A week after reports surfaced that a deal was imminent, Paramount Global chair Shari Redstone still hasn’t signed off on a deal that would sell her media conglomerate to Skydance Media in a transaction estimated to be worth $8 billion. Redstone is reportedly balking at the deal as counter offers from other media companies have come in. The Hollywood Reporter speculated that talk that Warner Bros. Discovery would be interested in Paramount’s CBS network and stations has prompted Redstone to consider selling assets piecemeal, while The Wall Street Journal reported that former media executive Edgar Bronfman Jr., was teaming with private equity on a $2.5 billion bid for Redstone-controlled National Amusements, Paramount’s largest shareholder.
General Motors is on track toward reaching its goal of having 8% of its advertising placed with Black-owned media by 2025. Citing executives attending the Black Owned Media Equity and Sustainability Institute’s Black Owned Media Weekend in Detroit, Media Post said GM s made “significant changes” in 2021 to the way it partners with diverse media, including launching a diverse incubator fund with $50 million over 10 years “to support and scale diverse marketing companies.” General Motors was one of the sponsors of the weekend as were Danone, Discover and media companies Nativo, My Code and She Media.
Spectrum News NY1 said Shannan Ferry will take over “News All Day,” NY1’s weekday afternoon newscast airing from 12p – 4p. Ferry previously co-anchored the weekend morning program “Weekends on 1” alongside Rocco Vertuccio and has filled in behind the anchor desk throughout the daytime, including many appearances on the weekday morning broadcast “Mornings on 1.” With Ferry’s move to weekdays, Vertuccio will now be the sole anchor of “Weekends on 1.” The news comes as Ferry celebrates 10 years with the News 1 team this year. |

Soho Studios and Two Rivers Media will produce documentary series “Travels with Agatha with Sir David Suchet.” Channel 4 in the UK, BritBox in North America and the Nordics and SBS in Australia have acquired the series through deals brokered by Abacus Media Rights who are also handling distribution for rest of world. In the 1920s, author Agatha Christie traveled on an expedition to five areas – Canada, Hawaii, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia – which the series will feature separately in each episode. Sachet played “Poirot” for 13 seasons on ITV. Filming will begin in the summer 2024, with delivery at the end of the year.
E! has greenlit “Denise Richards and the Wild Things,” a half-hour comedic docuseries starring and executive produced by Richards. The series will premiere in 2025. Richards has been featured on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” and with her family starred in a reality show for E! more than 15 years ago. “My family and I are thrilled to return home to E! Sami and Lola were just 3 and 4 years old when we first shared our story and now we’ve come full circle,” Richards said. “Denise Richards and the Wild Things” is executive produced by Alex Baskin, Joe Kingsley and Jeff Festa for 32 Flavors, Denise Richards for Smoke and Mirrors Entertainment, and Adam Griffin.

TLC premieres “Forbidden Love,” on July 21 at 10p, following four couples deeply in love who must come to terms with the one major hurdle complicating their relationships — religion. Hailing from different faiths, one partner from each couple is converting or has decided to relinquish their family-of-origin and culture entirely.

Paramount+ two-part docuseries “Melissa Etheridge: I’m Not Broken” will premiere on July 9. Directed by Brian Morrow and Amy Scott, the series centers on the Grammy-Award-winning rock star and activist who penned an original song inspired by letters she received from incarcerated women in her Kansas hometown.
Modern-day supernatural drama, “Domino Day: Lone Witch,” will premiere exclusively in the US on June 27 with a double-episode debut on Sundance Now and AMC+; with additional episodes airing weekly on both platforms. Set and filmed in Manchester, England, the six-part series stars BAFTA-nominated Siena Kelly (“Adult Material,” “Hit & Run”) as Domino Day.

As the premiere of feature-length documentary “Brats” nears on June 13, Hulu said it is giving its subscribers a chance to see the iconic 1980s films that made the “Brat Pack” – subjects of the documentary – famous. Streaming service Viaplay released its July slate, with exclusive US/CA premieres of a dystopian drama series, a true crime docuseries involving a Swedish serial killer’s crimes in America, crime novel adaptations, and sports documentaries. Norwegian dystopian drama “The Fortress,” will debut on July 16, followed by true crime docuseries “Under the Radar: Secrets of a Swedish Serial Killer,” on July 30. Season 2 of crime novel adaptation “Detective Maria Kallo” will return with 10 new episodes beginning July 2, and sports documentaries “1992: The Top Game,” about Poland’s underdog Olympic soccer team, and “Underdogs: The Silver Medalists in Egypt,” chronicling Sweden’s men’s national handball team, will be available on July 23.
Free streaming service Pluto TV has officially launched a 24/7 “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” channel both live and On Demand. The channel will feature more than 390 episodes spanning from the series’ debut year in 1968 to 2001.

Apple kicked off its Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday by unveiling Apple Intelligence, a system-wide update to software for its devices that it said could offer users a personalized version of Generative AI. Also announced at WWDC was an updated ChatGPT-version of Siri that can better understand natural language and take action inside apps. Only iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, as well as iPads and Macs with M1 chips or newer will be able to run the new AI features.
Yahoo Advertising released the latest update to its AI engine Yahoo Blueprint – Yahoo Blueprint Performance – which powers a suite of features that guide performance throughout the Yahoo DSP. This enhancement redefines how advertisers manage and optimize digital campaigns by leveraging AI technology to boost efficiency and effectiveness, while maintaining control. Yahoo Blueprint first debuted in late 2023 and capitalizes on more than 20 years of AI and machine learning development and proprietary data derived from 335M+ logged-in users globally.

Albertsons Media Collective, the retail media arm of Albertsons Cos. Inc., is partnering with Rokt. Under the new deal, brands that are not being sold already online by the company itself can reach and engage Albertsons’ e-commerce customers through offers and messages. The partnership extends across 11 of Albertsons’ portfolio brands, including Albertsons, Safeway, Acme Markets, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s Supermarkets, Carrs and Star Market.

NBCUniversal Local’s NBC-owned stations and NBC Sports Regional Networks will present a new season of the multiplatform podcast “My New Favorite Olympian” profiling Team USA athletes leading up to Paris 2024. The seven-part audio and video series, which begins June 12, is led by 12-time Olympic medalist swimmer Natalie Coughlin and Zena Keita, an NBC Sports Bay Area reporter, host and analyst.
Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers attracted 7.1 million viewers across North America on ABC, CBC, SN, and TVA Sports, a year-over-year increase of 43%, according to the National Hockey League. It was the most watched Stanley Cup Final Game 1 across North America since 2019.

DeAPlaneta Entertainment has purchased fantasy/adventure children’s animated series “Azuro & The Dragon Squad,” from French distributor Newen Connect. “Azuro & The Dragon Squad” is based on the best-selling 16-title “Azuro” book series, created by Laurent Souillé, Olivier Souillé and Jérémie Fleury and published in France by Editions Auzou.
All3Media International is bringing its global format “The Traitors” to Croatia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Prima Group has commissioned a first season of “The Traitors” for the Czech Republic, and the format has been licensed in Slovakia for TV JOJ. In Croatia, RTL Hrvatska has commissioned a first series and an additional territory in the region is soon to be announced. The deals follow recent launches of the format in Hungary and Poland. Vivid Goliath will “The Traitors” board game to Hungary and All3Media International has also signed a publishing deal with Penguin Random House Hungary.
Insight TV premiered its newest FAST channel – INTRAVEL – in the U.S. on Fubo on June 10. The launch marks the channel’s first appearance in North America.
UK-based distributor DCD Rights has sold several packages of unscripted programming to principal channels and broadcasters in the CEE region. Titles include “James Martin’s Spanish Adventure,” which has been picked up by AMC Networks Central & Northern Europe in Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Moldova and Romania, and by Polish broadcaster Canal+ Polska. Croatia’s national broadcaster HRT has bought several titles, including “James Martin’s American Adventure,” “A Cook Abroad,” “Cumbria: The Lakes & The Coast, Tiny Islands,” and “Treasures with Bettany Hughes.” HRT also picked up the live television special “Christmas at Graceland.” In Poland, MWE Networks has acquired “Aussie Gold Hunters” Series 4 and BBC Studios has picked up “Scottish Islands with Ben Fogle” Series 2.
