Warner Bros. Discovery is splitting into two publicly traded companies. The Streaming & Studios company (Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, DC Studios, HBO, and HBO Max) will be headed by David Zaslav, President and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, who will transition to President and CEO of Streaming & Studios. Global Networks (entertainment, sports and news television brands in the US and free-to-air channels across Europe, as well as digital products including Discovery+ and Bleacher Report B/R) will be overseen by Gunnar Wiedenfels, CFO of Warner Bros. Discovery, who will serve as President and CEO. Both execs will continue in their present roles at WBD until the separation.
“This separation will invigorate each company by enabling them to leverage their strengths and specific financial profiles. This will also allow each company to pursue important investment opportunities and drive shareholder value,” said Wiedenfels. WBD makes splitting a trend – Lionsgate separated from Starz in May, and Comcast is preparing to spin off most of its cable networks into a new company, Versant.
CBS’ airing of the Tony Awards delivered 4.85 million viewers, the ceremony’s largest broadcast audience since 2019, up +38% year-over-year, and its largest live streaming audience ever on Paramount+, up +208%, according to Nielsen fast national data. |
