An increasing number of TV viewers are accepting advertising in streaming video, according to Hub Entertainment Research’s latest “TV Advertising: Fact vs. Fiction” survey. Key findings include:
· 66% of TV viewers would prefer watching ads if it saves on subscription costs, up from 58% three years ago.
· The number of consumers saying they can’t tolerate ads has declined from 17% three years ago to 12% in June 2024.
· Nearly eight in ten viewers agree there are “big differences” in the amount of advertising presented on competing TV services, with 53% of those surveyed saying AVODs provide a little or a lot better ad experiences than FAST (39%) and VMVPD (42%) subscribers.
· The proportion of consumers saying they watch an ad-free SVOD fell since December from 84% to 58%, coinciding with the launch of advertising as the default on Amazon Prime Video.
“Over the past few years, the video ecosystem has seen fundamental change, with nearly all of the formerly ad-free streamers adding a lower cost ad-supported tier,” said Mark Loughney, Hub Senior Consultant. “Consumers have responded not by rejecting advertising or canceling subscriptions, but embracing the opportunity to save on their monthly subscriptions. By putting forth an overt offer of lower fees in exchange for watching a reasonable number of ads, the streaming services have given consumers a better value proposition.”
The top-performing US brands on TikTok were shared in a new joint report with CreatorIQ, leveraging CreatorIQ’s Earned Media Value (EMV) metric to measure and identify the brands generating the most conversation on the platform. Leading the pack in EMV were Amazon (1.03B), NBA (894.63M), NFL (688.19M), Sephora (468.83M), Fortnite (360.15M), Barbie (337.19M), Target (330.19M), Bloom Nutrition (288.17M), Walmart (279.41M) and Apple (210.11M). The report also includes data from TikTok highlighting the strategies and insights that drove brand success on the platform, including:
· Engagement Drives EMV: The top brands don’t just focus on follower count—they develop long-term partnerships with authentic creators who have a track record of engaging the right audiences.
· Higher Post Volume Increases Value: The more consistent a creator is with posting about a brand, the more authentic the relationship is perceived by audiences.
· While Beauty captures nearly a third of the TikTok Top 100, other industries like sports, retail, media, food & beverage, and gaming are increasing their presence among heavy-hitters.

New Hulu docuseries “The Secret Lives of Mormon Lives” drops Friday, September 6. The eight-parter follows a group of Mormon mom influencers who get caught in a swinging sex scandal.
Fuse Media shared the lineup for season two of “Like a Girl,” premiering Wednesday, August 21 at 9p. Hosted by MJ Acosta-Ruiz and Joy Taylor, the six-episode season features Diana Flores, Lucero Acosta and Melissa Amaya, Sydney Leroux, Ali Riley and Kennedy Fuller, Taylor Townsend, Flau’jae Johnson and Emma Malabuyuo.
“Taken Together: Who Killed Lyric and Elizabeth?” premieres Thursday, August on Max. The three-part docuseries from Investigation Discovery delves into the 2012 double abduction of two cousins, 10-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins, in Evansdale, Iowa.
Another true crime docuseries, “Face to Face with Scott Peterson,” premieres Tuesday, August 20 on Peacock. Peterson was found guilty of murdering his pregnant wife, Laci Peterson, in 2004.
Phaedra Parks is returning to Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” for season 16, after a six-season break. Parks is also a cast member on Bravo reality show “Married to Medicine.”
MHz Choice has acquired “Miss Merkel,” two 90-minute tongue-in-cheek German mysteries from Fremantle, as an exclusive for the US set to premiere Tuesday, October 22. Based on the books by David Safier, the series imagines former German chancellor Angela Merkel leaving politics behind and moving to a small town, where she discovers a new calling as an amateur detective.
Season three of “Under the Vines” premieres on Acorn TV on Monday, August 19, with episodes dropping weekly.

Programmatic media partner MiQ announced plans to acquire Pathlabs. Through its Media Execution Partner (MEP) model, Pathlabs serves as an agency extension, managing the planning and reporting of performance-based, paid advertising campaigns.
LinkedIn agreed to pay $6.625 million to settle a proposed class action lawsuit accusing the Microsoft unit of overcharging advertisers by inflating how many people watched video ads on its platform. LinkedIn denied wrongdoing, and agreed to use reasonable efforts for two years to hire an outside auditor to review its ad metrics. If approved, the settlement fund will be distributed to US advertisers that purchased ads on LinkedIn between January 1, 2015 and May 31, 2023.
