   IN THE NEWS

YouTube’s Multiview feature, enabling viewers to see multiple channels at once, is expanding beyond sports programming. That’s one of the updates listed in a blog by Virah Mahesh, Senior Product Manager, timed to celebrate 20 years of the platform. Also of note: Ask Music, to “create your very own personalized radio station”; 4x playback speed; and an “approve content yourself” mode for parents.

Roku unveiled a new device lineup and software updates designed for streamers. New content discovery updates include a “Coming Soon to Theaters” row, personalized sports highlights, and more. Roku is also introducing two new streaming players, the Roku Streaming Stick and Roku Streaming Stick Plus, and bringing hardware innovations and under-the-hood enhancements across Roku-made TVs.

Hallmark Media is pulling its programming from Peacock at the end of the month. “Hallmark and Peacock have enjoyed a successful partnership since 2022,” read a statement from Hallmark. “As Hallmark has since launched its own standalone streaming service, Hallmark+, we evaluated how each of our services provides added value to our subscribers, and to that end, the decision was made to sunset Hallmark programming on Peacock.”

Snap is being sued by the state of Florida for allegedly violating a new social media law that prohibits platforms with “addictive features” from allowing anyone under 14 to create or maintain accounts. “Rather than obeying Florida law by removing 13-year-old users from the platform and seeking parental consent for 14- and 15-year-old users, Snap is actively deceiving Florida parents about the risks of allowing their teens to access this platform,” said Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier in a complaint filed in Santa Rosa County Circuit Court.

Meta has expanded its testing of ads on microblogging social media platform Threads, opening it up to all “eligible” advertisers globally. Businesses running Threads ads are able to access Meta’s inventory filter, which determines whether ads appear near offensive content, said Meta in a blog post. Ads will be delivered in select markets at launch and roll out to additional markets “as we continue to test and learn,” said Meta.

Chloe Arensberg has been promoted to Washington, DC Bureau Chief for NBC News. She replaces Ken Strickland, who will serve as SVP of NBC News editorial operations.

   PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

NBCUniversal Entertainment & Studios inked a multi-year partnership with Snoop Dogg and his Death Row Pictures for projects spanning film, television, sports and streaming. It’s not Snoop’s first time at the NBC table – he was a breakout star at the Paris Olympics, and has served as a coach on “The Voice,” a job he’ll return to for season 28. “Audiences around the world love Snoop and connect with his unparalleled showmanship and artistry,” said NBCUniversal Entertainment & Studios Chairman Donna Langley. “Those of us lucky enough to be in his orbit also know his incredible business acumen, endlessly creative spirit and the unapologetic authenticity that he brings to every project. There’s only one Snoop, and we’re so excited for him to join our unbelievable roster of creative partners.”

A series centered on Jim Jones, the cult leader responsible for the mass murder-suicide in 1978, is in development at HBO. Bill Hader and Daniel Zelman are co-writers and co-showrunners.

MGM+ has ordered anthology series “American Hostage” (w/t) from co-creator and executive producer Shawn Ryan (“The Night Agent”) and co-creator and executive producer Eileen Myers (“Big Love”). ABC has renewed “The Golden Bachelor” for a second season. The gray-haired Romeo this time comes in the form of Mel Owens, an NFL player-turned-lawyer. The inaugural season of the dating competition averaged 10.4 million viewers after the first 35 days across platforms.

Shudder announced a multiple project pickup deal with horror icons The Boulet Brothers. Dracmorda and Swanthula Boulet’s reality competition series “The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula has been renewed for a seventh season, and the show’s all-star spinoff format “The Boulet Brothers Dragula: Titans” has been renewed for season two. Shudder has also picked up a new holiday special, “The Boulet Brothers’ Holiday of Horrors,” featuring co-host David Dastmalchian.

   TECH

Sell-side advertising company Magnite introduced the next generation of its SpringServe video platform, a CTV/OTT solution combining its SpringServe ad server with the advanced programmatic capabilities of the Magnite Streaming SSP. Initial clients will include Disney Advertising, LG Ad Solutions, Paramount, Roku, Samsung, and Warner Bros. Discovery. “As the CTV space matures, there’s a significant opportunity to enhance the advertising process for media owners and buyers,” said Sean Buckley, President, Revenue at Magnite. “We’re building this next generation of SpringServe specifically to help our clients and partners stay ahead of these emerging opportunities. By unifying the programmatic layer as a complementary step in the buying process, not only does it give buyers greater transparency, predictability, and control over their ad placements, but it lays the foundation for more effective monetization and yield management for media owners.”

Experian and Media.net are collaborating to bring together two data sets: real-time contextual search intent and rich audience data. Unlike keyword-based contextual solutions, Media.net’s approach uses real-time search insights combined with full-funnel advertiser performance data to better understand audience intent. “By integrating Media.net’s search-driven intent signals with Experian’s audience intelligence, we’re delivering a unified targeting solution that combines precision and performance – empowering advertisers to reach the right audience at the right time in the right environment,” said Vaibhav Arya, CEO at Media.net.

Comcast Technology Solutions and AD-ID, a joint venture of the ANA and 4A’s founded to standardize how advertising assets are labeled, announced a strategic alliance to promote the adoption of industry standards in advertising data and operational workflows. “Given their exceptional reach across both media and advertising, we are thrilled to partner with Comcast Technology Solutions to help drive greater adoption of AD-ID across the industry,” said Nada Bradbury, CEO of AD-ID. “This alliance helps ensure that advertisers, publishers, and all stakeholders can benefit from the increased efficiency, transparency, and interoperability that standardized identifiers provide.”

EDO is launching Engaged Audience Planning, a new solution that seamlessly integrates to identify which TV programming is most likely to drive the specific outcomes advertisers care about, like search and web visits. “Marketers consistently tell us they want their Convergent TV investments to deliver on both brand and demand goals — and Engaged Audience Planning is designed to do just that,” said Kevin Krim, CEO, EDO. “By aligning EDO’s outcome measurement with whatever advanced audience marketers choose, we’re empowering advertisers to optimize for both reach and results within their existing planning workflows.”
