Warner Bros. Discovery is suing the NBA to keep TBS basketball rights. WBD had exercised its right to match the reported $1.8 billion offer the league had accepted from Amazon for games in the 2025-26 through 2035-36 seasons, but the NBA asserted WBD’s offer failed to match the terms of Amazon’s. The lawsuit accuses the NBA of being in breach of contract. “Given the NBA’s unjustified rejection of our matching of a third-party offer, we have taken legal action to enforce our rights,” said a statement from TBS. “We strongly believe this is not just our contractual right, but also in the best interest of fans who want to keep watching our industry-leading NBA content with the choice and flexibility we offer them through our widely distributed WBD video-first distribution platforms – including TNT and Max.” WBD holds basketball rights through the 2024-25 season.

NBA Hall of Famer and co-host of “Inside the NBA” Charles Barkley didn’t mince words about the hoops hoopla. “Clearly the NBA has wanted to break up with us from the beginning,” posted Barkley on social media. “I’m not sure TNT ever had a chance.” What says the NBA? “Warner Bros. Discovery’s claims are without merit and our lawyers will address them,” stated league spokesperson Mike Bass.

ABC News shared the qualification requirements for the 2024 election presidential debate planned for Tuesday, September 10. Participants must meet the requirements outlined in the US Constitution to serve as president and must have filed a Statement of Candidacy with the Federal Election Commission; must appear on a sufficient number of state ballots to attain a majority (270) of electoral votes in the presidential election by September 3; agree to accept the ABC News rules and format; and reach at least 15% support in four separate national polls. While Kamala Harris has agreed to the ABC News debate, Donald Trump said last week that he won’t consider participating in a debate until the Democratic Party formally chooses a nominee.

The new seasons of CBS dramas “Tracker” and “The Equalizer,” originally set to debut Sunday, October 27, have been moved to the network’s premiere week. The shows will air at 8p and 9:30p, respectively, with “The Equalizer” shifting to its regular 9p time period on November 3.

Fox has renewed the animated comedy “Krapopolis” for a fourth season. The news was announced by series creator Dan Harmon during Fox’s Animation Domination panel at San Diego Comic-Con. “For all our ‘Krap-‘devotees, there was no better place to decree another season of ‘Krapopolis’ than the annual San Diego Comic-Con fan fest and no one better to deliver the proclamation than our brilliant creator and executive producer, Dan Harmon,” said Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network. “Dan and his team have created something special with this series, and now that Season Four is etched in stone, we’ll be keeping those once-in-a-millennia laughs rolling.”

Concern about disinformation this election cycle has GenZ increasingly turning to traditional new outlets, according to Comscore report, “Will GenZ Turn Out To Vote in 2024.” The study found that GenZ audiences on the Top 50 news platforms increased by 26% from June of 2023 to February 2024, as they became aware that social media is rife with disinformation. Research also showed that there is a halo effect for ads on traditional news, providing higher levels of audience attention and conversation. “Those seeking to reach and persuade prospective GenZ voters during the 2024 election cycle ought to take heed and seriously consider reliable news as a key platform for their outreach and messaging efforts, because that outreach can benefit from the aura of reliability placed in responsible news organizations by their audiences,” concludes the report.

A strike was dodged when member locals of Hollywood Basic Crafts agreed to a tentative new contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers three days before the July 31 deadline. “After a long last 48-hours, we are proud to report that ALL Hollywood Basic Crafts Locals have reached a tentative agreement with the AMPTP late this evening,” said Teamsters Local 399 in a statement on Saturday.

Havas North America reported a revenue decline of 6.4% for the first half. Europe was up 3.8%, Latin America revenue rose 8.8%, and Asia-Pacific inched up 0.5%. Last month, Havas announced it is implementing a new plan, “Converged,” that includes investment in data, tech and AI over the next four years, with a group-wide operating system.

Michael C. Hall will return as Dexter Morgan in Paramount+ with Showtime spinoff “Dexter: Resurrection,” set in the present day, as well narrate and serve as the inner voice of a young Dexter in the previously announced origin story “”Dexter: Original Sin.” “While ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ will appeal to the tens of millions of longtime fans, ‘Dexter: Original Sin’ will introduce a whole new generation of viewers into this iconic series by starting from the beginning,” said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. “Original Sin” is slated to premiere in December, while “Resurrection” is expected to launch in summer 2024. “Dexter” aired on Showtime from 2006-13.

AMC’s “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” has been renewed for season three. The news was announced during a Comic-Con panel touting the spinoff’s upcoming second season, arriving Sunday, September 29 at 9p.

“Doctor Who” spinoff “The War Between The Lands And The Sea” was announced by Disney Branded Television and BBC at Comic-Con. Leading the five-part series are Russell Tovey (“Feud”) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (“Loki”), alongside returning “Doctor Who” cast members Jemma Redgrave (as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart) and Alexander Devrient (as Colonel Ibrahim). Filming on the series, produced by Bad Wolf with BBC Studios, begins next month.

Prime Video ordered a prequel to superhero series “The Boys.” Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash will reprise their roles in the spinoff, as well as executive produce.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

The season 12 guest stars on Hulu’s revival of animated series “Futurama” were revealed at Comic-Con over the weekend. Listen up for Danny Trejo, Renee Victor, Tom Kenny, Ana Artiz, Cara Delevingne, Tim Gunn, Bill Nye, LeVar Burton, and Neil deGrasse Tyson in the new season, launching today.

CBS also announced upcoming guest stars at Comic-Con. Season four of “Ghosts,” premiering Thursday, October 18, will include Mary Holland (“Big Door Prize”) and Dean Norris (“Breaking Bad”). Joining the cast are Robert Joy (“CSI: NY)” and Samantha Brown (“Y: The Last Man”).

Adult Swim’s adaptation of supernational horror manga “Uzumaki” debuts Saturday, September 28 at 12:30a during the network’s action/anime block Toonami, with new episodes airing weekly in Japanese with English subtitles.

Kento Kaku has been cast as Akira Nishikiyama, aka Nishiki, on Prime Video’sLike a Dragon: Yakuza.” The first three episodes of the TV adaptation of SEGA’s video game series launches Thursday, October 24.

Crime saga “The Penguin” debuts Thursday, September 19 at 9p on HBO. Colin Farrell reprises the role he played in the 2022 film “The Batman.” Farrell will again inhabit the Penguin suit in the upcoming film, “The Batman 2,” set for an October 2, 2026, release.

Meanwhile, Minnie Driver will voice a gender-changed version of The Penguin for Prime Video’s “Batman: Caped Crusader,” the animated series from J.J. Abrams. The show will be available to stream starting Thursday, August 1

Season five of BET+’s “Ruthless” premieres with two episodes on Thursday, August 8.

The fifth and final season of Paramount+’s “Star Trek: Lower Decks” kicks off Thursday, October 24. New episodes of the 10-episode season will drop every Thursday leading up to the series finale on December 19.

Paramount+ also shared news about “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy,” which begins production next month. Onboard for season one are Tig Notaro, Mary Wiseman and Oded Fehr from “Star Trek: Discovery,” and Robert Picardo (“Star Trek: Voyager”).

Apple TV+ sci-fi series “Silo” returns for season two on Friday, November 15, with new cast member Steve Zahn (“White Lotus”).

Joining the season two cast of AMC’s “Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches” are Callan McAuliffe (“The Duel”), Franka Potente (“The Bourne Identity”) and Ian Pirie (“Halo”).

Host Will Arnett returns alongside Brickmasters Amy Corbett and Jamie Berard as judges for the third installment of the holiday-themed “LEGO Masters: Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular,” airing this holiday season on Fox. Guest stars on the four episode, two-night event will include Sophia Bush (“One Tree Hill”), Holly Robinson Peete (“Queens Court”), Eric McCormack (“Will & Grace”) and Lil Rel Howery (“Get Out”).

A “Family Guy” Halloween special featuring Glen Powell (“Twisters”) and Derek Jacobi (“Gladiator”) premieres Monday, October 14 on Hulu.

Peacock will stream an extended cut of “The Fall Guy” starting Friday, August 30. The film, released in May, stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt.
