After months of negotiations with several different parties, Paramount Global has reportedly agreed to be acquired by Skydance in a deal valued at $8 billion, according to CNBC’s David Faber. The transaction is awaiting approval from Paramount chair and controlling shareholder Shari Redstone and would give Skydance and its backers RedBird Capital and KKR two-thirds of the media giant. The deal will not require approval from shareholders. Paramount’s annual shareholders’ meeting is scheduled for today (Tuesday) and a formal announcement is expected shortly.
Altice USA said Monday that a4 Media, its advanced advertising and data business, will rebrand to Optimum Media to further unify with the company’s Optimum connectivity brand. Altice USA President of News, Advertising and Programming Keith Bowen said the move “will help elevate awareness, accelerate partnership opportunities for businesses looking for both advertising and connectivity services…” Optimum Media reaches every DMA in the U.S., including in the 21-states where Optimum delivers broadband, mobile, video, home phone, and managed business services solutions to approximately 4.7 million customers. The unit specializes in audience reach by using data-backed solutions, location, programming, and more to drive engagement, increase brand visibility, and maximize return on investment for its clients.
Sinclair will partner with Feeding America to launch “Sinclair Cares: Summer Hunger Relief,” an awareness and fundraising campaign to help provide 1 million meals to children and families across the U.S. through June and July. Viewers can help provide meal access to children and families in their community through financial contributions, which will go directly to the local Feeding America food bank. Sinclair will donate $25,000 to the project, which will also be supported through public service campaigns across its owned and/or operated television stations, Tennis Channel, and multicast networks Comet, CHARGE!, TBD, and The Nest. Sinclair will produce content to air throughout the campaign and will also produce a 30-minute special – airing on Sinclair stations June 29 and 30, with an extended version streamed on their websites June 27 – spotlighting ways to help children stay nourished and healthy throughout the summer. The Sinclair Cares: Summer Hunger Relief donation portal will be open from June to July, with Sinclair hosting a concentrated day of giving on June 20.
Fox and Jo Jo Siwa celebrate Pride Month with a video clip depicting the “So You Think You Can Dance” judge thanking friends, family and fans around the world for their love and support after publicly coming out as gay. Siwa, who also is a recruit on “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,” recounted the moment she realized she was queer and how having a supportive family helped her navigate her coming out story. Although she said the decision did affect her career, the positives far outweighed the negatives. She says, “You’re not alone. I promise, the world, when you can see a rainbow, is a beautiful place.”
OUTFRONT Media Inc. has launched the “Protect Our Pride” campaign in partnership with GLAAD to celebrate Pride during June. Following last year’s “15 Seconds of Fabulous” campaign, this year’s initiative, designed by GLAAD and evolving from an earlier campaign this year, spotlights the LGBTQ community with a broader reach and enhanced features. For a $25 donation to GLAAD, individuals can have their photo, name, and one of six personalized messages displayed on digital billboards nationwide: “Protect All Love,” “Protect My Love,” “Protect My Family,” “Protect My Friend,” and “Protect My Joy.” Additionally, LGBTQ-owned businesses can opt for the “Protect My Business” message with a $250 donation.
Singer Cindy Lauper said she is retiring from the road and has set her farewell tour ahead of the debut of her documentary, “Let the Canary Sing,” today (Tuesday) on Paramount+. The 23-city “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” tour, touted as her first major road trip in a decade, begins October 18 in Montreal and ends December 5 at Chicago’s United Center.
Taraji P. Henson will return for her third time as host of the 2024 BET Awards, airing live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on June 30 at 8p on BET. Eight-time Grammy winner Usher, nominated for four BET awards including Album of the Year, will receive the Lifetime Achievement BET Award. Telemundo has begun production for “Sed de Venganza,” starring Danilo Carrera (“Relaciones Peligrosas”), Isabella Castillo (“El Señor de los Cielos,” “Malverde: El Santo Patrón”) and Alexa Martin (“Falsa Identidad,” “La Doña 2”). The cast also features Saul Lisazo, Diego Olivera, Carlos Torres and Sebastián Carvajal. “Sed de Venganza” is the eighth series to be filmed at Telemundo Center’s studios in Miami, Florida.
Actor Colman Domingo has been added to the cast of upcoming Netflix series “The Four Seasons,” joining Steve Carell and Tina Fey. The series, based on the 1981 film starring Alan Alda and Carol Burnett, was first announced in January with an eight-episode order and is scheduled to begin production later this year. Domingo was nominated for an Academy Award for “Rustin” and received a 2022 Emmy award for best guest actor in a drama series for his work on HBO’s “Euphoria.” He was twice nominated for Tony Awards and is best known for his starring role on “Fear of the Walking Dead.”

The CW has renewed “All American” for a shortened seventh season (13 episodes) in 2025. According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” a decision on currently-airing spinoff “All American: Homecoming” has not yet been determined. Earlier the CW said it had renewed “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” for its 11th season and greenlit season four of drama “The Chosen.”
PBS unveiled its schedule for series premieres in June and July, starting with the Season 3 debut of “Professor T” on June 16 at 8p, and followed by season 9 of “Grantchester on Masterpiece” (June 16 at 9p), season 2 of “D.I. Imagicomm Entertainment has launched the Cowboy Way channel on LG Channels, which is available on LG Smart TVs, featuring a variety of original programming, including reality series, scripted series, and popular movies. Highlights include the historical docuseries “Wild West Chronicles” and “Into the Wild Frontier;” and films like “Blue Ridge,” “The Legend of 5 Mile Cave,” and “Far Haven.”
Spectrum will mark Pride Month throughout June with an On Demand collection of movies and TV shows available for rent and to watch for free celebrating the LGBTQ community. On demand pay movie titles for customers with Spectrum TV include “Boys Don’t Cry;” “Carol;” “Moonlight;” and “Call Me By Your Name.” Additional Pride Month movies for rent include “Kinky Boots;” “Love Lies Bleeding;” “Philadelphia;” “The Perks of Being a Wallflower;” and “The Wedding Banquet.” Depending on their level of Spectrum TV service, customers can access scripted and reality series for no additional cost under the category LGBTQ in the On Demand portal, including “I Am Jazz,”; “Family Karma,”; and “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Scripted programming in the portal includes “Interview With A Vampire,” and “Schitt’s Creek.”
Prime Video announced the revival of the epic competition series, “American Gladiators,” produced by MGM Alternative and Amazon MGM Studios. The series is set to premiere on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The show will include classics like “Gauntlet,” “Hang Tough,” and the ultimate challenge “The Eliminator,” as well as some brand-new challenges. “American Gladiators” first premiered in the U.S. in 1989 and ran until 1996. A UK version — “Gladiators UK” – debuted January 13, averaged 8.3 million viewers over the season.
FOX News Channel’s anchor and executive editor of “The Story,” Martha MacCallum, will host her 3p news program from Normandy, France next week in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day. From June 4-6, MacCallum will broadcast live from the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, speaking with World War II veterans and a bipartisan delegation of United States Senators taking part in the ceremony about the milestone.

Spotify raised prices for its streaming music service for the second time this year on Monday. The company said that over the next month, current subscribers will receive an email explaining what the update means for their subscription. For new subscribers in the U.S., prices will rise immediately, with charges for an individual subscription growing from $10.99 to $11.99. For Duo plan subscribers the monthly charge will rise by $2 to $16.99, while prices for the Family plan will increase $3 to $19.99. The Student plan remains the same at $5.99 per month. Spotify last raised prices in July.
“Stories From My Gay Grandparents,” a new series created by and starring Scott Farley (“The Handmaid’s Tale,” “The Moblees”) and Perrie Voss (“Avocado Toast the series,” “The Boys”), will begin streaming on KindaTV on June 23. Directed by J Stevens (“Sort Of,” “Astrid & Lilly Save the World”), and produced by Andrew McCann Smith of Play Media Inc., the series will make its international debut at the international LGBTQ+ film festival, Frameline, running from June 19-29 in San Francisco, ahead of its streaming premiere.
This month viewers can enjoy more free streaming channels on Samsung TV Plus, Samsung’s Free TV and on-demand ad-supported app, already installed on Samsung Smart TVs and available on Galaxy devices, Smart Monitors, Family Hub refrigerators and the web. New channels include: sports channels the Formula 1 Channel, PGA Tour and NBC Sports; and Kids networks Blippi and BBC Kids. Other available channels are “American Crimes,” “OUTtv Proud” and “Ocean Vibes.” New movies available during the month include “Letters to Juliet,” “Gladiator,” and “The Groomsmen.”

According to a Forbes Advisory study, 94% of Baby Boomers and just 64% of Gen Z use search engines first to look for brand names. Mobile device use is the biggest culprit, with those who primarily access the internet through cellphones showing a slight decrease in using search engines to discover brands, down from the average to 79%. Consumers are using social media more to find brands, Forbes said, with 10% of people beginning their brand searches that way and refining their hunt on search engines later. That practice is more prevalent with younger adults — 21% for Gen Z and 14% for millennials. About 4% of all respondents, including 11% of Gen Z, exclusively use social media platforms to discover and interact with brands.
According to TechCrunch, Instagram confirmed it is testing “unskippable” ads after several screenshots of the feature began circulating across the internet. The new ad breaks offer a countdown timer that stops users from browsing through additional content on the app until they view the ad. According to TechCrunch, the feature brings Instagram a step closer to rival YouTube, which requires users to view ads before and while watching videos. “We’re always testing formats that can drive value for advertisers,” a spokesperson for Instagram parent Meta told TechCrunch. “As we test and learn, we will provide updates should this test result in any formal product changes.” The new feature was spotted initially by Instagram app user Dan Levy, who posted a screenshot of the test to his account on X.
RETAIL MEDIA
According to eMarketer, in-store retail media ad spend in the U.S. is expected to pass $1 billion by 2028, but it’s still less than 1% of the total omnichannel retail media investment. In its latest report “In-Store Media 2024,” eMarketer adds that 99% of retail media ad dollars will go to online channels this year, even though 80% of the $7 trillion in U.S. retail sales are expected to occur in physical stores this year. The researcher also expects in-store shopping to become more digital, which creates opportunities for integrating digital media, as use cases expanded for QR codes, digital payment options, and contactless pickup during the pandemic.

New York-based digital media company Generation Iron will debut its original documentary “Robby Robinson’s Blueprint,” chronicling the life story of the iconic bodybuilder, on June 28th on streaming platforms including Apple TV, Amazon Prime and Google Play in all English-speaking territories. Robinson was an integral part of the sport’s golden age, being one of the first Black men to be featured on the covers of major bodybuilding magazines, starring in the ground-breaking bodybuilding movie “Pumping Iron” and using his platform to advocate for equal rights in the sport.
HBO sports documentary “Here to Climb” from Red Bull Media House and directors Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg (HBO’s “My So-Called High School Rank,” “Marathon: The Patriots Day Bombing”), debuts June 18 at 9p on HBO and will be available to stream on Max. The documentary follows professional climber Sasha DiGiulian’s rise from child prodigy to a champion sport climber, as she takes her talents to the biggest walls on the planet with a series of bold, first-female ascents.
As the Boston Celtics advance to the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks, NBC Sports Boston will continue to bring fans comprehensive multi-platform coverage of the series, including live programming originating from both Boston and Dallas; live pregame, halftime, and postgame shows; daily preview, opinion, and analysis programs; in-depth online coverage from NBCSportsBoston.com; special podcast episodes; enhanced social media content; and more. The June 2 final of the 17th series of “Britain’s Got Talent” attracted ITV’s biggest overnight audience of the year – outside of the FA Cup – with an average audience of 5.2 million and a 39% share. At peak, 6.5 million viewers watched Sydnie Christmas named the winner, and the show had a 55% share of the 16-34 audience, with over half a million watching for the two and a half hours. On streaming service ITVX, the series has been streamed more than 17 million times, up by 2 million over last year, making “BGT” the highest rated across the weekend on any channel and ITV the most watched channel during primetime across the entire weekend.

Fox News Channel beat the competition during the key 4:45 to 6p time slot last Thursday for its coverage of former President Trump’s trial verdict. The announcement that former President Trump was found guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records broke at 4:48p, with FNC averaging 4.7 million viewers between 4:45p and 6p, according to Nielsen measurement. MSNBC and CNN were second and third with 3.8 million and 2.6 million viewers, between 5p and 6p, respectively. Overall, MSNBC had the best results between 5p and 11p, averaging 3.54 million viewers. Fox had 3.398 million and CNN had 1.745 million. MSNBC was also best with adults 25-54 at 450,000 viewers, flowed by Fox (439,000) and CNN (374,000.) During the 8p to 11p primetime slot, MSNBC finished first with 3.4 million viewers, followed by Fox at 3.1 million and CNN at 1.3 million. On broadcast TV, networks broke into their regularly scheduled programming with the Trump verdict news just before 5p, with ABC News attracting 3.3 million viewers for 102 minutes of coverage and CBS News with 2.5 million viewers for 71 minutes of coverage.
