ESPN has begun a series of sweeping organizational changes that will elevate some top executives and see others part way with the sports programming giant. In a memo to employees, ESPN’s President of Content Burke Magnus outlined a new structure that will make ESPN “more strategic, collaborative and nimble.” Those changes include naming 37-year network veteran Mike McQuade EVP of Sports Production, followed by David Roberts as EVP and Executive Editor of Sports News and Entertainment. Magnus’ direct reports going forward will be Roberts, McQuade, Kaitee Daley (SVP, Digital, Social & Streaming Content), Freddy Rolon (Head of Global Sports & Talent Office), Brian Lockhart (SVP Original Content), Chris Calcinari (SVP Content Operations Group) and Nick Parsons (VP Content Business Operations).
HBO’s “Somebody Somewhere” will end with its upcoming third season, which kicks off October 27. The series, starring Bridget Everett and Jeff Hiller, centers around Sam Miller (Everett) who moves back to her Kansas hometown and joins a community of outsiders “who don’t fit in, but don’t give up,” per the show’s logline.
The Teamsters were back at the bargaining table Monday with Hollywood studios to hammer out a new three-year contract for casting professionals. Deadline notes it’s the first sit-down between the union and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers since casting assistants voted for representation from the union’s Local 399 and 817. Wage increases and protections are just some of the issues on the table. |

“The Good Wife” creators Robert King and Michelle King are developing another legal drama for CBS, tentatively titled “Cupertino.” The project is described as a “David vs. Goliath legal show set in Silicon Valley,” with the Kings writing the script. Executive producers include the Kings and Liz Glotzer for King Size Productions.

Matthew Fox (“Lost”) will star opposite Michelle Pfeiffer in “The Madison,” the latest entry in Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” universe. Fox joins Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, Beau Garrett and Amiah Miller. The follows a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.
Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”) is set to take a lead role in the new Peacock espionage thriller “Ponies.” The series is co-created by Susanna Fogel (“The Flight Attendant”) and David Iserson (“Mr. Robot”), with Clarke set to executive produce in addition to starring.
Season 4 of the historical docudrama series “Wild West Chronicles” will make its debut on INSP on Wednesday, September 4 at 10p. The series stars Jack Elliott as Bat Masterson.
Comedy Central will premiere “Everybody Still Hates Chris,” an animated series based on the UPN/CW sitcom “Everybody Hates Chris,” on Sunday, September 25. As with the live-action comedy, which ran from 2005-09, “Everybody Still Hates Chris” will feature Rock narrating stories from his life growing up in Brooklyn. .
“The Librarians,” spinoff “The Librarians: The Next Chapter” will return to the franchise’s original broadcaster, TNT, for its 2025 premiere. The new series, which had been slated to air on The CW, has a two season order.
Great American Family and North Shore Animal League America announced the network’s 3rd annual “Great American Rescue Bowl” will take the field on Super Bowl Sunday, February 9 from 12p-2p.
Amazon Prime Video has picked up eight episodes of a new reality show from former “What Not to Wear” hosts Stacy London and Clinton Kelly – “Wear Whatever the F You Want.” This will mark the first time London and Kelly have hosted a show together in over a decade. “What Not to Wear” ran from 2003-13 on TLC, offering fashion advice and makeovers. The duo had a falling out after the show ended but made up for a live tour in 2023 and now, the new series.

Paramount Pictures’ “A Quiet Place: Day One,” will stream exclusively on Paramount+ August 27, in the U.S. and Canada. The film’s availability in additional international Paramount+ markets will be announced at a later date.
Lionsgate Television detective series “Borderline” will make its US premiere on The Roku Channel on September 1. The series follows a straitlaced detective and his foul-mouthed Republic of Ireland counterpart.

Apple has set September 9 as the date for a product launch event at its Cupertino HQ. The lineup will reportedly include the iPhone 16, with a new button for taking pictures, and support for AI features in Apple Intelligence.
Following last week’s Democratic convention, Democrats have secured $296 million in future ad inventory while Republicans have secured $132 million, according to ad intelligence firm AdImpact. On average, Democrats have booked $27.6 million per week in presidential spending between Labor Day and election day, compared to $10.1 million for Republicans. According to AdImpact: Democrats have outspent Republicans in every battleground state, with Pennsylvania seeing the most spending overall, where they have spent $99.4 million vs. $89.4 million by Republicans; Future Forward, a Democratic PAC, is the top spending advertiser by total spending and future reservations, with $70.4 million in aired spending and $158.1 million in future reservations; and Outside groups have placed 64% of Presidential ad spending and reservations since Super Tuesday.
Circana has entered into definitive agreements to acquire NCSolutions, the joint venture between Nielsen and Catalina that aims to improve advertising effectiveness, and Nielsen’s Marketing Mix Modeling (MMM) business. The two acquisitions will allow Circana to expand its media measurement capabilities while also increasing its marketing mix modeling and unified measurement solutions and footprint. Both businesses eventually will be integrated into Circana’s Media team, which works with advertisers and their agencies to plan, target, activate, measure, and optimize media spend. The transactions are expected to close during the fourth quarter of 2024, subject to regulatory approvals and the completion of any required information and consultation obligations, including any works councils’ processes. |
