Google violated antitrust laws by maintaining a monopoly on online search and general text adverting, ruled a federal judge. The Justice Department and states had sued Google, accusing it of illegally paying billions of dollars to be the automatic search engine on smartphones and web browsers. “Google is a monopolist, and it has acted as one to maintain its monopoly,” said Judge Amit P. Mehta in his ruling.
NewsNet, the 24-hour news channel available on broadcast networks and streaming services, has shut down after two years. “We believed people would want to watch a clean, non-bias news network, but we were wrong,” said Manoj Bhargava, owner of parent company Bridge Media, in a statement. “Without a large audience, we just couldn’t continue to lose money. We hired the best people and talent, and we appreciate their hard work and effort. But we just couldn’t continue.”
Smart TVs significantly impact how viewers are leaning into streaming services and other entertainment apps, according to Hub’s “Evolution of the TV Set” study. Key findings include:
· In 2024, 60% of respondents’ “most-used” TV sets are connected to a streaming platform, up by half since 2020.
· Smart TV operating systems are exerting more and more influence over what people watch – 38% percent of respondents said the first thing they see when they turn on their TV is the apps installed on the home screen of their smart TV.
· 51% of respondents say that they installed a new TV app recommended by their smart TV operating system when they set up their TV for the first time.
· 47% said that once their TV was set up, they rarely or never add more apps.
HBO’s “House of Dragon” will end with season four, and start pre-production of season three in the fall, said showrunner Ryan Condal during a press call. The “Game of Thrones” prequel’s season two finale aired Sunday.
Family Broadcasting has launched Univision on its primary signal of WHMB TV-40 in Indianapolis, Indiana, and WHME TV-46 in South Bend, Indiana. “This affiliation is an excellent addition to our portfolio of family-friendly networks and stations, and we’re very excited about this partnership and expanding our reach to new audiences,” said FBC CEO Drew Sumrall. |

Apple TV+’s “Shrinking” is back for season two on Wednesday, October 16. The comedy stars Jason Segel as a grieving therapist who starts to break the rules and tell his clients what he really thinks.
Season three of “The Real Murders of Atlanta” kicks off Saturday, August 17 at 9p on Oxygen. The true crime series reached 9.5 million viewers across platforms during its sophomore run.
Part two of the fourth and final season of Starz drama “Power Book II: Ghost” premieres Friday, September 6 at 8p.
“Kindergarten: The Musical” makes its debut on Disney Jr. on Tuesday, September 3 at 8a. The animated series follows a 5-year-old and her friends navigating starting school.
“The Ricky Cobb Show” will debut on sports platform OutKick on Monday, August 12 at 11a. Cobb, the personality behind @Super70sSports, will host the daily show.
ABC’s upcoming reimagining of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” has two new designers to assist the building team: Wendell Holland, the season 36 winner of “Survivor” and a designer who has appeared on HGTV series, and Arianne Bellizaire, the owner of a Baton Rouge design firm. The series, which originally ran on ABC from 2004 to 2012, is set to return in 2025.

Elon Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI is back on. Musk withdrew a lawsuit against the company in June, but has filed a new suit alleging fraud and breach of contract. Musk says he invested $45 million in OpenAI when it was pitched as a nonprofit venture to safely develop AI, and objects to the company’s pivot to a for-profit model that includes a partnership with Microsoft. Musk is seeking a court order to invalidate OpenAI’s license with Microsoft and unspecified damages in a jury trial.
Disney+ has launched the first National Geographic immersive experience in Apple Vision Pro, and added four additional Marvel 3D films. Subscribers will be able to access the new immersive environment from Nat Geo with the Disney+ app on Apple Vision Pro, transporting them to Iceland’s Thingvellir National Park. Marvel films now available include “Avengers,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Ant-Man” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp.”

MSNBC has acquired documentary “From Russie with Lev,” focused on Ukrainian operative Lev Parnas, from Rachel Maddow’s Surprise Inside. The film will debut at the “MSNBC Live: Democracy 2024” conference on September 7, have a limited release in arthouse theaters and then air on MNBC in late September.
Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” will broadcast from Miami with five shows across two days on Thursday, November 21 and Friday, ahead of Bravo Fest Miami on Saturday, November 23.

Nine days into the Paris Olympics, the Games were scoring 32.6 million average viewers, 77% higher than the 2021 Tokyo Summer Olympics, according to the NBCUniversal Total Audience Delivery measure. The US Men’s basketball team’s win over Puerto Rico on Saturday delivered 13 million viewers, coming from a live airing on NBC/Peacock combined with an encore airing on USA Network and Peacock.
