Cynopsis 05/20/25: Netflix picks up “Peppa Pig” and “Sesame Street”

Wendy McMahon has resigned as President and CEO of CBS News and Stations. Her exit comes as Paramount prepares for its acquisition by Skydance, and is in talks to settle a $20 billion lawsuit from President Trump over a “60 Minutes” interview. “The past few months have been challenging,” McMahon said in a note to staff. “It’s become clear that the company and I do not agree on the path forward. It’s time for me to move on and for this organization to move forward with new leadership.” The exit follows “60 Minutes” executive producer Bill Owens’ departure last month.

“S.W.A.T.”, canceled after eight seasons on CBS, is getting a spinoff. Shemar Moore will reprise his role as Daniel “Hondo” Harrison on “S.W.A.T. Exiles,” from Sony Pictures Television. “My eight seasons on ‘S.W.A.T.’ have been epic and memorable,” said Moore. “We entertained the world, defied the odds, came back from the dead twice, and continued to woo fans and families worldwide.” SPT, which has ordered 10 episodes of the cop drama, will distribute the show globally.

“Sesame Street” and popular British kids show “Peppa Pig” have found a streaming home on Netflix. In addition to a reimagined 56th season of “Sesame Street,” Netflix will offer 90 hours of previous episodes. Under its deal with HBO Max, which ended in December, new episodes of “Sesame Street” ran first on the streamer, then on PBS months later. Now PBS stations and PBS KIDS will air new episodes on the same day they’re streamed on Netflix. “Peppa” fans can explore that preschool series through puzzles, mini-games, coloring books and more in an all-in-one app, along with new episodes of season seven. “Whether you love learning the letter of the day with Elmo or jumping in muddy puddles with Peppa, we have something for every kind of kid and every kind of family,” said the Netflix in a statement.

Syndicated talker “The Steve Wilkos Show” has been renewed for season 19. The daytime show, which airs in 87% of the country, is averaging 664,000 viewers, according to NBCUniversal Syndication Studios.

Ryan Murphy has another series in the works. “The Shards,” based on the Bret Easton Ellis thriller, is in early development at FX, reports Deadline, with Kaia Gerber (“Palm Royale”) set to star.

Cartoon Network and Max have greenlit a second season of animated fantasy series “Iyanu,” along with two feature films that will expand its universe. The Lion Forge Entertainment production is based on the graphic novel series Iyanu: Child of Wonder.

Studio 100 International has partnered with FXFX Studios to bring its IPs to user-generated content (UGC) gaming platforms. Kicking off the collaboration, the Maya the Bee brand will celebrate its 50th anniversary along with its debut on Roblox, part of Studio 100 International’s broader digital transformation strategy.

   NEW & RETURNING SERIES

“Project Runway” will make its Freeform debut on Thursday, July 31, with two episodes starting at 9p. Subsequent episodes will air weekly at 10p. The reality show premiered on Bravo in 2004 and ran on Lifetime from 2009-17.

Canadian thriller “Something Undone” makes its US premiere Tuesday, July 8 on MHz Choice.

Denmark dramedy “Chaos” premieres on Viaplay Thursday, May 22. The series is set at a morning show.

Magnite and Amazon Publisher Services are collaborating to unlock new streaming TV opportunities. Through a custom integration between APS’ Transparent Ad Marketplace and Magnite’s SpringServe, publishers can now access demand from Magnite on Fire TV devices, and Magnite gains more access to premium streaming inventory.

Audience data company Datonics has expanded its partnership with Madhive, the unified operating system for local media, to help advertisers more effectively target and reach audiences across local CTV. Buyers can now access over 1,000 Datonics audience segments directly within Madhive’s data marketplace, including niche personas, commerce behaviors, lifestyle interests, and more. to connect with the right consumers at the right time.”

XACTV Network, a video solution that uses machine learning to optimize efficient reach, announced an evolution of the platform that adds audience-based measurement and expanded AI capabilities.    COMING UP

“Love Me,” starring Kristen Stewart, starts streaming Monday, June 16 on Paramount+ with Showtime. The film was released in theaters in January.

The NHL’s 2025 Stanley Pup, the league’s second annual competition featuring rescue dogs, premieres on TruTV on Friday, June 6 at 7p. A second airing hits NHL Network on June 8 at 7p.

With access to the United States Coast Guard’s Marine Board of Investigation and never-before-seen video, Discovery special “Implosion: The Titanic Sub Disaster” uncovers the story of what caused the disaster and how it might have been prevented, on Wednesday, May 28 at 9p.

Animated film “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” drops Friday, June 27 on Max, before making its linear debut the following evening at 8p on HBO. The Porky Pig/Daffy Duck flick hit theaters in March.

The 2025 Billboard Latin Music Awards have been set for Thursday, October 23 on Telemundo and Peacock. The music special honors the most popular albums, songs, and performers in Latin music, as determined by the sales, streaming, radio airplay and social data that informs Billboard‘s weekly charts during a one-year period.

Sports and entertainment company Sporty Group has acquired Brazilian sports broadcasting platform Nosso Futebol. The deal follows the recent launch of SportyTV in South Africa.

Justin Connolly, President of Platform Distribution at Disney, has left the company. The move caught many in the industry by surprise, since Connolly renewed his contract with Disney earlier this year.
