-hour English-language series, hosted by sports anchor Francisco X. Rivera, will stream on SportsGrid every Friday, and original episodes will be simulcasted on LatiNation Media’s LATV broadcast channel and digital platforms this fall.

Allen Media Group announced P&G is the presenting sponsor of new programming and activations airing this season. The commercial campaign, which AMG produced, recognizes the importance of supporting HBCU schools and students to foster their success and continued growth.

Cineflix Rights and Sky UK have signed a deal for a new scripted television special “Wynonna Earp: Vengeance.”. The deal with Sky, which is already home to the four previous seasons of “Wynonna Earp,” was announced prior to the special’s launch on Tubi in the US+ territories, LATAM, Canada and Australia on September 13.

Silverlining Rights, along with eight international funding partners, have greenlit “The Sinking of a Superyacht: How Safe Is Your Voyage?”. The documentary explores the events which led to the recent tragic sinking of the superyacht Bayesian off the coast of Sicily.

German unscripted production company Tresor has signed an exclusive first-look deal with Yes Yes Media for non-scripted formats in Germany. The agreement gives Tresor, owned by Keshet International, an exclusive window on all new non-scripted formats developed by the Sister and Satisfaction Group-backed TV and tech entertainment production company.
